House of the Dragon: The Lord of the Tides (2022)
Give Paddy Considine his EMMY!
What a masterful performance. Absolutely stole the episode. You can feel the tragedy of his character through his emotions.
Can definitely see why he received a text message from the man himself George R. R. Martin letting him know that his version of Viserys he portrayed in the show was better than the one he wrote. He kept us on the verge for his whole screen-time.
The hype for the dance of dragons is real. Whether it's this season or the next one, all we know is all hells are going to break loose, which keeps the show going.
Honorable mention to the Cinematography of this show, which has been breathtaking so far.
Better Call Saul: Saul Gone (2022)
"The name's McGill. I'm James McGill."
It's the perfect conclusion to one of the most complex characters to ever grace a screen.
Saul goodman had nothing. Jimmy McGill had Kim. He desperately wanted to go back to Jimmy just so that he can experience his end-times with someone who loved him.
He got what's coming for him, and what he wanted with it. The same thing happened for Walter White. Flawless writing.
I wish I can find words to praise the cinematography and the acting on this show. Some of the foreshadowed shots from the beginning of the series paid off aesthetically and perfectly. Some of the solo scenes of Bob and Rhea in the last two episodes are memorable and gut-wrenching, they deserve their Emmys for that alone.
I can't believe it's the last of this amazing universe. It's been quite a ride.
Better Call Saul: Rock and Hard Place (2022)
If you think that it doesn't get anymore brutal than breaking bad, you're absolutely wrong.
The last bit of this episode was one of the best acted bits of the whole breaking bad/ better call saul universe. The writers have outdone themselves and did manage to make more brutal than ever.
Top notch writing, cinematography & acting. Absolutely can't get enough of this show.
The Power of the Dog (2021)
Slow and chaotic, but it makes sense.
The opening events set the tone of the movie perfectly. Two brothers with disparate personalities live in a ranch, then meeting an insecure, mourning mother and her adored son. With the wonderful job by the cast, the events rarely fail to be gripping.
Throughout the chapters, the actions of the characters somehow might seem random, but with the subtle intricacies embedded by the beautiful cinematography, it can be sensible.
One of those intricacies is in Benedict Cumberbatch's eye game, which was really the pinnacle of the movie, and his performance. He perfectly delivers the difference before and after the exposure of Phil's repressed vehemence, and his obsessive inspiration.
Unfortunately, the movie might seem to be drowned in its eeriness and profound details to the point where it could be perceived as a series of too-real events, which wouldn't be an enjoyable watch for some.
Practically, the cast was accurate enough for the story. Jesse Plemons continues to show that he's deserving of the latest roles he's getting from some notable filmmakers, without forgetting the chemistry he's shown with his couple, Kirsten Dunst, who was also great.
Other than that, the music obviously fit the theme, although some of its uses weren't suitable to some scenes.
The Academy Awards won't shy away from this film, that's for sure. It has too much bait for it to be not looked away from.
Capone (2020)
Tom hardy needs to work only with the likes of Scorsese/Tarantino.
We've seen many great performances put to screen by Hardy, beginning with Bronson, which gave him the attention he needed, and ending with this one.
But with Capone, it was really only Hardy, plus Linda Cardellini's (with little screen-time) usual great work. We've seen many great acting talents wasted on poor screenplays and directing, which we hope not to see in the likes of Tom Hardy.
His only Oscar nomination was while working with a great director in Alejandro Iñárritu, but that was only it. If he takes the Leonardo DiCaprio route and only work with great directors (e.g. Scorsese, Tarantino, Nolan, Spielberg and Cameron), we would most definitely see the best in him, and him getting the appreciation he deserves.
We don't know what was intended with this movie, but whatever they had planned, Hardy did just enough to make it work. It may seem as an unconventional parodying performance, or just absolute madness-portraying.
If you appreciate great acting, watch this movie. Otherwise, you might want to look out for better plot experiences.
Better Call Saul: Bad Choice Road (2020)
The most intense 10 minutes in recent TV.
The love between Jimmy and Kim is really exposed now, which scares me a lot. Considering what has been going on lately, it made us fear the fate of Kim as we never know what happened to her in the breaking bad timeline.
All we know is that Lalo is up to something, which may decide the fates of Nacho and Kim. When Saul's phone starts ringing that's where intensity started to build up, knowing that's something really bad might happen.
I've been saying this so many times, Rhea Seehorn has an amazing overshadowed talent. She deserves that Emmy for the work she had done for the last couple of seasons, especially this season.
Better Call Saul: Wexler v. Goodman (2020)
Rhea Seehorn kills it.
"I kept things from you to protect you."
This line brings the Breaking Bad nostalgia. The same excuse Walter has been using all series is brought back now. Every act that Walter did had consequences, and now Jimmy with his first act may lead to a terrible consequence.
In the last scene, we see a turning point in the relationship between Jimmy and Kim. Which was executed perfectly by the actors, especially Rhea Seehorn who has been overshadowed by the magnificent performance of Bob Odenkirk. All we know that the last three episodes are packed, with the Lalo-Gus/Mike battle and maybe the downfall of Nacho? who knows?
True Detective: Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye (2019)
Shades of season one.
Suspenseful tension, great cast, great writing and dark dialogue. All of which made the first season what it was, leaving the audience thrilled and wanting more. Can't wait for the conclusion of this season!
