Otello (1959)
Another Del Monaco Otello video
There is another Del Monaco video equally excellent & that is: With Mario Del Monaco, Rosanna Carteri, Renato Capecchi; The RAI Orch. with Tullio Serafin conducting. Filmed in 1958.
Schindler's List (1993)
I found two faults with the movie
I found this movie very good but I have some negative things to say about it & they are: In concentration camps the SS had "Kapos" who did the overseeing of the camps. "Kapos" are parole prisoners cooperating with the SS to run the camps. Also in one seen there were kids hiding in the cesspool to escape from being shipped out by the SS. The fumes in the cesspool are atrocious & the kids would die, so in real life hopefully of this sort of thing never happened & it shouldn't be part of the movie.
Apocalypse Now (1979)
One bad one star review (or should I say no star)
As a 'nam vet I went to see this movie & when I saw the seen where the swift boat going along the delta river way & on the coast line there was an U.S. army camp all lit (lighted) up, yes I said all lit up. This is when I got up from my seat in the movie house & walked out. No way, repeat no way would a camp be lit up since the "Charlie" would target it with 122 & mortar rockets. Yes this movie is stupid.
Conquest (1937)
Napoleone di Buonaparte
His real name & used in the film is Napoleone di Buonaparte; it's an Italian name being that Corsican bloodlines are Italian. I give this film 10 stars because of the acting by both Boyer & Garbo. I don't know how true the movie is but it probably provides the "gist" of the affair between Bonaparte & Marie Walewska. Plus in the story had a marriage being annulled & Napoleon divorce to Josephine also a baby out of wedlock; this is a 1937 film that had heavy censorship but it was all in this movie. Boyer is outstanding on his performance as Napoleon.
The Rack (1956)
Military Code of Conduct
This movie failed to mention the Military Code of Conduct that is as follows:
Code of Conduct
for
Members of the United States Armed Forces
I
I am an American, fighting in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense.
II
I will never surrender of my own free will. If in command, I will never surrender the members of my command while they still have the means to resist.
III
If I am captured I will continue to resist by all means available. I will make every effort to escape and aid others to escape. I will accept neither parole nor special favors from the enemy.
IV
If I become a prisoner of war, I will keep faith with my fellow prisoners. I will give no information or take part in any action which might be harmful to my comrades. If I am senior, I will take command. If not, I will obey the lawful orders of those appointed over me and will back them up in every way.
V
When questioned, should I become a prisoner of war, I am required to give name, rank, service number and date of birth. I will evade answering further questions to the utmost of my ability. I will make no oral or written statements disloyal to my country and its allies or harmful to their cause.
VI
I will never forget that I am an American, fighting for freedom, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my country free. I will trust in my God and in the United States of America.
The Narrow Margin (1952)
Good but with question marks
Instead of taking a train to L.A. with all its problems why couldn't they fly the woman to L.A., it would of been so much easier less of a problem. But then again what makes a good movie Hollywood style. You can say that this movie could of been a Alfred Hitchcock type of movie. I liked it.
Little Caesar (1931)
Name correction
I have one correction to the movie: The name Cesar (Caesar) Enrico Bandello should read Cesare Enrico Bandello. The name Cesar is Spanish whereas the Italian spelling is Cesare (pronounced Chez-er-ray). A footnote, the characters in the movie are supposed to be Sicilian (this is for people who are not Italian to understand the ethnicity of the gangsters). As a title Little Caesar sounds better.
The Fallen (2004)
Outstanding war movie
This movies is worth watching. I seen the so-call outstanding movie Saving Private Ryan; this movie is far, far better! This movie gives a excellent view, to me, of what it REALLY was like in the Italian campaign both with the Americans, Germans, partisans & especially the Italian soldiers. This movie and All Quiet On the Western Front are my best war movies. It is far better then Saving Private Ryan because the story line for Private Ryan is stupid, who would (being in their right mind) send a squad of soldiers into a combat zone to retrieve another soldier. There could of been other ways (communication wise) to contact the field unit to retrieve the soldier without risking lives to do it. Yes, Saving Private Ryan is an overrated film. I'll end this review on the movie The Fallen by saying again, see the movie!
