The Twilight Zone: Probe 7, Over and Out (1963)
I remember this from 1964
I watched this with my whole family as a 9 year old in 1964 on our black and white TV. I remember my father remarking that "this is how it could have happened - Adam and Eve." I vividly remember the scene when Adam finds Eve, her eyes were blackened. I asked my father why were her eyes blackened and he told because she was tired and hungry. Having not seen this episode in 45 years, I still remember it vividly - the TV transmissions back and forth with the home planet, scenes of bombs shaking the headquarters, with the final scene of the two walking off, Adam carrying his pack and Eve following. It may not have been a theatrical work of art, but it certainly left an impression on me all these years.
Twilight Time (1982)
Hidden Manna
A good heartwarming tale of an old widowed immigrant who has retired back to his home country. Malden plays the role excellently - I consider it his best role - as Marko Sekulovic - which is play on his own birth last name. Set in his own father's Yugoslavia, Malden seems to play his father or grandfather who returns to his home town after a life in America. His role is genuine. Jodie Thelen, who had the looks to be a sex symbol, plays a proper full of wisdom school teacher, who understands their world and respects Marko in his old age as other scoff at him. Marko raises his two grandchildren whose mother has fled to Germany for better fortune and love. The children are strong and stoic - and very mature (unlike American children). They take on the responsibilities of operating the farm they and Marko live on. Thelen takes a shine to them because of their dilemma. Good Friday night video.
Rumor Has It... (2005)
Beg to Differ
I beg to differ with javaroast. I found the movie to be very entertaining. I contains all the elements of plot (family is real life version of the Graduate with flashbacks), sub-plot (relationships between Anniston and her grandmother, boy friend, father, sister, and Costner), and twisted plots (sleeping with her "father," parallel paths with her mother, and finding out her father kicked Costner in the nuts in the soccer game 30 years ago). The tension between MacLaine and Costner, MacLaine and her son-in-law, and MacLain and everybody except the two granddaughters keeps the movie on pace. The repetitious image of the smoking cigarette getting the ashes flicked off maintains the connection to "The Graduate." However, I didn't judge the movie on its technical merits. I laughed my butt off - which made it entertaining enough for me.
