Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)
Better than ever
Great film. I knew it was going to be great because the book is great. Even they left behind some things of the book, the movie is still excellent, with all the story, characters, and special effects. And even people say that in any story, the book is better than the film, I think this film is as good as the book. Let me explain you the story.
Ron invites Harry to his home but Harry doesn't know why. In his house, he has a dream about Lord Voldemort and Peter Pettigrew, who is called "Wormtail" by Voldemort. Harry wakes up of this nightmare when, in it, Voldemort kills an old man.
But life continues, and Ron and his parents and brothers take Harry to the Quidditch Cup, and Harry, with Ron, his parents and brothers, and Hermione (who is also with them), sees a Quidditch match. In there Harry is told about a great Quidditch player (who is playing there), Viktor Krum. After the match, they return to their camping house. In there, they hear sounds and screams. They think that those are made by people celebrating, but in fact they're not celebrating, they are escaping. When they go outside the camping house, they see Death Eaters, followers of Voldemort. Harry tries to escape put he falls to the ground and passes out. When he wakes up, everyone's gone, and Harry sees someone making a spell to the sky. In the sky, a horrible sign appears. Harry learns that the sign in the sky is the sign of Voldemort.
In the school, Dumbledore says that a tournament will take place there, but only for students older than Harry's age. That means Harry can't be in the tournament. Not only Howarts is in the tournament, but two other magic schools. Even the tournament will be in Hogwarts, two other schools will be in the tournament. Only one student per school can be in the tournament. The Tri Wizard Tournament, called like that because only one student per school is chosen, and there are three schools playing.
They only get selected by putting their names in the Goblet Of Fire, a magic goblet. It selects one student per school, and that student is the one who will be in the tournament.
Meanwhile, they have a new Defense Against The Dark Arts teacher, the ex-auror "Mad Eye" Moody ("Mad Eye" because he has a magic eye). Moody knows about Harry's scar, and he tells that Harry is the only person that have survived to the killer spell that Voldemort did to him when he was a child. The spell is Avada Kedabra.
The day arrives for the Goblet of Fire to tell which students will participate in the Tournament. Form Howgarts, it selects Cedric Diggory. Harry knows him, but he's older than him. From the other schools the Goblet of Fire selects Fleur Delaceur, and Viktor Krum (the Quidditch player). The selection is over. Dumbledore announces that the three wizards are selected, but, for no reason, the Golbet of Fire selects one more student, when it shouldn't: Harry Potter.
Pink Floyd: The Wall (1982)
My favorite movie
Some people have told me that they didn't like this movie because they didn't understand it. Well, the first time I saw it, I understood it perfectly. This movie is excellent, is my favorite movie. Pink Floyd made an excellent work here. The movie is about a non-existent singer called Pink Floyd (as the real band). In the beginning, it shows Pink in his hotel, and then it comes to Pink's childhood. It shows Pink as a child and his mother, and how he loved her. After this, it shows Pink's terrible life at school. In the school "there were certain teachers who would harm the children anyway they could". With this life and the fact that the father died in World War II, it starts to make Pink insane. He, in his mind, starts to imagine things, and to create "his own world". This "world" is, in some way, the real world, but represented in another way. In this world, the faces of the children are masks, meaning that the teachers don't let the children see what is happening really, but hiding everything, and doing everything as the teachers want. In his imagination, Pink burns the school with other children, perfectly singing "We don't need no education...". But nothing really happens, is just in his mind. At the beginning, the links between the past, far-away past and present are very present. But later it stays in the present, and it shows Pink's life, with his wife. Because of this sad childhood, Pink is really depressive. So his wife goes with another man. And this is just "another brick in the wall". The wall is what Pink was creating since he was a child, that is, his own world, in his mind. In various parts of the movie we hear "this is just another brick in the wall", that is, another reason for Pink to continue doing the wall. After his wife leaves him, Pink goes with another woman, because he "needs a dirty woman". But this is just to prove that his wife's choice doesn't hurt him, because he's going with another woman. But he really doesn't do anything with her. Instead of that, he destroys his apartment. That's how the wall works. Everything after that are just bricks in the wall. And then, in fact, it shows a wall. This movie has various representations and we have to interpret it. That wall, completed, represents that Pink's world is complete in his mind. Now he just has to use it. Pink's life is confusing after this. It shows again links to the past, and then returning to the present. It all ends when Pink's manager discovers him drugged, and he takes him to the hospital. But in his way, Pink, in his wall, imagines that he has transformed in someone like Hitler. And that's how the wall works. The Hitler group, instead of be called "Nazi", are called "Hammer", but are with the same colors. Then he goes everywhere with this group, and is really a Nazi group, following "the queers and the coons and the reds and the Jews". But this is just in his mind, nothing of that is really happening. But then he realizes that everything's wrong, that he wants a break of the wall. What is happening really is, maybe, that he's in the hospital (after all the drugs that he has as we see before). How he says that he wants a break? In this way: before it was mentioned that he has "a little black book with his poems in" (also seen in his school). Well, in his mind, he's reading a poem (that is really a Pink Floyd's song), called Stop, and he says, "I wanna go home, take of this uniform and leave the show... I'm waiting in this cell because I have to know, have I been guilty all this time...?". Guilty of making all that stuff like Hitler, in his mind. In the wall, this is good, but in the real world, this is bad. So he is not sure that what he's doing. Really, he's saying "What I do, is good or bad?". But because he has entered the wall, and now he has put a doubt about it, he goes into trial. In the trial, he's found guilty. And he's expelled of the wall. What is really happening? Pink's world is over. Pink has died (probably in the hospital), and this is confirmed by his last scream (when the wall explodes). The last scene shows children picking some stuff from the ground. That is how the world will end. A great movie. If you haven't seen it, see it now. The album is also great. Some tracks have changed. The movie is incredible-good-narrated with Pink Floyd's songs.
Bruce Almighty (2003)
One of the worst films I've seen
Bad, bad, bad. I expected more of Jim Carrey, Jennifer Aniston and Morgan Freeman. Those are great actors, but the film is horrible. I expected more of this film. The story takes place in Buffalo, with Bruce (Jim Carrey), that works on a news channel. He gets fired and says that God is the responsible of everything. Eventually, God calls him and gives the work of being God to Bruce. I though that this would be a great film, but it wasn't. After watching it, I though I had lost two hours of my life. And it was true. It's not even funny. I don't know what happened to the director, the same who did Liar, Liar (another with Jim Carrey). Liar, liar was a great movie but this wasn't. I think Morgan Freeman should think more carefully the next time of picking a movie for acting. The only good think of the movie are the actors, that's why I voted 3. But everything else, it's horrible. Don't watch this movie. You'll lose your time. Seriously, this is one of the worst films I've seen.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
The second one better than the first one?
The second one better than the first one? I couldn't believe it but it was true. The second film of Harry Potter didn't get more money than the first one, but it still was better than the first one. Usually, the first movie is better, but Harry Potter was the exception. It has more adventure, reveals more secrets of Voldemort, and better effects. A masterpiece -- let's say it like this. However, everything is not that good. Unfurtnanetly, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is the movie with more errors in the history of the movies. It counts with more than 250 errors, as seen in the web page, www.moviemistakes.com . But it is still a good movie. The book is also better than the first one, but it's a little bored at the beginning. This movie shows us Harry being warned of great dangers in Hogwarts, however, he still wants to go. There's a great surprise at the end, so don't miss any detail on the movie. Watch this film if you haven't. Trust me. You'll thank me later.
Back to the Future Part II (1989)
Paradoxes in future and past
I liked a lot this movie. The fact they travel to the future and the past to prevent horrible things happen just makes a great movie. However, there were certain things I didn't like:
- Jennifer is now played by another actress, so that makes the storyline act with no sense.
- These paradoxes appear:
--If Biff traveled to the past and gave himself the almanac, making another 1985, Marty and Doc wouldn't ever have traveled to 2015 because Marty wouldn't have known Doc, because he's in a hospital. If they never traveled to 2015, that would make impossible for Biff to travel to 1955. That is, a paradox in time.
--Now that Biff is rich and put Doc in a hospital he wouldn't be able to create the Time Machine, making impossible for the future Biff to travel. Another paradox.
--If now exists another 1985, with the rich Biff and Marty's dad dead, Jennifer wouldn't be able to see future's Marty's dad, when she's in her future house.
--Jennifer sees her future self. Why the future self is surprised of seeing the 1985 Jennifer? It's obvious that the future Jennifer was sometime the 1985 Jennifer, so she knows that she will find the 1985 Jennifer in her house. But no, she's surprised.
--If Doc and Marty go to the past, and prevent Biff be rich with the almanac, and the normal 1985 returns, then the normal 1985 Marty and Doc wouldn't have a reason to travel because they do not know that the almanac exist. In that reality, Doc's and Marty's travel would end when they returned to the 1985 (that was the alternative one, but since that now is normal, they don't have to return) Then they didn't travel to the past to prevent Biff having the book. That's a great paradox.
But even though all that, is a good movie. I liked it a lot.
