Black Mirror: The National Anthem (2011)
I HATE it and hate everyone who wrote it
Thought provoking? Are you kidding me? Exploiting humiliation and finding it fun, even in a fantasy, to destroy someone's life is sick and perverse. The authors are clearly sociopaths and psychopaths. Encouraging thought process like this does not create anything but lack of empathy, when people get used to see things on TV and desensitize for other's emotions in real life. Whomever gave the green light to that rotting garbage deserves to never be cared for by people ever again. This show and the rating it has are mind blowing, when have we fallen so low to want to consume that as people?! Astonishingly insensitive and damned to hell.
White Collar: Ice Breaker (2013)
Some casting mishaps
While I like the actor who plays Sergei, Mike Dopud, it would of been pretty helpful if he spoke Russian, not another language during this episode. Plenty of US viewers are Eastern European and Russian immigrants and can make a distinction between different languages... I understand that he has a Serbian ancestry, among others, but still. If he was better for the role than an ethnically Russian actor, that is absolutely fine, but at least learn few frases... It takes the viewers out of the magic a bit, when you realize the Russians do not speak Russian, lol. Otherwise, the episode is good as alway...
Carnival Row (2019)
Simply brilliant
Using fantasy to convey messages has been a long loved tradition. Lord of the Rings, Bewitched, etc.etc. This show is simply the most brilliant way I have seen messaging regarding racism, police brutality, capitalist exploitation, wrongs with communism and dictatorship, Nazism and Holocaust, all cooped in one, portrayed. The viewer has a chance to experience the messaging, to create its own conclusions, to feel for the characters and feel their pain. The show is very realistic and the characters feel very real exactly because they have been borrowed from real life, but placing them in a fantasy world makes the message way easier to accept and digest. I think this show is a must for everyone to watch.
Sweet Tooth: Out of the Deep Woods (2021)
This kid is so dumb
I am sorry to say that, but the kid character is written super annoying. Zero survival instinct, discipline and critical thought. If I was behaving like that as a child, I would of not survived. I guess the kid is lucky to be raised by a nice father, so it did not have to worry about consequences all the time, but living in hiding should of taught him better. The character is just not believable under the circumstances. Makes you angry, because you are rooting for him to survive, and he keeps doing everything possible not to. Teaches bad behavior all together, kids who are let live acting like that turn into irresponsible, clueless and spoiled adults. Sorry for the rant, but really wanted to like this show and so far I am just passionately annoyed.
The Resident: A River in Egypt (2022)
Good episode, bad props
Important subjects brought up. But those fake babies were really distracting. If you are using fakes, at least shoot the episodes in a way that it is not visible that they are dolls... Good idea to shine more light on postpartum depression. Some of the dialogue between Devon and Leela is out of character and sounded as cheap way to push a lately popular opinion. Don't think anyone who truly wants kids will all of a sudden decide going to restaurants are a better option for their future, just because they saw someone struggling with newborns. Also, Leela thinking her sister sounded upbeat and fine is not believable for the character, but I guess it is a way to bring light to families, which miss the signs of new mothers struggling.
House of the Dragon (2022)
Not bad, not great
I realized what I am missing - Game of Thrones had multiple storylines, developing simultaneously, with very different strong characters. Maybe this is just the fault of a slow start, but focussing on just one family and one story lacks in comparison, and feels a bit long and boring, like we are there 24/7, watching them cooking breakfast and going to the restroom. Does not have anything really catchy so far, but otherwise, nice story, and beautifully done production. Hopefully it picks up soon... Two of the characters have potential, but has a feeling of a soap opera so far, like I can skip 10 episodes and still know where it is going.
Cyrano (2021)
Piece of Art
This movie is masterful in every detail... Acting, scenery, vision... It is astonishingly beautiful and heartbreaking. I would watch it again and again. Dont know what the authors of the bad reviews expected to see, but I would not change anything.
Sweet Mountain Christmas (2019)
Real
Good movie, and as an extra bonus, the women look natural - no unrealistic weight expectations - which is a really great and needed thing. Tired of movies making women starve and feeling not pretty enough.
Doogie Howser, M.D.: Pilot (1989)
The writing lacks a lot.
The sexual harassment "joke" did not age well. Extremely inappropriate writing, not to mention that no woman would agree to do this "joke" to a kid or a colleague. Profoundly stupid and painful to watch.
The series idea is good though, wish they filmed series like that again with better writers.
When Calls the Heart: The Kiss (2021)
Finally
Perfect choice. Only wish it did not took forever.
Blindspot: Authentic Flirt (2015)
You need to hire native speakers.
Love the show. Horrible "Bulgarian" though. I am a native speaker and had yo replay it literally 10 times to understand it. You should really hire native speakers, many Bulgarian actors in the States.
Enola Holmes (2020)
Wish it can become a series
Very clever and empowering little girls in many ways :) Good acting and beautiful scenery. Hope they turn it into series.
Jane the Virgin (2014)
Great show, very annoying main character
Loved the show, but past season one wanted to slap Jane and really hated her by the end. She creates all her problems and constantly messes up the lives of everyone around her.
Little House on the Prairie: May We Make Them Proud: Part I (1980)
The plot just not make sense
Adam and Mary had been through a storm saving a blind child before, but they will just leave the baby in a burning house and wait outside, not even visibly concerned until Alice started screaming in the house? No parent would do that. Also, Alice just stands in the bedroom and scream instead of covering and runing through the fire? And in her last scenes she hits the window with the baby? Yea, sure. They did not even close the door to the pantry/basement when they saw the fire there, and let it spread faster due to oxygen. Now, fine, 150 years ago people might of not had all the science, but they knew how to deal with fire better than that. Just soooo irritatingly dumb written. All those characters are way smarter and stronger to act so irresponsibaly even under the shock of the surcumbstances.
