Calm Before the Storm (2011)
One of the best short films ever
I liked this short film because it was so basic, but done so well. It was entertaining and very believable. Usually something like that I'd quit out of, but it kept me hooked on. I like how you did this small project all on your own, in your room, it showed me I don't need a million things to make a good movie. I hope one day you'll be in Hollywood because you have the mind, and the determination to make great and entertaining films. I liked the way you shot it as well. Its good that you know how to, write, direct and act, defiantly something not everyone can do, next Charlie Chaplin maybe? Your whole way of making films have inspired me, and your defiantly an influence. 10/10 for a great short film!
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
The Winter Soldiers lives up, Cap disappoints.
This movie overall disappointing me. At least we know the theme is Trust. But honestly theirs no real story it's just Trust no one, squeezed into 136 mins. Chris Evans overall gives a pretty disappointing appearance as Cap, Sebastian Stan however, 10/10 I thought he made The Winter Soldier feel so real, and so scary. The whole film felt very futuristic however, Fury's truck... It just didn't feel real. That device Peirce uses to kill the council... wtf. NATASHA'S FACE MASK IT DOESN'T EXIST! I thought this film would be a lot better than it was, there were 2 main things i liked however. 1) CGI, This is the best CGI I've ever seen, Those Helicarriers, words cannot describe it. It was breathtaking to see, soon movies are just going to be CGI. 2) The fight choreography, amazing, the fight scenes were great, especially the Ship one. They felt so real and really made me feel like I was there. Overall it was a great film, 2nd best in the MCU after The Avenger's. But disappointing for what I was looking for.
Argo (2012)
Greatest true story film of all time!
I finished watching Argo today. I was very impressed. This is my favorite true story film of all time for sure. It's a mix of different things, you never know if the plan is going to succeed or not. Notable performances by Ben Affleck and Bryan Cranston.
The main positives I thought was the performance by Affleck, he really made me feel like he was hiding pain of his divorced marriage, but also made me feel he was dedicated to his job. Affleck also gives a great job as director and i reckon he should have received an Oscar Nod for it. I enjoyed the last hour of the film however, as we really don't know what's gonna happen if there gonna get caught, if there gonna get out, a really good atmosphere. I think the opening scene at the Embassy however was extremely well done feeling very believable.
The things i disliked were I think they failed to convince us it was the 80s, The 80s hairstyles were too fake, and really didn't seem believable. Also when we hit somewhere round 40 mins i began to get bored a bit and i didn't like that, but the ending makes up for it.
Overall a great film, based on a great true story. Must watch before you die film
Pompeii (2014)
300 meets volcanos!! I loved it! has to be up there with my fav films!
Paul WS Anderson brings us a spectacular Roman film! One of the best I've seen. I really don't know where to start with it, so I'll say the negatives first. I thought it was a little Clichéd. The characters said and did things that definitely would only happen in movies. For example, when Milo is chasing Cassia and and Corvus on his horse, when he nearly gets covered in ash, we all knew he was gonna come back out... The next bad thing would have to be, i thought they totally forgot what happened to Phoenix. They also seemed to forget about the Volcano erupting at times. (I don't wanna say I know how Volcano's erupt...)
Right now onto the positives. 1 word. CGI. The CGI in this film is some of the best, it tops Gravity. OK it tops GRAVITY. In this film they recreated the eruption of Pompeii perfectly. I couldn't have asked for anything better. Also I thought Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje gave a great performance as Atticus and definitely deserves recongition. Kit Harrington could have given a great performance but failed to deliver. But it doesn't matter because I loved the CGI so much.
Anyway to sum up 10 out of 10 because the CGI has blown me away, i struggled to believe it was fake. DEFIANTLY WATCH IN 3D!!!!
Non-Stop (2014)
Snakes on a plane, without the Snakes
Non-stop was probably the best movie I've seen that was set on a plane. It's run time was perfect, not to short, not too long. The actual plan was realistic and could actually happen.
Some elements I enjoyed about the film were the Cinematography, i thought he did very well to get all these shots, very good job. I like the score from John Ottman, I thought the music he composed fitted well to the circumstances of the movie, great job. The last thing I thought was the CGI landing, and explosion of the plane, very realistic, not as good as Gravity's CGI, but pretty good.
Now i found this a little coincidental, Scott McNairy played the Character who abducts Trevor Slattery in "Marvel One Shot: All Hail The King" he plays the Hijacker in this film, if Marvel made this movie it would have been so awesome to see that tied in :D
Haha anyway, overall 7/10 Liam Neeson great performance, great back story, good cinematography, great graphics and a beautiful score. Good job!
Gravity (2013)
Gravity could have done better
It took me a very long time too watch Gravity. I didn't see it in the cinema but watched it on a 42" television. Let's just say it lost everything, in the cinema it could have been a great movie, it would have actually made you feel like you were there.
I only gave it 8 because it felt like they only just managed to reach 85 minutes. They were struggling to add things, maybe they could have added like the shuttle takeoff, or a scene at mission control, or even the Russians blowing up there own satellite. Sandra Bullock however gave a great performance, and so did George Clooney. Very very good special effects, most of this film is CGI. I think Alfonso Cuaron did a great job directing and writing with his brother Jonas Cuaron.
Overall Gravity I think is overrated, but was OK. Not one of my favorite films and found it hard to watch, but defiantly not the worst film I've seen, good job Alfonso.
