Nope (2022)
Not good...
Right ..well it was decently acted by all the cast. Unfortunately their characters were paper thin drawings and considering the main two were supposed to be siblings they seemed to have zero realtionship or chemistry at all - like they had just met.
The other characters were just nothings, just filler and some totally superfluous - the actors were fine but they had nothing to work with at all.
Story - well. It was ok, but the more you think about it the dafter it obviously is. I can't be bothered ripping it apart and pointing out the silliness of it....but the ending was just awful. Awful. Awful.
The flashbacks to the monkey and the shoe and other bits was just meaningless to the story we were in. They were actually the most tense and scary part of the film....they just didn't seem to belong in this one.
It was well photographed and most of the special effects were good. Most of them. Some plain daft and the creature completely changing at the end made no sense and was never explained in any way.
It was also WAY too long. So many parts just dragged and it seemed over indulgent and needed really editing down severely.
In all I still think Jordan Peele is massively overrated. Get out was decent, Us was dreadful, his rebooting of the Twilight Zone was an insult to the original and then there is this, which is nothing to write home about and I wouldn't watch again.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
Old Star Trek done anew...and well
I just want to say that I like this - it is the best Trek since TNG by some margin.
Having said that I'd like to say that the character of Ortegas is annoying and her attitude and outbursts would never have got her on the bridge of the Enterprise.
The casting of Uhuru is not great - no offense to the actress, I just don't think she is right.
And whoever cast this iteration of Kirk wants firing as they have obviously never watched one episode or film or seen a photo of Shatner...that's the only explanation I have for that dreadful decision.
Other than that I think it is visually excellent and the stories are decent, old-school and self contained. And mercifully the scripts don't get bogged down or filled out pushing issues down our throats.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Good at times, not a lot
I love Star Trek. I've seen every iteration multiple times. But this one...oh dear.
I so much want it to be good, and in many places it really is. If it would just tell a decent Si-fi story from start to finish, keeping the viewers with the story and action it would be fine .. possibly great.
But every ten mins it breaks off and goes off at a tangent with hushed chats about each others feelings and how they never were accepted or they feel guilty about some past issue.
It is all so forced. Its a totally unnatural way to make a program and guaranteed to lose all the flow and just cheese the viewers off.
It is almost as if it is written by two teams...one does the Si-fi story and the other does the personal stuff. And they are all filmed seperately and then cut together willy-nilly. Please just stop forcing 'issues' into every program and every other character, it is doing the exact opposite of what you want - it is actually turning people off.
I have found that the only way I can watch it is to watch the story parts and skip through the other forced nonsense.
Shame.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
Dumb
I won't go into the plot as there isn't any.
Just indestructible bad man leather-face chopping up various idiots.
It is loud, very graphically violent and dumb as a bag of rocks.
I actually feel less intelligent having watched it.
Trigger Point (2022)
Unrealistic
This started off ok - didn't feel totally accurate but the obvious nonsense in the first episode was forgiveable.
However it has just got more stupid as each episode progresses.
Lana is now suspended after almost totally blowing surveillance on a potential bomb squad traitor and then going off on him practically telling him that she knows he's up to something.
It has gone silly and hard to watch.
Poor.
Ronin (1998)
Decent but ruined by one thing
And that one thing is Robert DeNiros inability to pronounce the word Hereford correctly...which his character should know.
Of course the Director and all other cast and crew must also take responsibility for being cowards and not telling mr De Niro that he was saying it wrong.
The Walking Dead: Rendition (2021)
Not another bunch of nutters led by an arch-nutter
Yey, yey, yey.
TWD has done this very same thing multiple times already. This episode and The Reapers are just rinse & repeat if people that we've already seen in previous series.
This series started off well but this episode is awful and the writing just a lazy bunch of clichés.
Poor. I hope it picks up and the actual overall story of TWD actually moves on to...somewhere... anywhere really.
The Witcher: Family (2021)
I want it to be better
I really want this programme to be good. But despite its great production values and decent acting it just isn't.
Season 2 started off well but it dropped off quickly and I was utterly bored for the majority of the rest of the season.
It seemed predictable and yet meandering and lacking in any real direction.
I had hoped that due to Covid some time would have been able to be spent refining scripts and stories but that doesn't seem to have happened and it all feels like it is an unfinished article that is being filmed.
Shame.
Succession: All the Bells Say (2021)
Marvelous stuff
It's the best thing on TV right now ..and one of the best series ever
The acting is fabulous and the writing is just magnificent.
The scene where the three siblings were sat on the dirt listening to Kendal confessing to the death of the waiter and then the aftermath with bad jokes and gentle touching was immaculate and both funny and very moving.
The Machiavellian machinations about the take over and the betrayals and backstabbing at the end was superb also.
It is like watching a modern take on the Roman emperors. It's just brilliant.
