The Best Civil War Movie of All Time
8 April 2007
I continue to be amazed by two things: First, the sheer emotion I feel every time I have watched this movie. You would think after watching it 10-15 times, that it would begin to subside. It doesn't. This is one of the greatest movies ever produced. I can only imagine what the real battle was like, but, this re-creation gives me a much better idea of the passion and tragedy that must have engulfed those brave men who were there. Their bravery, valor, and sacrifice, was indeed heroic. Second, I'm amazed by how many people have not seen this movie. For starters, this movie should be required viewing by every high school student in the country. Maybe, they would appreciate this nation a little more, and the cost that has been paid by our ancestors to preserve our country.

The acting was very good in most every area. Richard Jordan gave his best performance as General Armistead. Tom Berenger was excellent as General Longstreet. Jeff Daniels was great as Col. Chamberlain. General Lee was an impossible task, but Martin Sheen did a good job portraying someone that is almost revered as God. There is almost no way to meet everyone expectations.

The music and photography were outstanding.

How this picture did not get an Oscar for something, is beyond me. Movies far worse than this have won awards in the past. The Motion Picture Academy must be brain-dead.

I recommend that everyone who has seen it, make sure their families and friends see it. It is well worth the time!!

Finally, A Clean, Funny, Family Movie
29 April 2006
I have almost quit going to movies. This one may make me change my mind.

It is funny. It has a good morale. It is clean enough to take the whole family and not be embarrassed by the bad language and sexual innuendos. Yes, there is some humor tied to bodily functions, but, compared to the trash that comes out of Hollywood most of the time, this is much better than I would normally expect.

Oh, by the way, the moral was a good one. And, there were several other morals I liked. They also portrayed families growing closer when they spend time together, even in difficult circumstances.

I'm not the biggest fan of Robin Williams, but his ab libs in this movie are classic.

Our theatre was about half full, and the vast majority were laughing loudly during most of the movie. I bet the crowds get bigger when the word spreads. The trailer for this movie did not do it justice.

This is not "What About Bob", but it is funnier than most comedies I've seen in a long time. I'll take good, clean humor over trashy humor all day.

Peter and Paul (1981 TV Movie)
Peter and Paul
23 January 2005
This is one of the best biblical movies I have seen. The fact it was made for TV makes it more remarkable, considering its' best competition was filmed for theatrical release.

As a Christian, I was a little wary of the approach Mr. Hopkins would give in his portrayal of one of the greatest men to have ever lived, the Apostle Paul. Hopkins gave a wonderful performance. His vision of Paul was entirely believable. Paul was supremely faithful, but wrestled with unforgiveness, illness, hardship, anger, etc. Mr. Hopkins' showcased the entire spectrum of Pauls' strenghts and weaknesses, without losing the strength of his immense faith in Christ.

I highly recommend this movie because it is well done, it is true to the Biblical accounts, and it is a moving account of the lives of Peter and Paul.
