Snowpiercer (2013)
But, almost everyone's now dead?!
This wasn't too bad a film, shaky camera work overdone a bit to simulate action but was an easy watching film right till the end, where the train crashes and is 90% wiped out and down a chasm with only the front few carriages left, with a few junkies possibly alive, ,Chris is about to die from blood loss and the female teenager and little boy standing in a valley with no apparent way out are being looked at by a creature that's supposed to be an ...... awwwww moment, forgetting that in an ice age ... and anywhege they live right now, polar bears are the lions of the mountains and its only looking at them deciding whether to have a snack now or later! Baaaaad ending to an OK film imo.
Freelance (2023)
An easy watching film with a stand out performance
I thought this would be an easy watching run o the mill type action comedy, and it is, but its also more than that, there's a lovely twist with the Presidents loyalty and a stand out performance by Juan Pablo Raba, his comedy delivery is just exceptional which is why I rated this movie so high, the film itself isn't bad just, kinda easy action comedy movie type stuff that's OK but equally not that memorable but I'll remember this film now purely for this, for me, outstanding performance that had me laugh out loud quite a few times. Don't stop at the end either make sure to watch the bloopers in the end credits for extra giggles.
New Amsterdam: All the World's a Stage... (2022)
BRINGING THE WRONG INFO HERE!
This episode is shameful, the writers are definitely anti cannabis and pro a psychic? Even though there's no such thing which is why no one has ever been able to prove psychic ability under lab tests etc etc, the cannabis information is incorrect too, this is the sort of tv that some people believe as correct, when actually all you're doing is harming the medical profession with such utter rubbish.
While cannabis of course should be controlled and there's a decent message here about a parent actually getting into trouble for giving it to her daughter, weed is portrayed in a very bad light when they could have actually pointed put its many medical benefits... you know... in a medical drama, only a few more episodes to go, started so ill finish but after season 3, fully a biased programme in most episodes come to think of it.
New Amsterdam: Grabby Hands (2022)
YEAH staff will willingly face jail time now ...
Sorry but s 1-3 I enjoyed then the social justice themes just get too much, it's like every issue must be tackled each episode with now, a nurse taking a 10 year jail sentence when she was cleared in civil court due to a faulty machine, yet in criminal the DA makes an issue, so when faced with the exact same situation the nurse refuses to override the machine, rightly so, the doctor doesn't, Max holds a nonflab and woah all the staff now decide they got into nursing to help not to cover their a55es, nah its gone into the realm of the wildly unbelievable now, 10 years in jail or follow the rules, no one in their right mind would keep overriding a machine when their colleagues go to jail for it!!!!
Mad Men (2007)
Slow, boring, offensive for offensives sake
Same as the title, really disappointed as heard so many great reviews so started box set binge, second season in I've lost interest, very little happens, the occasional sit up and take notice moment but its just about a terrible man who cheats on his wife constantly from what I can gather.
There's character depth to the main guy, if you're prepared to sit there an entire season and then find out he may have a decent side to him, then he cheats with someone else. It does seem to throw how sexist men are in your face over and over again while not really serving any other purpose other than to shock the viewer, very disappointed.
Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
Possibly the best TV series ever, ending terribly
I've just finished watching GOT for the third time, I dont have normal TV so tend to binge watch series. This is sadly as ive put in the title, possibly the best TV series ever written rushed out at the end and tied off in ways that could never have made viewers happy unless they led to a follow up, which of course they dont. Im a big fan of GOT and I think that we needed more episodes in the final series and better decisions made with the characters, its just confusing and with the case of the Queen, wtf is all I can say, I can deal with the Night King being beaten so easily aa I thought that episode was great, but the way things are tied off feels forced and unnecessary. Still a great series except for the last few episodes and definitely something you WANT to finish not just carry on because its there.
The Blacklist: Ilyas Surkov (No. 54) (2017)
To add to the goofs section
Lots of goofs about lemonade stands and vehicles but I'm from Leeds, whatever dialect these people are speaking is far from it I don't even think they're from the UK tbh!
Criminal (2016)
Ruined at the start for me sadly
Yep I'm one of those, if you can't do your research don't do it. When a London cabbie is given a gps with directions for a place in London I was on a bad mood for ages!!! London black cab drivers have an encyclopedic knowledge of London's streets they have to to be able to get the job. It's called the knowledge, world famous. You've have to pass it since 1865!!! Please do some research on the UK Hollywood pretty please.
Capone (2020)
Deserves better reviews
I think most people who watched this wanted or expected a good gangster film starring a great actor, what you get is a great interpretation of one of the most prolific gangsters in history, slowly losing his mind. You're not sure at parts whether what you're seeing is reality or in Capones mind. Most people forget how Capone went out, he was ill with syphillis and was too late to get the early types of penicillin to slow the brain damage so had the mental age of a 12 year old around the time this movie is set. Definitely a thought provoking film
The Mandalorian (2019)
Clearly written by a real fan and boy it shows
What a wonderful series this was to watch, I waited and binge watched both s1 and s2 over a few days, fantastic action sequences, great storylines and character development, laugh out loud moments this show has it all, whenever another franchise of a famous and popular part of movie history is done it's quite often just a money grabber and this is far from that. What a great show
The Watch (2020)
Such a shame for Discworld fans
What a terrible terrible let down this was, firstly I don't think the casting director ever read a Discworld novel or even looked at a cover! Saying inspired by is no excuse to what on earth they were thinking!!!! The patrician is supposed to be male, see Charles Dances' Excellent take on him. Cut me own throat as a female disabled gangster??? What?? Vimes I can only hope and pray at the temple of small gods is going to become a strong character instead of a weasel, Cheery little bottom??!! Ok now here we have the dwarf female/male thing going on so I can deal with a TS/TV in the role but not TALLER than Vimes!!! Carrots only similarity really is having ginger hair, Angua is kind of ok but should really be taller and have long hair not shaved! Detritus actually looks pretty good but then it's CGI but of course he's an idiot so how do we convey that to the audience ..... give him a Yorkshire accent! There are others but more along the same lines and what I'm saying here isn't sexist in any way, anyone including my 65 year old Mum who got me into Discworld in the first place 30 years ago must surely agree that you struggle to work out who ppl are as the Discworld has a massive fan base and we all love it incredibly, myself I have re read every book with vimes in it many times and this year read 33 Discworlds, thanks lockdown!! Believe the other reviews this is such a shame and a let down to Discworld lovers, I actually found the Archchancellor to be quite aggressive and ol Mustrum ain't like that for me! Dr Cruces again a Middle aged woman??? That one made my mum shout "what!!!" At the tv! Changes are acceptable of course people need to have their own take on things but change so much and we struggle to understand why!!! It doesn't add to it, it takes away all our pre conceived ideas about our most loved characters and starts again, Sir Terry spent far too long on these folk to have them made fools of like this! Finally I'd say after watching two episodes I laughed maybe 3-4 times, but that was only because the writers took some direct quotes from the books I already knew and loved, the story seems a mish mash of the guards trilogy and then adding later guards storylines, Sir Terry could do that, without chapters and having footnotes you could have cleverly used a voice over to add a bit more depth but no, it doesn't work for me far too much going on with no character understanding for the people who've read a Discworld or two, for people unfamiliar with the franchise it may work for you but if you go on to read the books you'll understand my and other peoples frustrations here.
