Last Man Standing (1996)
HMMM... WONDER WHAT CLINT EASTWOOD THOUGHT OF THIS?
Hard to believe no one reviewer made the connection between this movie, and the 2 I believe this to be remakes of sorts, 1] A Fistful Of Dollars -1964 & 2] For A Few Dollars More -1965., both from Clint's classic Man With No Name Collection.
If you liked this then you should watch the 2 originals along with The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly as well as Hang' Em High - 1968.
Looking forward to the thoughts of those reviewers and other after they watch the aforementioned Clint Eastwood movies and compare them to Bruce Willis' entry of Last Man Standing.
Berberian Sound Studio (2012)
Berberian Sound Studio for those with an ear and a brain
I'm afraid I'll have to take bradleybean86 to task on his review of the aforementioned movie.
At first, I'll admit I was a shade in BB86's camp. Berberian Sound Studio started out a bit slow for me, but as I tend to be a bit cerebral when it comes to certain genres of motion pictures I saw the premise and the promise of what turned out to be a good thinking man's movie.
I was quickly engrossed into Toby Jones' character the sound engineer, Gilderoy and was quickly captivated thereafter by the story.
Toby known by most flick fans from his character Dr. Arnim Zola in Captain America: The First Avenger and CA: The Winter Soldier. I was first introduced to him on screen as the Judge in The Messenger The Story of Joan of Arc. Then again as the voice of Dobby in Harry Potter and The Chamber Of Secrets/Deathly Hollows.
I pondered fairly early on wondering it was a spin on the Truman Show in a different guise. Far be it from me to throw any spoilers in here so I was partially, to a certain extent, correct.
I said No Spoilers,so let it suffice to say, don't go into this with any preconceptions, minds are like parachutes, they work best when open. :) Watch it a your leisure, settle into your favorite spot with a good bowl of buttered popcorn, a Coke, and enjoy the journey.
Then post your own thoughts on the fascinating bit of film magic.
Big History (2013)
From Killing Brain Cells to Expanding Them
Breaking Bad fans prepare to regain some brain cells & increase your intelligence!
Just watched the first two episodes of Big History on H2 on 02 Nov., 13 which Bryan Cranston now narrates.
If you are a history fanatic as I am then you need to catch this show!
Praise to Bryan Cranston for his narration of the series. It is great that now he can show those fans of Breaking Bad that he has more interests and talents than just being an actor who plays a killer drug dealer.
Which in turn benefits our children's intelligence as well as adults.
Bravo & keep up the good work Mr. Cranston!
Friday the 13th (2009)
The 13th Friday the 13th movie idea
I have been watching Friday The 13th since I turned 13 in 1980. Oh and that movie was so great for all of us guys at Camp Wapsie Y in Iowa. The girls needed escorting to their cabins because they were afraid of Jason.
I think the final and 13th movie of Friday the 13th needs to have Betsy Palmer return as Jason's mom to tell him his work is finished at the end of the movie. Another idea for that would be all the survivors from the movie series return to Camp Crystal Lake to at last put Jason down to rest.
Also an explanation of sorts of Jason's powers and his mobility would be good.
Would love to hear other ideas from long time watchers as myself as to how the Final and 13th Movie should go and end.
Mad Doc
Dredd (2012)
Nowhere near as good as 1995 Judge Dredd
First off let me state I am a HUGE fan of Karl Urban as Dr. Leonard H. McCoy of the Star Trek reboot. I think he got the feel, intonation and mannerisms of DeForest Kelley's Dr. McCoy right on the money.
Although, as Judge Dredd I think Urban blew it. That is not to say that Sly Stallone's movie was perfect. It most definitely could have done without Rob Schneider! I think Stallone was more in tune with the Dredd of comic book fame. He had the kick butt attitude and mannerisms,to use a British phrase, Spot On, and who doesn't love Armand Assante as a villain. He does it so well.
Gotta love the Judge uniforms in both movies, but I think Sly's is more impressive over Urban's. Not to mention the weapons and other great toys. I do prefer the 1995 Dredd Lawmaster Cycle to the Karl Urban bike.
Enough for now. For those interested in the Odd, Unusual, & Weird check out my blog: http://maddoctortom.blogspot.com/ Then you'll understand why I am called Mad Doc.
