The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
a perfect prison drama
The Shawshank Redemption, based on the fantastic Stephen King novel, is a moving story about Andy Dufresne, an innocent man charged with the murder of his wife and her lover who is sentenced to 40 years in prison and fights hard to survive, but in prison he forms a rare and close friendship with fellow inmate Ellis 'Red' Redding. The film more or less focuses on the friendship between Andy and Red, played beautifully by Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman, Morgan's deep and moving voice was perfect to describe the closeness of his friendship with Andy. The film had a great happy ending where Andy escaped from the prison after serving almost 20 years, he also managed to expose the prison as there was murder and corruption going on there, Andy moves to a beautiful island abroad and when Red is paroled after serving 40 years in prison he is reunited with Andy, it was a great ending to a beautiful movie.
Valley of the Dolls (1967)
a great example of what Hollywood is really like
Valley Of The Dolls is an excellent movie and still remains one of my favourites, I am a huge Sharon Tate fan, she truly was the most beautiful and sweetest person that ever lived. The three main characters in Valley Of The Dolls, played beautifully by Sharon Tate, Patty Duke and Barbara Parkins, are struggling to deal with the pressures of Hollywood therefore they turn to pills which are called "dolls" in the movie. I absolutely loved Sharon's character, Jennifer North, she was a sweet hearted woman, just like Sharon, and it was just tragic that this beautiful young woman takes her own life because of her breast cancer, that was very sad. This movie is very moving and possibly Sharon's best performance, it will remain one of my favourite films for always. The biggest tragedy ever of course was the callous and brutal murder of Sharon in August 1969 which continues to sadden me through and through.
The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946)
well acted drama
The Postman Always Rings Twice is an excellent movie which is very well acted, I first saw it when I was a child, it was one of my dad's favourite films and I have always loved it. Lana Turner is absolutely beautiful and wonderful as Cora, what I love the best is how back in the 1940's there was no sex involved yet through the superb acting you could see just how much Frank loves Cora and vice versa, it wasn't so good as it had a sad ending, but its the perfect example of how planning a murder can go horribly wrong. I have this movie on DVD and it certainly is one of my favourite films all time, no matter how many times I watch it I continue to enjoy every moment.
A Matter of Justice (1993)
unbelievably a true story!
This movie made me very sad because it was a true story. Patty Duke's acting in this film is absolutely excellent and at times gave me a lump in my throat, what an incredibly strong character, to have lost her only child to murder then have to fight for her son's widow to be brought to justice and to seek custody of her grand-daughter, what an incredibly strong woman. Dusty was very lucky to have such a sweet, loving, caring husband and to have him murdered was an evil act and I am glad she got what was coming to her. At the end of the film where Dusty is sentenced and when Mary and Jack are alone in the courtroom, I had tears in my eyes when Mary turned to Jack and said : "I wish Chris was here, I want to hold him in my arms and say you can rest now Mum and Dad have taken care of everything", poor Mary and Jack losing that precious boy, but at least they have little Christine to help them go on and at least they got the justice they needed, this was an excellent film with great acting especially from Patty Duke.
The Green Mile (1999)
what a wonderful story!
The Green Mile is my favourite movie of all time, I first rented it on DVD and after I watched it it made me cry so much, of course any film made from Stephen King's books is excellent. I am a great believer in the afterlife, ghosts and spirits so when it turned out that John Koffee was one of God's miracles and was trying to save the two little girls that he was charged with their murder, it was breathtaking, this man had so much power behind those healing hands. I loved Del, the little french man, and I was very distressed when he died, but I was glad Percy, the guard, got what was coming to him and at least the real killer of those precious little girls was killed. At the end of the movie when Paul touched John's hand while he was about to be electrocuted, I burst into tears, its the saddest and most beautiful movie I have ever seen and the acting abilities of all who were involved was just beautiful.
Dance of the Vampires (1967)
excellent movie
I first saw The Fearless Vampire Killers a year ago and it is one of my most favourite films of all time, it is a combination of romance and comedy, what drew me to watching the movie is because Sharon Tate stars in it and I adore her, she was the most beautiful woman that ever lived, Sharon gives the film all that she has got and when Sarah, Sharon's character, says her first words she lights up the screen with her beauty, Sharon was a very talented actress and what happened to her in 1969 was a tragedy which breaks my heart, I have her pictures all over my home and I love her so much. Roman Polanski is a very gifted movie director and I must say his acting in The Fearless Vampire Killers was wonderful, he certainly was a very lucky man having Sharon as his wife and I don't think people realise what a tragic life he has had from surviving the holocaust, losing his mother, almost being the victim of a serial killer and then losing his beautiful wife, it is amazing he has managed to go on and be so successful. The Fearless Vampire Killers is a brilliant movie because of Sharon and Roman.
