Prince of the City (1981)
Human to the core
(Warning, Spoilers within) I haven't seen a movie about cops before or since this was made that is as great as this. This is probably Treat Williams best role. The bond that the policeman have in this movie is amazing. It is painful to watch some of the things happen, that happen. The other performances are great too. The late Jerry Orbach is great, as well as Carmine Caridi (an underrated actor), who plays a crooked detective. I found it to be an exciting and very tense and very sad film, as it showed all of the different characters. Between the cops and the prosecutors and the mobsters and the bail bondsmen and and the judges, drug dealers and the junkies, nobody seemed to be relaxed. Everybody is on edge, which makes them scary and dangerous to be around. Considering that the song "Love will keep us together", by Captain and Tennelle, is on the soundtrack was interesting to me. If you watch the film you will see what I mean. This film definitely needs to be talked about in the future when the late Sidney Lumet's career is discussed. He did a great job directing it.
The Teachings of Jon (2006)
sad film
I just watched this last night. It is a very sad film to watch. I worried what will happen to Jon someday after his parents can't take care of him anymore. I would like to know what plans his family is making for his future. I felt as I was watching this film that it was too positive. There must be things that have happened with Jon concerning his disability that were not good. I would of liked to have seen those things get more discussion. Being that Jon has other siblings, I would have liked to have heard them talk about how their lives have been affected by his disability. I do believe that having Jon in the family has been an enriching experience for all involved. He has been a challenge to raise and to live with. He is an adult human being who is capable of feeling things and communicating in his own way with what is going on around him. However, being that the family has to think for him, that alone must eventually put a lot of strain on them that was never shown.
Today's Man (2006)
Great little film!
I thought that this was a great film about a person who is seen as different by other people but is really not that much different at all. I think that someday his condition (Aspergers Syndrome), will be better understood and people who have it will be better accepted in to the world.
His story is told in many different parts. I wondered while I was watching it how he was feeling and what he was thinking as he experienced the things that he was shown experiencing. I would of liked the film to have been an hour longer so I could have learned more about him. New York City is featured prominently in the film. This was interesting to me because it is such a big place. It can also be a socially dominating place. When one considers the fact that Aspergers Syndrome is a disorder where people who have it have problems with social skills and social interaction, I was left to wonder how he feels in that kind of environment.
I hope that a follow up film is made someday because I would like to see how his life has progressed since the events in this film.
Saving Grace (2007)
Great Show
I like this show. It is very well done. What makes it what it is are the scenes between Holly Hunter and Leon Rippy. I like watching them interact with one another because so much real emotion comes out of it. The rest of the cast is great too. It is well written and well directed. I hope that it has a long run on TNT and I hope that the acting, writing and directing stay original. Grace is such an interesting character to watch. She has the viewer rooting for her at some points in the storyline and at other times she has them feeling bad for her. It is hard to decide whether you like her or hate her. It will be interesting to see where it all goes.
