King on New York
19 May 2024
As a diehard New York Rangers & Henrik Lundqvist fan; this documentary exceeded expectations. Beyond being a fantastic look at Hanks career and what he meant to New York - there is such a positive message about perseverance & mental health.

To someone who isn't a Rangers fan, the term 'King of New York' may have come as a surprise without a cup. However this documentary exemplifies why Hank earned that title & what he did for Rangers fans & New York as a whole.

The journey through his Goaltending career reminded me how much joy, heartbreak & thrills his time encapsulated - growing up with Hank defining what it meant to be a Ranger.

Highly recommend to all hockey and sports fans. Seeing that all humans struggle with the same things - & watching Hank face those challenges - leaves you uplifted and inspired.

Doesn't Add Much

Warning: Spoilers
Found myself asking - do we really need this? Morgan is not a very redeeming character & did not love seeing her be the new inception of the Tie-Defender program.

The Barriss story was a bit better - but was really hoping to get more of the Inquisitors; their training and plights - rather than a redemption arc.

I know this will be polarizing but also didn't need the pronoun thing being snuck into a potentially kids cartoon. But that's neither here nor there in my rating - Just something some parents might want to be aware of.

Was nice to have something for May the 4th but found myself wishing I rewatched Tales of the Jedi instead.

Feels like a parody of itself...
3 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Where has the Disney of old gone? I know this is a children's movie; but when you compare this to Hercules, Mulan & other projects from the studio we love... this falls flat.

The music is good but feels forced and made before the movie. (Also enough with the Hamilton rap musical style number. - it's been done 100x & is beyond played out)

The main character is fine but the supporting cast is nothing more than memes and callouts.

Have fun waiting 45min it's for any sort of call to adventure.

My biggest problem with the whole movie was the villain. He has this mysterious past in this tapestry hinting at why he's made bad decisions trying to do good. However this is never explored as Disney is just interested in toppling another Patriarchy.

The callouts a meta-ness of the movie are cringe. Considering this is the movie to celebrate 100 years I am embarrassed for Disney.

Pleasantly Surprised - Fun Last Ride
4 July 2023
Went into this film expecting not to like it... but really enjoyed the final send off for Indy.

Feels like they tried to stick with what worked in the original films while also making a fun summer blockbuster. I'm glad Indy gets to hang up his hat here - rather than Crystal Skull.

The nostalgia was present and they hit the delicate "campiness" level of Indiana Jones for me.

Thought the supporting cast was great and really helped drive home the more emotional moments.

The set pieces were excellent and enjoyed the locational shooting. Thought it was smart how Indy was still cool and tough while playing into his age.

Overall I'm happy to have this movie and have Indy's journey end here. Great job to the cast.

Extremely Disappointing - Could have been more
18 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
While Antman & the Wasp May not be the worst Marvel movie; it is definitely the most disappointed I've been this far.

The stakes were set and I spent days beforehand trying to figure out how Antman would make it out of this alive. I was ready for loss. That Infinity War like surprise of defeat...

Unfortunately tho, all gravitas is instantly sucked out of this movie just as the characters are sucked in to CGI wonderland 20min in.

I knew something was off from the jump when Cassie Lang starts her new introduction as a character talking about terrible cops (even tho her adopted father was a good one) and preaching to the screen about homelessness (which is a serious issue) However getting this so early and from a new actress in the roll & our first introduction to the 'Stinger' going forward; just felt like politicking shoved down my mouth right off the jump.

The rest is downhill from there with boring side plots with goofy CGI characters. I felt myself disliking them all because they were all so shallow and computer in nature. Juxtapose this with say the Guardians Christmas Special - where I loved every alien actor in their crazy and unique costumes. I'm gonna miss you James Gunn.

At this point rather than being met with awe your still left lost as the stakes are so low. There's this looming threat you know is Kang but Janet slowly and painfully reveals this through flashbacks. All of which left me wishing this was a Kang movie in the way that Infinity war is really a Thanos movie.

Johnathan Majors is incredible as Kang. However at no point did I feel the weight of it. I keep sitting there waiting to see this monster of man with the cunning that kept Tony Stark alive all those year. Alas we are left disappointed as Kang forgets his psychic abilities and gets his ass kicked by Paul Rudd.. I mean Antman.

Poor Wasp is so relegated to a plot device in the movie that I could barely stand watching her. She just shows up to solve the problem in the last moment with no meaningful purpose.

And this point in the review I would think this would be enough to encourage Marvel to slow down and look at things more closely... but we haven't even mentioned MODOK. Yikes....

Whoever worked on the CGI for Ironman 1 would be ashamed. Asides from his shoddy look. He is a complete joke with no real path as to why. I get that he has gone mad but this is the same man who killed all those little sheep... & goooed his coworker. Not to mention tried to kill a child. Now he's strictly a crazy joke that looks so terribly weird.

I can keep going...but I'll just leave it at this:

The movie shocked me. I was left sitting there like really? Did they really just release this. This is the next Thanos?!

PS- I'm also terrified now how they will handle secret wars. Kang replacing Doom already was gut punch.

Unlikeable & Mean - with a nice zero regard for Scooby Doo
12 February 2023
This is arguably one of the worst shows I've ever seen. Never before have a seen a protagonist who is constantly cruel & useless. None of the jokes land and they all isolate and patronize any potential audience who may enjoy this show.

The show serves as a pointless IP grab where the writers get revenge for all the mean things that were said to them as kids. However they are being equally as mean as adults.

This is the vicious cycle that this show use as its model for every episode.

The random pop culture references are cringeworthy & the animation leaves much to be desired.

It appears as if this show was green lighted just to trigger as many people as possible.

Fun popcorn flick - So bad... it's enjoyable.
22 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Fun popcorn flick but man is the story / writing awful. Turn off your brain, sit back & enjoy.

The action is fun & the actors really did their best but charisma holds this completely bonkers story in check.

The third act literally comes out no where. Grabbed some popcorn and we teleported. Enjoyed the action and the jokes actually landed. Found myself laughing more though at the more serious scenes and how poorly they landed.

Was definitely a little cringe watching a Samoan man portraying someone from the Middle East as KANYE WEST blasts in the background. Poor timing given what's going on with his grossly insensitive comments.

Expecting disappointment. Pleasantly surprised

With the way Lightyear was reviewed I was expecting it to be terrible. On the contrary. It was a ton of fun!! Animation was stellar and the story was simple yet meaningful. Sox the cat stole the show.

Rescue Rangers: Modern Sequel to Roger Rabbit
21 May 2022
It's not often that Disney pokes fun at themselves; but when they do once a decade it has amazing results. Rescue Rangers feels like a homage / modern sequel to Roger Rabbit. The animation is fantastic. The cameos featuring Disneys biggest competition in the industry is amazing and harkens back to seeing Mickey & Bugs Bunny interacting. Very fun watch. Comedy lands genuinely for most of the movie.

Generic action with zero regard to Halo lore

As a halo fan this show is an insult to what made the series great. As a Sci-fi fan this show comes off hollow and boring. Skip it for your own benefit.

Great series with an unsatisfactory ending
15 May 2022
Ozark is a wild ride but one that will leave you unsatisfied in the end. Great show that never found it's footing in the home stretch. Characters don't have much in ways of redemption that makes the final push a bit of a slog.

James Gunn does it AGAIN!
16 January 2022
A comic book jumping off the screen. Enjoying everything about this show so far from the acting to the scoring to the casting. James Gunn always finds the true treasure in misfits. Hoping the rest of the season stays equal to this caliber.

The most real down to earth look at what it means to work in the music industry. Dave makes me laugh harder and feel more than any show on television.

Great potential...dropped ball. Will still watch the sequels tho
29 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So overall this movie wasnt the worst...but like many Warner's bros films seems like it was destroyed in the boardroom. Choosing a new lead not from the games was almost as bad a decision as "Taven" or "Meat". New Lead (who's name I cant remember even a day later) seemed way to cookie cuter. His "super powers" (another big dropped ball for me) looked like a man in a rubber suit with claw arms. Why so many weapons. Give me the kung fu / karate first fights. The whole super power thing seemed to fall in with the new trope of having to explain everything in films. I much rather some mystery of where these extraordinary people became extraordinary. The high points were most certainly the first 7minutes + Kung Lao and Liu Kang. The fatalities and "flawless victory" were great fan service moments. Aside from the rubber suit at the end, CG & costumes looked great for most of the movie.

The train derails fast
30 December 2020
This movie has a great visual feel. Unfortunately after the first 15-20 minutes - it gets so convoluted it's nearly impossible to care or follow what's going on. Comedy is cringeworthy & the CG looks extremely cheesy in high action sequences.

17 August 2020
Didn't take any care to the lore. Huge plot holes. Main villain just a rewash & makes no sense. No originality. Ignore this trilogy for the real story that took care and heart & wasn't a cash grab.
