Toy Story of Terror! (2013)
A perfect holiday tradition
Toy Story of Terror is a wonderful throwback to the days when the networks put out original annual holiday programming for the entire family. Those days are gone with streaming but you can still curl up on the couch with kiddos and enjoy. This installment is a wonderful compliment to the series. Great writing, music, animation and plot. And very funny with jokes for viewers of all ages. Woody and the gang make a pit stop to a motel when Bonnie and her mom get a flat tire. There they encounter a skeevy motel manager who wants to sell the toys on "eBid." Also introduces some great new characters like Combat Carl (voiced by Carl Weathers). Definitely make this part of your Halloween tradition.
Fuller House (2016)
A unexpected surprise. Full House is all grown up.
Watched all 13 episodes last night and I was pleasantly surprised. After the show spent the first 10 minutes mugging and winking to the camera, getting all the catch phrases out of the way, something interesting happened.. It got pretty good.
Candace Cameron-Bure and Jodie Sweetin were very good reprising their roles, and really added some interesting growth and Andrea Barber, AKA Kimmy Gibbler, was really as good as it gets in the sitcom acting world, marrying the adult version with the obnoxious character we remember from 20 years ago.
A very solid supporting cast, along with some adult humor you would not expect (pot brownies, boob jokes and a joke about the infamous Alanis Morissette song about a certain Full House cast member) made for a sitcom that honestly could have been in the same lineup as Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother. Was some of it sugary sweet? Of course, but it was always tongue in cheek, like they were laughing at themselves.
I laughed a lot and didn't expect it to be more than a bare minimum effort cash grab. I was wrong. I do recommend it, whether you watched the original or not, it was a solid sitcom, better than 90% of what is on TV right now.
The critics should "Have Mercy" on this one.
