Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments (2016)
I've done a u turn - Show has now improved drastically!
After watching the major arcana episode my opinion of the series has now changed! I take it back!
I wanted to give this a chance but I wasn't hopeful after the ropey hooker costumes, ridiculous vampire characters (NB the actress who plays camille!!), bad acting, stupid sfx and the purile script.
Despite some horrifically bad episodes previously, the show judging from this episode has found its feet, with decent set pieces, humour and pace! Yay. I think another user mentioned Buffy and that we had to forgive the first few episodes, To this end I waited before reviewing and I totally agree with their point.
I can't wait for next weeks episode, I'm really looking forward to seeing "clace" play out great to see some good one liners from the less winney and sassier clary, not to mention the chemistry between the 2. Keen to see more Malec too! One thing I cannot stomach though, please ditch the ridiculous camille and her sidekick vampire mate Raoul is it?... So embarrassing and poorly acted! My verdict, now you've been warned give it a go 😀
Chewing Gum (2015)
Really enjoying this so far! Simple, uncomplicated fun!
Simple, light comedy, with toilet humour, sex jokes and filthy laughs! You end up loving the. character and her hapless boyfriend. You find yourself rooting for them both. I can't wait to see what's next for them, great comic timing and chemistry from them when they are in scenes together.
The ex is also hilarious! I'd love more set pieces with Connor, Tracey, and the ex! The actress/writer is clearly talented throwing herself unashamedly into physical slapstick situations. You have to laugh out loud during the opening recap when Connor is shoved into nearby grundon esq bins!
I've reached episode 5 already, and I would recommend it as totally relaxing, uncomplicated and funny viewing. I would love another series.
More please!
Atlantis (2013)
Highly recommended Saturday night family fun!
This series is fabulous, it doesn't take itself seriously so I can't understand the beef about historical inaccuracy. Working in the professional curatorial heritage industry I would welcome any interpretation of history. After all, if a TV program sparks public interest in mythology then why not!? Is this not the point?, if audiences want to find the real stories then they can research the tales themselves. I believe it replaces a hole in the market for family fun comedy drama. I loved Merlin but it was time for a change and I actually think I prefer this. OK, so the woodland scenes are not high budget, but does this effect the story, I would disagree. I certainly think the recent 2 part episode really has shown a week on week improvement. Acting wise, Mark Addy provides excellent comic relief and Jack Donnelly provides a more thoughtful hero. Well done BBC more episodes please!
