The Sandman (2022)
One of the most entertaining shows I have watched in a while
I really enjoy the show. I find it grotesque and surprisingly twisted. Quite refreshing to watch a show which is kind of a kitchen sink of everything. As a dark fantasy show, I appreciate many disturbing moments but also several tender thought-provoking moment as well. My favorite episode is "The Sound of Her Wings" which is such a contrast compared to the previous episode which was quite unexpected.
Admittedly, I do not read the comics but I frankly don't care. I think it's important to watch the show with an open mind instead with a "prejudice" on what the show must look like because you read the source material which seems to be the case for many comments here. The show is BASED on the comics but never an exact copy of comics. The differences between platforms and medium will always generate changes compared to the original source and that's rather expected. It would be hard pressed to find any movies/shows out there follows the source materials exactly. The question is how much and that's up to the creators.
I personally enjoy the diversity that the show displayed. It is 2022 and a role can be played by anyone and I find it is ridiculous to fixate on what gender/sexual orientation the characters/actors are. As long as they did the role justice, that's all it matters. I thought the casting was good and all actors did a good job. There weren't any seriously badly-acted roles that I noticed. I particularly enjoyed watching David Thewlis and Sarah Niles. Their scenes together were really fascinating.
I hope there will be more seasons.
The Sandman: 24/7 (2022)
The most grotesque and disturbing TV episode I have watched in years
Wow, what an episode. Starting out quite slow. Just a bit creepy and perhaps psychotic but then really exploded with insanity in the middle. I was gasping multiple times as there were some surprisingly twisted moments that I totally didn't see them coming. Of course, the ending was "dreamy" (pun intended).
Overall, the episode was truly grotesque and disturbing which is just wonderful. It's not easy to maintain the suspension that well through the whole 1-hour episode. Well-done.
Heartstopper (2022)
A uplifting show that overloads you with sweet moments
I didn't even know the show existed until someone told me that he was crying over it. Not sure he cried but surely the show was great.
I thought the show was superbly acted. The two leads really create such a sweet and innocent relationship. I enjoy how they project a slight awkwardness that actually made their dialogue and interaction real. I gotta admit there are some moments that are very sweet and make me feel old like a dinosaur.
I get that the main theme of the show is LGBT coming-of-age romance but I find it is a great show about acceptance, friendship and self-discovery.
I hope it will get renewed for a second season.
