Deca na sonceto (2014)
Story about love
'Children of the Sun', a film that tells the story of a family who are forced to leave their home, as they have crossed one of the local mob's interests, and start life all over again. Big hopes are put on teenage daughter Angela to save them by marrying a prosperous - but more than twice her age - man, but Angela has a secret life with her true love, the dangerous gangster Marko. This is a story about love, trust, sacrifice, betrayal and redemption. All these ideas are presented by charismatic characters, excellently portrayed by a talented cast.
Black Ruby (2017)
Forbidden Fruits
The mates of Jules and Louis are picking the forbidden apple from the tree of good and evil not sure what they're truly embarking upon when each take a bite out of Ruby, the black harlot or as the tale calls her Black Ruby a forbidden gem. Interesting that the black hustler Quazy who set's up the street fights in the movie narrates the entire film. Good choice.
The film could have upped the sex, upped the dialogues and upped the performances. Though, the subtlety works and the artsy approach of moods and silent performances with a dab of violence secure the film. I fathom sexually I wouldn't want to see Jules Mandel, the fat waster, he is played by Joseph Mennella have erotic dealings, his 5 second awkward chubby bang was enough. Louis Katz played by Zachary Laoutides reminded me of French film flashes, he sells the sexuality with his face to a rather numb and bland Ruby, played by Krystal Heredia. I can't justify why she was so expressionless in the film, but maybe it was her character choice, but a little too distant for me to care.
The soundtrack made by Manchester's own Liam Williams is stellar and award worthy. Any Brando similarities should be attributed to Zachary Laoutides. Joseph Mennella will disappoint you if you think he is anything close to Brando or even expressions the classical looker. I can conclusively see the Montgomery Clift comparison to Laoutides, he is a unusual actor who understands silence and expressions.
This film is full of forbidden fruits because they break the guidelines in film, but that is why the film was liked, applauded and nominated. Audiences like rule breakers.
Blood Money (2017)
I like this film very much!
A dark and intense thriller. Great cast of young actors and a gripping and well written script. Some really scary moments. Had a real feel of Hitchcock crossed with Shallow Grave. Really enjoyed it and highly recommend. My friend and my family watch this film and all of them appreciate it. Watch it by daylight....
Bane v Superman: The Movie (2016)
Actually pretty good
I have to say that I'm glad I caught this one. I wasn't ecstatic when it finished but it did have some hooks that surprised me and I did appreciate it. It's basically a thinly veiled story to accomplish a couple of fight scenes and some impressions. The special effects were actually legit. If you can make a fan film that's better than most of the old Batman or Superman movies that's hardly really saying much. A number of those actual movies were just terrible.
Fan films are getting kind of common and over done. This one has a little bit more polish than most even if it is a bit long. However if you're a really fan who digs this kind of thing I doubt the running time will be an issue.
Keith Stahle writes and directs this fan salute that seems to like the idea of spot lighting some favorite aspects from the old movies and slamming it into one. The guy who played Bane looked really cool and I wanted him to talk more. Unfortunately this whole thing is kind of a predictable excuse to see a quick fight scene with Superman having no powers. Which I get I guess. Special Effects Superman is hard when your flying shots look only slightly more evolved than the 1950's TV show. Still it's kind of trite until Joker and Harley steal the show. I have to say I liked a lot of the Joker-Harley relationship better in this than in Suicide Squad, that's for sure. The Clark Kent was definitely the Superman pretending to be a klutz version which was fun to see as it's completely void in the Cavill version. I wish this movie was the tour DE force Bane with venom powers versus Superman with Super- powers. Could even go for some krypton or other weapon at some point. Alas this is not the right budget to accomplish that. If you can get over that expectation it is quite watchable. I liked it more often then I didn't. There's a weird twist in Clark's perspective in the way he views Lana that is actually pretty Trippe and I wonder if most people will pick up on it. He seems to be fixated on a past incarnation of her instead of seeing her as she is. The multiple part casting in the guy and girl leads make for some wacky parallels between Clark/Lana/Lois and then to Joker and Harley cause it's all the same actor and actress talking back and forth. It makes the movie a little different and slightly more memorable than most and I'm sure some people won't think of the parallel implications that I did. I didn't mind it cause it made me think about some similarities between the good and evil characters and therefore served as an original dynamic if you view it with some insight. My advise is check this one out. If you don't expect too much from it you might not be let down.
Nobody's Perfect (2016)
A Surprisingly Great Story
Derrick Simmons. Derrick Simmons. Derrick Simmons. I had to laugh because his name is all over the credits. I almost didn't watch this movie because I've never heard of him. But after googling him, I decided to time I give this low budget indie film a chance. I'm glad I did. Great story. Nice cast. Derrick is super talented. Most of his credits come from a stunts background, but it seems he's a good director, writer, producer and strong seasoned actor. Definitely the real deal. I am a new fan. This film Nobody's Perfect shows you can't judge a book by it's cover. I'm glad I didn't. The reward was watching one entertaining movie from a rising star. I look forward to seeing more Derrick Simmons Films in the future.
Adios Vaya Con Dios (2014)
Deep details in Crime
What I appreciated most about Adios Vaya Con Dios was the careful attention to the details with the ensemble of criminals in the film. The movie plays like an artistic documentary following Rory King, played by writer Zachary Laoutides in a typical week inside the Chicago neighborhoods. The story takes an authentic approach and achieves what it set out to accomplish, to make us feel we are always in journey with Rory. At times it's fun being a fly on the wall, being intrigued by the details of crime and the intricate characters Laoutides creates.
Gio Angeli, played by Joseph Mennella, one the few Italians left in the neighborhood that desperately tries to hold grips on a fading dynasty, efforts to flex his muscles while his father is locked up in Jail. Rory's cousin Maurice, played by Michael Hammond, a police officer who is racially mixed like himself, whose corruption runs deep not from his Mexican roots, rather his Irish family. These are just a few of the diverse casts that makes Adios Vaya Con Dios a smart film demanding we pay close attention from the opening scene where Spanish Narration gives us extra intelligence on what Rory King is contemplating as he strains to figure out his exit strategy.
Although we may sense the film can be overly artistic at stretches you need to applaud the artistic choices as the film takes the genre of urban, gangster and Latino and in its place prepares the experience as organic and alternative. It's a dish that works and a tale worth revisiting if the story of an Irish Mexican finds his way back again into the callous mean streets.
Monsters, Inc. (2001)
A Great Funny Movie
When the movie started I was happy and when it was over I was sad. The movie was extremely entertaining. It was funny, it was touching and it was all perfectly combined to make one hell of a movie. They have made a great movie for families and kids. Something that mom and dad can enjoy watching, but that the kids will find fun too.
The story line has something for everyone to enjoy, there's no kind of person I can think of that would not find this film to be somewhat enjoyable! As far as the comedy goes, no other movie lately has made me laugh quite as much! It is truly a great movie, watch it, Every Body should to see this movie.
Toy Story (1995)
A Great Funny Movie
I sat down to watch this movie again - and was totally blown away. It actually pretty scary for a child movie. Sid is one of the best villains I've ever seen and Woody's jealousy is really well done. The emotions and characters in the movie are complex and satisfying to watch. I can see the point of those people who complain about it being too scary for their kids - I'd say don't watch this with under five year old unless your child is a horror junkie.
My sister who is five still gets scared by the scenes in Sid's room. However, overall this is one of my favorite child movies and well worth a watch, it doesn't matter how old you are.
Men in Black (1997)
Funny and Great movie
Men in Black was one of my favorite Hollywood blockbusters of the '90s. Watching this movie now, it has lost none of its charm. You have to love these two stars. Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith are amazing. They are a great duo on screen. These two are awesome and you can tell they enjoyed working with each other. This movie is explosive, fast paced, thoughtful, humorous, original, and even at times wise. Final point, get this movie, you won't be disappointed.
As the movie progresses you learn more about how the MIB work through the eyes of agent J(Will Smith) who is a new recruit. Who does a great job with his role while adding a bit of humor into the mix. Agent K(Tommy Lee Jone) is the really serious one of the two and takes his job very very seriously and is always serious. But the pair works well in this movie. Overall this is a fun sci-fi movie that doesn't take itself too seriously and for the most part it works.
Dawn of the Dead (2004)
This movie is one of my favorites
I love zombie movies but this one takes the cake. I really like the action and how tense this movie is. The environment is nothing new, it'a a mall but for me you can't go wrong with that. It is a classic ! One good thing is the cast, they are very good. The movie it is really good, because of the style it has. The film got the right amount of gore and brutality, not too much, not to little.
I saw some people saying that this movie is really scary, if you don't like horror movies MAYBE. I don't know where this film is really scary, there are some scenes where you maybe jump a bit but it's not that bad. If you want to see a good zombie and horror movie, this one is for you. This movie is for everyone- Everything but that, TOP ! This movie is one of my favorites.
Waterfall 1: No Words, No Sex, Just Relax (2014)
My mind is racing
Lately I find it difficult to fall asleep, my mind is racing and I can't stop thinking about random stuff. I've tried lots of solutions but found out that sounds of nature are my keys to a good sleep. Instead of laying in bed for hours I can fall asleep in just a few minutes. I love that the producer went to such awesome places to film this. But to be honest I never saw or heard this film till the end because I fell asleep before it is over. I will have this playing for sleep till I die.
If you love Nature then you'll love the gentle soothing sounds of this wonderful film. Recommend watching!
The Avengers (2012)
I loved it Immediately
First saw this movie around 4 month ago and i loved it immediately. I think this was my very first Superhero movie I saw and I gotta say, I liked it. This is a movie with a plot and actors. Which is something That has never be done i think. At least i never saw anything like that. The actors are really good in my opinion. My initial concerns were about how the movie would live up to this enormous hype it had built up.
Surprisingly enough, it exceeded my expectations in a good way. The story and dialog was created with full blown Hollywood style treatment, but enjoyable and sometimes very funny. The character development was also strong, something that most directors cannot handle due to the fact that making 7 superheroes individually stand out is pretty difficult. But hey, Joss Whedon did it, so I give huge credit and respect for it. Anyways, long words short, in my opinion this was a good movie that lived up to its hype.
