Michael Moore in TrumpLand (2016)
Low quality jokes with poorly informed politics
Moore is not a comedian. Throughout the film you will see attempts at comedy that really don't measure up spliced in between hyperbole and misleading half-truths.
Michael Moore has always had a political agenda however in the past he has used this to shine light onto the human side of an issue and critique the establishment. While I always disliked his heavy bias in his documentaries I admired the fact that he did take the establishment on head on. It wasn't always perfect but it opened the discussion.
This on the other hand seems to be a poorly written cash grab or political propaganda or both. He misleadingly examines the issues and will present half truths to make an argument. Truly a shame.
To best illustrate this documentary take his argument about the 4 million petition to redo the vote. He posits these are millions of BRexiters that wish to undo their vote when in reality it was a poll largely manipulated by individuals outside of the United Kingdom (to the tone of 70% or more of signatures) and that those that signed were primarily far left anti-democracy totalitarians that believe in the notion of making the people vote until they give you the answer you personally desire. Of the people who voted for BRexit only 6% regret their vote which is far from the picture he paints where a horde of peasants is too stupid to vote correctly or understand the ramifications of voting to leave the European Union.
Sing Street (2016)
Absolutely charming
This movie is absolutely charming.
Do not let the heavy focus on music in the summary fool you. It isn't musical.
It is a charming movie similar in spirit to Moonrise Kingdom following the romance of two young people who are learning about themselves, each other and the wider world.
The characters seem like real people and it instills that joy for life and makes you remember the people you have loved and the ways you might have met and courted them.
In the sea of Hollywood flops and Hollywood blockbusters this movie stands out. It's a new and original spin on the old story of boy meets girl.
Ghostbusters (2016)
Turned out exactly as awful as one would have expected.
It comes as no surprise to me that a movie that selected on the lines of genitalia instead of merit was as large a disappointment as this one.
I went ahead and gave it the benefit of the doubt and watched it with an open mind but it really is just a terrible movie that tarnishes the franchise.
It is the Ghostbuster series Diablo 3: A forced iteration likely conceived by marketing executives instead of creative individuals. The product ends up being an uninspired, watered-down version of the original. Selling out a beloved series to make a quick buck.
Ender's Game (2013)
Poor and flawed beyond redemption
I could not recommend this movie to anyone.
Usually I feel very strongly about not giving movies minimum marks since every movie usually has something to redeem other areas that are lackluster however this movie has none.
The plot is disjointed, the casting is poor, the messages are tackily plastered on and the concept is poorly thought out.
Every second of this movie you will have the urge to skip ahead in hopes that the CGI space fights will redeem it. When you finally reach them their flawed execution will only aggravate you further.
If there was the option to give a zero this movie truly would deserve it. In fact this movie warrants the adaptation of the rating system so that zero is a score you can give.
As a closing note: as someone who has played computer games (or as they call it in the movie simulations) No you cannot control spaceships light years away in real time ever heard of ping. No you cannot control that many units and hope to win the scenario with 10 actions per minute. I wished that the writers had actually done any research into gaming and professional gaming. They would quickly have noted that ping above a few seconds usually renders one hopeless and helpless i.e.: GGWP and that to compete merely controlling a small army on a map possibly 1/100th the scale of the mentioned battlefield one usually needs approximately 300 actions per minute.
To the writers: n00bs uninstall.
