Battlestar Galactica (2004–2009)
More than your average Sci-Fi for more than your average Sci-Fi viewer
30 June 2008
Firstly i would like to point out that i will comment on the series as a stand-alone series and not a remake. Partly because, from what I've read, it has little in common with the original but mostly because it encompasses more aspects than any other show to date.

I choose to not call this show Sci-Fi, i choose to call it a Drama with Sci-Fi influences. A not so ordinary and hard to follow Drama but an immersing one that has this uncanny ability to compel the viewer to ask 'Would i do the same?' rather than 'Is this right or wrong?'. You get involved with the crew, feel anger, sadness, joy and relief (although rarely so because the pressure almost never ceases) and viewers would be hard pressed to find something in an episode that does not link with the rest of the series or that does not add to the intended atmosphere.

Another important upside is the lack of technological explanations (or the need for them) and of glittery and futuristic weapons and technologies. All you have are normal display devices, bullets, explosives, batteries and nukes.

The story is indeed slow paced but any other pace would take away from the other main attractions of the show which are composed of social, political, religious and philosophical issues. Don't get me wrong, though, the story is brilliant and also stirs curiosity and keeps you wondering for days.

It has its faults, of course, but they have little significance to the show.

All in all this is one of the best shows I've ever seen and can hardly wait for the fifth (and apparently final) season.

The Godfather (1972)
7/10
Good but not the greatest movie by far
20 July 2006
The first thing i have to say is that it's way too long and you can barely get through it, part of this is because there are too many extended scenes in it. Granted it's a good movie, but not by any chance the best movie ever made and not better than The Shawshank Redemption (i'm comparing it to Shawshank because they are the 2 leading movies in the IMDb top). The acting is great, the script is good and the directing is OK, but that doesn't make it the best movie ever made. There's almost no foreshadowing in it, there are no major twists in the plot thus making the storyline actually a straight line and there's nothing in the movie that surprises you. When i watched it i was at the edge of boredom and was hoping something would show up in that movie that would pull me back. It's true that it was a very daring movie at the time, but still that alone doesn't make a movie great.

Eureka (2006–2012)
7/10
Left me wanting for more
19 July 2006
Warning: Spoilers
The idea is interesting and gives the writers a world of opportunities, although they could have found a better explanation for Eureka and some parts were a little too odd and stereotyped (i.e. the guy getting off at a DNA).

The actor playing Jack Carter was very well picked and the character himself is the usual cynical and witty type that you see in sci-fi series.

Basically the pilot was very good and introduced the world (in this case Eureka) very well.

In any case i'll be waiting for the rest of the series with enthusiasm.

PS: congratulations to the Eureka crew, you've done a great job.

worst than any other bad bad BAD movie you've ever seen
21 April 2006
Warning: Spoilers
OK, this movie is so boring, ooooooooh sooooooooo boring.... no no you don't get it it's SO BORING IT HURTS!!!!!! it gave everyone i watched it with headaches...we actually started to bite our fingers just to have something to do... it physically hurts.... only thing i paid attention to were the MST3K comments.... and the dancing, ooooh the dancing. Basically it's about everything else other than what it's supposed to be about. Girl hooks up with dude turned drug dealer, young dashing bohemian dude drags along and becomes the janitor/songwriter in the club the aforementioned girl was... hmpfff... dancing. YOU'RE LIVING A LIE, YOU DANCE LIKE A CLOWN (more like a COW), I HOPE THAT YOU DIE! i mean c'mon, Steven Hawking dances better...

My advice, never ever ever EVER try to watch it outside of MST3K.
