Firstly i would like to point out that i will comment on the series as a stand-alone series and not a remake. Partly because, from what I've read, it has little in common with the original but mostly because it encompasses more aspects than any other show to date.
I choose to not call this show Sci-Fi, i choose to call it a Drama with Sci-Fi influences. A not so ordinary and hard to follow Drama but an immersing one that has this uncanny ability to compel the viewer to ask 'Would i do the same?' rather than 'Is this right or wrong?'. You get involved with the crew, feel anger, sadness, joy and relief (although rarely so because the pressure almost never ceases) and viewers would be hard pressed to find something in an episode that does not link with the rest of the series or that does not add to the intended atmosphere.
Another important upside is the lack of technological explanations (or the need for them) and of glittery and futuristic weapons and technologies. All you have are normal display devices, bullets, explosives, batteries and nukes.
The story is indeed slow paced but any other pace would take away from the other main attractions of the show which are composed of social, political, religious and philosophical issues. Don't get me wrong, though, the story is brilliant and also stirs curiosity and keeps you wondering for days.
It has its faults, of course, but they have little significance to the show.
All in all this is one of the best shows I've ever seen and can hardly wait for the fifth (and apparently final) season.
