Animal (2023)
Animal (2023): A Blood-Soaked Opera of Vengeance, Where Morality Gets Tangoed by Bullets
Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal isn't a movie, it's a three-hour adrenaline enema disguised as a gangster epic. It's a hyper-stylized ballet of vengeance, where violence pirouettes with operatic flair and morality gets tangoed by bullets under neon spotlights. Calling it entertaining is like saying the Grand Canyon is "a neat ditch;" it's an experience that pummels your senses, leaving you gasping for air and debating whether to call an ambulance or book a front-row seat for the encore.
Ranbir Kapoor sheds his boyish charm like a cobra molting its skin to embody Jung Bahadur Singh, a man whose love for his gangster father curdles into molten rage after a betrayal that would make Shakespeare jealous. Kapoor is a revelation, his eyes smoldering with manic intensity, every move a predator calculating its next pounce. This isn't your typical hero's journey; Jung is an anti-hero dipped in acid, his righteousness as twisted as a pretzel dipped in cyanide.
Vanga, who also wrote the story, crafts a narrative that's as labyrinthine as a Mobius strip lined with razor blades. Timelines fold and unfold like origami in a hurricane, past and present tangoing on a dance floor slick with betrayal. The story itself isn't exactly groundbreaking - family, betrayal, revenge, the usual mafia bingo - but it's the execution that makes Animal a disco ball in hell. Vanga paints his canvas with a lurid palette of violence, each action sequence a blood-soaked ballet choreographed by Tarantino on his angriest day. Bullets pirouette in slow-motion, arterial spray paints the screen in crimson, and every bone crack resonates with a sickening satisfaction that's oddly poetic.
Yet, amidst the operatic carnage, Vanga throws in unexpected grace notes of tenderness. Jung's relationship with his mother (Rashmika Mandanna) is a heartbreaking counterpoint to his descent into darkness. Her quiet strength and unwavering love offer a glimpse of the man Jung might have been, had fate not dealt him a hand with more aces than a Vegas backroom. These moments, though fleeting, are like finding a rose blooming in a graveyard, offering a much-needed emotional breather before the next shotgun symphony.
Animal is a sensory feast for the brave. Cinematographer Eero Saarinen bathes the Mumbai underworld in neon and smoke, creating a visually intoxicating atmosphere that's equal parts Scorsese and Lynch. The pulsating score by Amit Trivedi is the film's emotional heartbeat, driving the narrative forward with a rhythm that makes your pulse quicken and your feet tap, even as your brain screams "danger zone!" Every element, from the meticulously designed costumes that drip with gangster swagger to the visceral sound design that makes every bullet impact feel like a punch to the gut, works in concert to create a world that is both seductive and utterly unforgiving.
However, Animal isn't for everyone. The unrelenting violence might feel like a Tarantino marathon on fast-forward for some, while the film's operatic tone and melodrama could make even Al Pacino raise an eyebrow. The narrative's complexity can be as tangled as a Mob accountant's spreadsheets, and the three-hour runtime might test the patience of viewers seeking a quick action fix.
But for those willing to surrender to its audacious vision, Animal is a cinematic rollercoaster that leaves you feeling like you just rode a dragon made of pure adrenaline. It's a film that provokes discussion and challenges expectations. It's not perfect, but its flaws are mere brushstrokes on a canvas that pulsates with raw energy and emotional resonance. Vanga has crafted a film that is as unapologetically brutal as it is undeniably entertaining, a modern gangster epic that announces him as a filmmaker unafraid to push boundaries and leave audiences breathless, even if they're gasping for air through a mixture of awe and terror.
So, strap in, grab your metaphorical bulletproof vest, and dive into the blood-soaked opera of Animal. Just be prepared to emerge shaken, stirred, and utterly enthralled by the savage beauty of this cinematic beast.
Brahmastra Part One: Shiva (2022)
3 star for SRK, Nagarujuna and Good VFX.
Good thing about this movies are good vfx. The action scenes of SRK and Nagarjuna was good.
But writer forgot to put a good story line. First hour is wasted on love story which does nothing to carry the story. Ranbir Kapoor does a good job of his natural acting. But the action sequence of Ranbir Kapoor looks very like fire spaghetti. Actions don't have any meaning. They just happen.
The motivation of villain in this movie isn't clear. The writer tried to inspire from Lord of the Ring. Where people fear Sauron without showing his true nature. In this movie writer couldn't do that. Writer made the villain Brahmadev to be fearful like Sauron. But failed.
Instead we feel like lots of things going on but the people who is watching the movie have no idea what is going on.
To sum up the movie we still don't know what the story was, what the story is.
Janhit Mein Jaari (2022)
good first 30 min. than it went downhill.
Comedy isn't that funny. Storyline isn't great. Writing is aweful.
A bad movie with good social awareness. They tried to give good massage. But writing is bad.
It turns preachy, like on-the-nose preachy.
Good performance by all actors. Nushrat's best performance so far.
The absurdity always rings truer than the preaching.
It's a shame to witness it dig itself into a hole by the second half.
The film is so inclined towards humour that the serious core ends up being the silly and disposable part.
This brave Bollywood film about condoms ends up in a lecture...
The film is so inclined towards humour that the serious core ends up being the silly and disposable part.
Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kaadhal (2022)
Good Movie
If you have enjoyed Govinda's two wives movie. You will enjoy this.
People who says this is male fantasy. Should know that there's no item song. Or super action scenes.
Dhaakad (2022)
Hindi Movie of all time
Not Morbius. Kangana's Dhaakad is the movie of all time. It's box office is 80000cr inr. 3 billion ticket have been sold. The famous line is, "It's Dhaakad time".
A must movie of all time.
Gunday (2014)
troll movie
I remember this movie was review bombed by Bangladesh movie goers. Before Indians knew what imdb is. 😂
This movie started with historical inaccurate statements. But alas Bangladesh people didn't realize this wasn't first, this wasn't last. This was just another start. After this Modi's pro ultranationalist movie producers started their propaganda machine. Rewriting history with whatsapp and bollywood movies. One after another.
Let's be real. This movie total suck even if you do not count the revie bomb. Bollywood has been producing this kind of crap just because people don't have any jobs. South movie industry should release hindi dub. It will overtake Bollywood.
Sarfarosh (1999)
One of the best cop film of bollywood
This film isn't overdramatic. A very good police film. Closer to reality. Amir's one of the finest.
No action crap like other heroes.
It really has some magic which will compel you to watch this movie all over again no matter how many time you have watched this before. Awesome movie!
Sooryavanshi (2021)
Your average hate Pakistan movie
Some Pakistani terrorists, bomb blast, deshbhakti, remind muslim that indian muslim good, pakistan muslim bad etc etc.
Akshay movies are getting boring now. He is losing his touch. His comedy is bad now.
Red Notice (2021)
Ryan Reynolds carried the whole movie
The Rock and Gal Gadot are here with their boring acting. But Ryan Reynolds comic timing is good and made the whole movie enjoyable.
I even think Rock isn't fit for the roll. However the movie is entertainment packed. Generic story line with some fight scenes.
Bellbottom (2021)
Good propaganda bad execution
Well it's obvious propaganda film of rising fascism in India. Maybe bhakts will have some good time. But direction is bad. They just do things. There's no way audience can engaged in story.
Mumbai Saga (2021)
"Shootout at Wadala" second time
The movie is badly directed. Timeline jumps. You have probably watched this movie. Shootout at Wadala. Your average John Abraham action movie with yellow filter and cheesy punchline every minute.
Old (2021)
Good plot with bad writing
Starting of the movie was good. Some of the actors did bad acting. Movie gone to being stupid as the movie progress.
Ending was very very very poor. This movie had great potential. But bad writing ruined it.
Serbuan maut 2: Berandal (2014)
An action movie with good mafia script
It's rare that 2nd movie gets good script. But this second film is even better than the first one. One of the best action movie of the decade for sure.
Wrath of Man (2021)
Take popcorn and enjoy Jason Statham taking revenge
Simple plot. But execution perfect. Jason Statham classic. There's no boring scene in the whole movie. Will captivate you the whole time while unveiling the details of the plot. It's a heist movie gone good.
The Tomorrow War (2021)
Good and not boring
Typically this type of movies gets boring as time moves on. But this movie is enjoyable. Has simple plot. But action scene are good. Enjoyable action flick.
Army of the Dead (2021)
Actions are dope. But Characters are annoying.
The Alpha zombie is the best character in the movie. Dave Bautista is the killing machine. I don't understand why the writer had to bring daughter character. She was cringe.
I like horror theme of the movie. It would have been best if there were no family or daughter in the movie. Because it doesn't make sense.
Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)
Don't put human in monster movies
Everything about Monster part was good. But there were many unnecessary characters. Maybe studio tried to appeal it to children.
I liked the motivation of the scientist who created Mechagodzilla.
VFX, Sound, Action was very good.
Ludo (2020)
last half movie boring
I have watched thousands of movies; Either this is for cool kids; Or I dont understand the movie; I dont get the 10 star reviews; This movie has good directing; But story writer made a long movie; could have ended in 100 min;
Actors were great; there were many cringe scenes; But I didnt enjoy the movie; I felt like the concept was similer to De Dana Dan;
Aynabaji (2016)
A waste of talents
I am not going to give emotional review like others.
The actors themselves done a very good job in acting. This movie didn't felt like other Bangladeshi movies where it felt like a cheap production with no sense of acting.
Chanchal outperformed himself with his exceptional acting. And reminded us why he is the best leading actor/hero in Bangladesh right now.
And Cinematography is good. It stands out from the garbage films that run on theater now.
Besides these plus points, there's no plot in the movie. This movie could be told in a 15 minutes short film.
That's why I am disappointed. The movie started beautifully. But there's no story in the movie.
Commando 3 (2019)
over the top propaganda film
This is a propaganda film. I am sure it was approved and funded by the Indian govt.
I mean at the end literally the muslim guy was seen worshiping hindu style. India is the king of garbage films. Now they have started making propaganda films.
12 Strong (2018)
Poor 12 American on horseback getting smashed by Million dollar weapon of Rich Afgan Terrorists. And terrorists in their own country
Alright, This can't be more ridiculous than this.
This movie was an eye opening for me. I always enjoyed good patriotic american smashing Russian Bully in 90's movies. But now the narrative has changed it's the Terrorists Arab getting smashed by American soldier with 12 horse.
This movie really opened my eye about hollywood. All these years I have been brainwashed. Afgans are terrorists in their own country. And somehow they got million dollar weaponry and poor Americans are on Horse.
If you enjoyed this movie, then congratulations you have been successfully brainwashed.
Bloodshot (2020)
"Upgrade 2018" was better
Same old story yada yada yada... 5 star for good vfx. Predictable story line. Actually there was no story line at all.
Funny this movie has similar concept with "Upgrade" movie. But Upgrade was the best action film of 2018 in my opinion because they had the better story...
Contagion (2011)
It was boring back in the day, Now frightening as hel!
I watched the movie in 2013. It was an ok movie. Starting was good but Ending wasn't that good.
But now in 2020, it became really frightening! A real thriller in real life. Excellent movie to watch to understand the scope of the epidemic.
Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)
Terminator: Feminism. Hoped for a Robot Movie Turned out to be feminism BS!
What's next? A Gay, Black Robot movie?
Now feels like Terminator 3 Female Villain was hella good than this cringy Mexican story!
A suggestion for Studio. Continue the Terminator Salvation Story.....
The Witcher (2019)
Another Game of Thrones? No. This is Witcher. It has own folklore and Universe.
Just finished watching the season. Boy, must I say that whoever is going to watch it is in for a good one.
The casting, fight scenes and the music, wow! They've adopted many of the short stories from the first two books and they are very well thought out. Adding the background stories of Yennefer and Ciri is much appreciated. Looking forward to season 2.
Now, is it worth it? Of course, it's a nice story and Netflix weren't kidding about this one.
One thing I must say though, the show could be slightly confusing to follow when you get to midseason, before and after annotations would have been appreciated as the whole season follows two timelines (I won't spoil it).
