Interesting Retrospective
5 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Definitely amateurish but interesting to see the characters of tpb before they were fully formed. The gay conversations were unexpected and had some nuance, overall though not a lot here. Feels as though these guys can only really play one character and the overindulgent piano and excessive narration felt very student filmesque. Would recommend if you like trailer park boys but not a lot value otherwise. Glad I had the opportunity to see this nonetheless.

Yea it isn't anything revolutionary but it was fun. Definitely elevated by Nicolas Cage.

New Girl (2011–2018)

Good Mid-Tier Sitcom
8 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed watching through New Girl. The cast is likeable and the show is enjoyable. It doesn't touch on any major themes or really push the envelope in any way but it doesn't need to. The writing can be downright stupid on occasions and frustrating, particularly with Schmidt around the end of season 1 through to season 3, and the last season is complete ass which sucks because there are major plot point that occur in the last season. This leaves the ending a bit unsatisfying in my opinion.

My biggest hang up is the Cece Schmidt conflict at the end of season 1 and throughout season 2 is completely forced and stupid. They change everything about Schmidt for the purpose of creating conflict and make him a horrible, petty weirdo and then act like it didn't happen throughout the rest of the series. It also feels really out of place when Schmidt has maintained that Cece is the love of his life but then can't pick between her and the other girl who's name I can't even remember.

I like Nick but he doesn't really grow or change enough to justify him and Jess getting together in the end. If you're going to write that the couple doesn't work together, you need to show that they've grown and made significant changes to overcome that. Instead they just date other characters for the convenience of dating other characters so that the writers can eventually bring them back together. Nick takes on a bit more responsibility at the bar, but is ultimately the exact same person and it's not like Jess really changes either.

Season 7 was super underwhelming and they would've been substantially better ending off in season 6, not every couple has to get married and it was very obviously implied they were back together with the ending elevator scene of season 6. To me this leaves a bit more mystery in their conclusive relationship and I think that it's better that way.

This has been complaints, but ultimately enjoyed the show, I just seem to remember the frustrating parts more than the many many laughs it gave (and I watched every episode so that says something too).

Sequel-itis
4 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This movie misses Anthony Hopkins presence sorely. Also, the first act drags significantly because of the questionable script choices. Makes no sense to me that Zorro gives up on 10 years of marriage and doesn't even confront his wife? Also the plot point of making Elena opposed to Zorro's activities is completely out of character and out of line with the first movie. If you wanted to give them a kid that's fine but I think a family of Zorro's would've been much more in line with the characters set up in the first film. Ultimately, I don't really think this sequel was needed, but once the first act ends it picks up significant momentum. As the farcical plot comes out and the swordfights pick up the movie returns itself to enjoyable. If you're a fan of the first, I think it's worth the watch, maybe just skip the first act?

Meh
4 July 2021
This was really cliched and I found some of the voice acting to be really irritating. In general, it was mediocre. Nothing horrendous, but nothing that hasn't been done before in better movies.

Dated but Fun
4 July 2021
I enjoyed it overall, nothing too special but Sandler is fun enough. Some jokes hit, others don't but if you enjoy his movies, you'll enjoy this one. The script is pretty predictable and cliched but serviceable. The standout scene is the breakup song by far.

Not Enough Beetlejuice
4 July 2021
Beetlejuice has a weirdly small amount of screen time in a movie called Beetlejuice. Love the Claymation and special effects. Also love the film's depiction of death as a bureaucratic hellscape with a multitude of stupid and confusing rules.

Fairy Godmother Please Hit my Line
3 July 2021
The best Shrek movie easily. Songs all bang, puss is a great addition and the combo of fairy godmother and prince charming make the combo villain an improvement over Lord Farquaad. Only loses a point because Fairy Godmother's song was too hot and now I'm concerned that I may be attracted to grandmas :/

It holds up
3 July 2021
I will never say no to a friend who asks if I want to watch Shrek. The Fiona and Shrek being driven apart plot line is cliched and tired. Everything else is great. Eddie Murphy is used so much better in this than in Mulan. The plot is tight and the cast is great and small. Ending is hilarious too and so is all the Disney slander. Will continue to watch again and again. Shrek 2 is better though.

A Generational and Subversive Show
3 July 2021
Though it starts slow, Bojack is in the conversation for the best animated show of all time. I believe it competes adequately among the best TV shows during its run (after the first season). Perhaps the most endearing aspect of this show is how different it is from everything else that is created in the medium of television. The way it examines mental illness, substance abuse and addiction, and manipulation is unmatched. Every now and then the show will release a subversive episode such as Free Churro that blows my mind. These are the episodes I point to anytime I am trying to get my friends to watch it. I was disappointed the show ended, but found the ending to be satisfying, though it took me some time and watching some interpretations and analyses of it to come around. Now, I have the second season of undone by Raphael Bob-Waksberg to look forward to and hope that he continues to experiment and blow my mind with truly unique television.

Not nearly as bad as advertised
3 July 2021
I enjoyed this. Not by any means anything spectacular, but with the right expectations, it is an enjoyable dumb movie with a charismatic enough performance from Angelina Jolie for it to make it a fun time,
