The Old Oak (2023)

Old but full of power
8 November 2023
Just watched this masterpiece in the 64th TIFF and a dream came true. Felt like I introduced myself to Ken Loach, a resident of the social realism kingdom and his movie that delves into the hot topic of refugees and asylum seekers, where everything depicted with such an authentic, genuine and heartfelt way, making you feel that you sit in a corner, present and ready to engage with what is going on. Maybe its the most realistic movie Loach ever made, close in comparison with I Daniel Blake (2016), with characters taken from real life and situations very close with some of which each one of us maybe encountered and never took a position on a subject when we should. After watching it you are going to get some of the power of this eternal teenager who goes by the name Ken Loach and find a way to make your community a better place regardless age, color and race. Go for it.

Childhood love

The Childishness of the era depicted with scary detail. The love behind this story is obvious and you can only feel happy about what you are going to watch. There isn't much left to write about Truffaut and his true cinema ingenuity. I felt that it's him whom I watched in my tv screen, I felt his is a boy who run away from the adults and their desire to take everything from you by blaming you for every wrongdoing. Finally he reaches the beach. Sea instantaneously hugs him and I felt that for the first time he felt free, after all, next to the sea we are all alone and she finds a way to embrace you and forgive you.

Miracles happen

You should watch. Such great location and casting. The plot is classic but keeps you on the hook. Denzel's acting is great as we all expect from him. The end of the trilogy is not what I expected and surprisingly a more dramatic way was taken from the team which I liked, but this is subjective. Good directing and good depicting of the relationship between human and god form the director. Photography is very good and special too. This movie left me with some thoughts regarding, what make us live in a place? The people or the place itself? Maybe a combination of these two? I think it's the people though. You should watch and find your answer.

Past Lives (2023)

Past future

Felt real, while putting you on the heroes position, you can feel the energy of this two civilizations and the difficulties that an immigrant has to cope with regarding the most important aspect of their lifes, the personal and mental one. Directing was extraordinary and the photography too. Spot selection was magnificent and regarding the script and the story that lives in it, felt something deeply and strictly, personal which in the other hand can be a story that everyone can relate to. It's a must see and after watching this masterpiece it's time for everyone to give a little thought about where are we and what is our decision's impact in ours and the people near us is.
