Gulliver's Travels (1939)
Give it up!
No, this isn't Madagascar, Lion King or Shrek. Not even Peter Pan or Cinderella but this film demands the respect of something created in 1939. That's right '39! Not 1989, 1979 or even '69. I'm amazed and the amount of effort that must have gone into this animation.
I'm curious to know if Gulliver is rotoscoped. The little people are obviously traditional animation but there is definitely something different about Gulliver.
For an excellent verion of Gullivers Travels including all of his travels (not just Lilliput) catch the made for TV version starring Ted Danson.
The Greatest American Hero (1981)
He he he he ...WIPEOUT!
Other than the red suite and the curly blonde hair, all I remember was that he couldn't land to save his life and every time was a wipe out. The girls at school used to call me "Ralph" due to my curly hair thus you see the popularity of the show with 5th graders.
I was 10 years old when this came out and watched every episode yet I can't remember the plot of a single one. I believe it was on during the Friday night line-up, somewhere around Fantasy Island and Loveboat.
The theme song was a huge hit. To this day, it comes to me now and again for now apparent reason.
This was a great 80's show and a lot of fun. Defintitely one of the top memorable shows (conceptually anyway) of the 80's.
The Most Important Person (1972)
Ohhhh the memories
The little jingle has been in my head for 30+ years along with that green "turkey" character. All I could remember was the first line of the opening song, the green character, and the animation at the end when the hairy thing slides down the rope and the other characters are at the bottom of the credits. Now that I have a young child, I was inspired to see what I could find on the Internet. Not much.
I was pleased to see some comments here on IMDb and thrilled when I found 3 episodes on somebody's web site. The dejavu was nearly overwhelming when the clip started to play. The images in the opening sequence came to me like some LSD flash-back. Wow! Further research only turned up a single 16mm reel of one episode on ebay (I think I'll buy it).
These were such positive and happy children's shorts. I wish we had more of this on TV today.
