Oppenheimer (2023)
The culmination of Nolan's art
One of the very, very few movies I give 10 to. This movie shows a new form of storytelling, one that is highly sensory and emotive. Nolan has broken the boundaries of conventional movies to create an experience beyond the pages of a script or the timeline of a plot. He shows he is in absolute control over what the audience catches and misses in every line of dialogue, in every shot, and uses that as his instrument to craft his symphony. The tension building throughout is paced in a well-balanced ocean of waves, rising and releasing, to carry the viewer to stranger shores. It felt as though the movie was written for the music rather than the opposite, which says a lot about the symbiotic effectiveness.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Proof that Marvel is done
After Iron-Man died, Cap aged and Black Panther's Chadwick Boseman passed away, we all wondered why we would even watch another Marvel movie. How can a threat beat Thanos and how can superheroes beat The Avengers... well so far, Wandavision and The Falcon left us underwhelmed. But Sony made an incredible move with Spider-Man No Way Home. But this, this is not what Marvel has been creating in their cinematic universe for the last decade of so. This is badly written special effects driven plot. Music is horrible too, just saying. And to be honest, I'm disappointed in Sam Raimi, who at least gave us decent Spidey movies.
Visually great, is the only good thing we csn say about this movie.
Tomorrowland (2015)
Underrated gem
Looking past its cheesy storytelling devices and cute fx, this movie has a heart of gold. The dialogues at times are weak when they intend to be empowering, but it doesn't stop this movie from being one of few to give a true sense of hope to the audience. I come back to this movie whenever I need a boost.
Hell or High Water (2016)
Exposition at its least clever
Weak script with scenes where characters do nothing but engage in less than interesting conversations about their past just to give exposition. Doesn't deserve the casting and praise it got, imo. The lack of effort in the writing tarnished the directing and acting worth its while.
