Young Rock: Seven Bucks (2022)
Best Episode of the stop start series!
I have been a big big fan of Dwayne Johnson since 1999 or something. But I didn't have much expectations from Young Rock when it was announced because of the autobiographical nature of the premise. The first season was average with some good moments. The guy who plays 15 year old Dwayne has been the highlight so far.
But this episode has provided a real glimpse of how much potential this series has. Of Dwayne Johnson's life, as many times the stories of which his fans have heard, mainly on his Wikipedia profile or his interviews or his book.
This episode provides sort of the reset for the series and starts the motivational and inspiring story of The People's Champion we all know about. I hope it leads to his journey into professional wrestling.
For once, I am eagerly waiting for the next episode. I really want to see the 1994-1997 phase of his life.
If done right, this series could become magestic.
Peacemaker (2022)
Greatest DC show ever!
Without a doubt, this is the greatest show based on DC comics. It's a level apart from all other shows like Arrow, The Flash, Gotham etc etc. On the same caliber of Netflix Marvel shows Daredevil and The Punisher.
Okay, so about the show, it follows off from The Suicide Squad and follows John Cena's Peacemaker's life following TSS. Shows the backstory of why and how he became The Peacemaker and his personal and professional life is explored. Two characters from The Suicide Squad feature in main cast here namely Jennifer Holland's Agent Harcourt and Steve Agee's John Economos. It's rare for two minor characters from the movie getting prominent roles here. Four new characters are introduced here namely Murn, Vigilante(Peacemaker's BFF), Adebayo and Auggie Smith(Peacemaker's dad).
John Cena is in top form here. It's his best acting performance to date. Robert Patrick is brilliant as Peacemaker's father who really makes you hate his character. The biggest revelation has been Freddie Stroma here. His performance as Vigilante is probably the best thing about the series. He steals every single scene he is in. Other actors do a great job as well.
Regarding storyline and tone, James Gunn is in thunderous mode here. The tone is pretty much similar to The Suicide Squad but there is a little more dramatic element here. James Gunn effortlessly balances the comedic and dramatic aspects of the show and paces the storyline perfectly. The storyline is good and basic. It's no The Dark Knight and it knows what it is and treats it like that as well. There's a lot of profanities. The dialogue and chemistry between the actors are phenomenal. The action scenes are well executed and choreographed to perfection especially the ones in finale. There's a few good cameos throughout the series and they are a bit unexpected and really good.
Oh and one thing I forgot about here is the soundtrack. The soundtrack is the thing that really catches the show's essence and motors it along well. It's some good 80s Hard Rock and Glam Rock.
Eagerly waiting for the next season.
