The five, concerns the five neomartyrs of the island of Samothrace in the period after the Greek Revolution of 1821 who were tortured by the Turkish conquerors when they returned to the island in 1836. Earlier, in the spring of 1821, the five officials decided to prosecute the Turkish tax collector from the island and to join the revolutionary climate of the time and thus for three months peace prevails. At the end of this period, however, at the end of August, Samothrace is surrounded by twenty warships, about three thousand soldiers invade the island and massacre about 8,000 people.

Among the cast with many Greek actors of film and television, the Hollywood star Manu Bennett stands out, known - among others, from the films Spartacus, Hobbit and Arrow. In fact, he accepted to play because he considers himself a philhellenic and in addition in the movie Spartacus he plays a Thracian rebel. Also, the film is a Greek production, which was based on the financing of exclusively Greek businessmen.

A Cavalry lieutenant is assigned to deliver a peace treaty to an Indian chief, but two Indians have vowed to kill the officer and his men before he completes his mission. The two Indians who are brother and sister and chief's children sabotage the patrol's supplies at every turn in various undetected ways. On their journey the patrol discovers the remains of Commissioner Kirby's escort.

The patrol finally get wise to Taslik when they discover that he has led them in a giant circle looking for water. With time rapidly vanishing, Lt. Billings collects all the remaining water of the rapidly diminishing patrol to fill one water bottle. This is given to one of the troopers, who is to make his way overland to the Indian village while the rest of the men conserve their strength by traveling only at night. Wanima ambushes the trooper and kills him but is wounded herself and becomes unconscious.

At night the patrol discovers what has happened, but Billings refuses to kill Wanima. This causes discontent among the patrol, who have lost other members through poisoned water and suicide. Wanima agrees to lead the patrol to water but leads them to an abandoned gold mine, creating further discontent. After a brief struggle between the troopers, Wanima, and Billings, Wanima resents leading them to water. With renewed strength and the knowledge of the gold, some remaining troopers plot to collect the gold and flee. When discovered a shootout occurs, ultimately only Billings and Wanima survive, finally arriving at the village to deliver the treaty.

I guess that everybody could have remembered the movie if John Wayne or Henry Fonda were the leading actors instead of Robert Stack (who was great by the way). I enjoyed it. One of my favorites.

Excellent movie by two great actors. Of Love and Shadows is a story of courage and passion. We don't see such movies anymore. Both Connelly and Banderas do a good job in their roles. Connelly's accent takes some getting used to but thats ok,because I like her as an actress very very much. Banderas, who is very good actor by the way is so good as the revolutionary photographer. I read that this movie has originally been released in Germany in 1994, it took over 2 years for it to find a limited release in the United States. After seeing that Film, of course it's not hard to understand why!!!!!!! Americans, Americans!!

This movie is one of my 10 best movies ever because it has to do with Police corruption and corruption in general and how hard is for a human to be HONEST! Al Pacino is excellent as the INTEGER POLICE OFFICER!

Much more better movie from Tarrantino's science fiction! Masterpiece!!!!!! Bale and Crow are great!

It is a great way to spend 2 hours for those of us who enjoy an 100% action movie. Enjoy it for what it is and don't over-analyze it.

A highly prized neurosurgeon, Geralis, committed to his science and to his child, is urgently urged to operate someone with a tumor in the brain. After successful surgery, the patient disappears. Geralis takes the matter personally and begins to investigate the case, discovering that the patient is the president of the Hellenic Petroleum Organization, who has been the victim of the ruthless competition of the multinationals, having inadvertently become their pawn. He immediately realizes that he has fallen into deep waters, but with the support of the prosecutor and the investigator, he struggles to get to the end, despite the many problems he faces at all levels.

16 blocks separating the criminal Eddie Bunker, detained in the Police Department, from the New York courthouse. There he will have to give a testimony as a witness to the Prosecutor. A routine path, but no one wants to take, and eventually entrusted to the alcoholic veteran detective, Jack Mozli. One case, that it is more chore, suddenly evolves into a nightmare for the experienced detective. In a moment of negligence of Jack, someone tries to kill Eddie. From that point onwards, begins a merciless Manhunt, as shown, many are those who don't want Eddie to arrive alive before the public prosecutor. Fast-talking criminal has been targeted by police in New York, since it is the key witness in the corruption case of the police force. All alone the tired Mozli confronted with a critical dilemma: to perform the task of caring for the safe transfer of prisoner but a witness to this case or TO TURN A BLIIND EYE in favour of his colleagues for years of which are now being blamed for many crimes.

Very nice movie with most interest focused on the film's music track, Ed Harris is perfect, mainly due to similarity he did the best he could and of course attributed the "quality" of Beethoven's character, Of course it could not and never managed to "identified" perfectly with the myth that incarnated. ( I don't know if anyone else could do better, maybe only Ian Hart which was the best "Beethoven" ever in my opinion).

Diane Krueger as Cholts, is right, with internal dynamics that took no outward, deliberately, a modest quiet strength in front of the "God of music"! Remarkable how there isn't a love scene, something I respect a lot!

I loved that movie! Excellent performances! Very beautiful set! An Oscar movie in my opinion! The story in about a Greek monastery during the period of the Ottoman occupation of Greece in 17th century and it is about the quirky relationship between a nun and a ganissar ( elite infantry soldier that formed the Ottoman Sultan's household troops and bodyguards . Ganissars first began as an elite corps of slaves made up of kidnapped young Christian boys from all the Balkans and were given the choice to convert to Islam, and became famed for internal cohesion cemented by strict discipline and order)

The location of the film is much challenging . The actors are great and the filmmakers succeed with minimal means to represent successfully the historical period. Remarkably, lyrical shots reveal the magnificence of nature and create a beautiful atmosphere. In "Black meadow" don't fit neither religions nor armies. Only rebellious souls returning to nature along with their wild instincts
