Along for the Ride (2022)
Bland characters in an incomplete or badly edited semi-romantic movie
I'm a sucker for any kind of romance movies, but lately it's been hard to find good ones. This one isn't it. Fair enough, the movie is more about two people pushing each other to do new things or get out of their comfort zone and in a way helping each other grow, instead of being a full on romantic teenage movie. I get the message the movie is trying to convey, but the medium is seriously flawed.
The plot seems rushed, one moment the protagonist meets a guy (we see about 3 seconds of them exchanging words) and literally 10 seconds later (counting from the initial meetup) the scene cuts to them kissing somewhere private? I don't think the script was made up that way, because that would be some incredibly lazy and bad writing. My guess it was edited that way for time? They really should've made the movie at least 30 mins longer, as these kinds of noticeable editing choices and inconsistencies happen several times and makes the experience of watching the movie a bit jagged.
The protagonists seem bland, something that is trying to be compensated by the actors' attractiveness. If you enjoy seeing two good looking people creating some sort of a bond on screen, I believe you'll like this movie and get some sort of pleasure from it. The final revelations also seem to happen suddenly, there isn't any real character development, dialogues seems a bit clunky and forced at times and the themes aren't being explored properly. All in all, an okay movie for someone's who's feeling a little lovesick and has nothing better to do. 5/10.
Love and Monsters (2020)
It's a bit like Train Your Dragon but modernized
I expected this movie to be a terrible clichéd action flick but I was positively surprised. It's definitely worth watching for an enjoyable evening of some good hearted fun.
A clumsy, lovable, dorky guy feels like he has no place amongst his colony and ventures out to seek his girlfriend from 7 years before. He befriends some folks ,almost dies, finds his courage and the girl, he doesn't befriend a monster but he does spare one from death because not all of them are "bad".
Tall Girl (2019)
I watched it so you wouldn't have to.
This is the worst Netflix has to offer, worse than Kissing Booth even. The characters have no depth, the tall girl lacks personality, she's boring and whiny. The others keep calling her fun but we see none of that in the actual movie? The "Swedish" guy has a laughable accent, the "mean girl" is just a hollow shell that says kind of mean things sometimes. The dialogue is awkward and cringy. Don't get me started with that "quirky" crate thing that was supposed to turn into this "cute" stroke of genius moment at the very end. So predictable and just awful.
Not only are the characters and acting terrible, the whole concept of this movie is idiotic, people don't get bullied for their height, that doesn't happen. I'm a very tall girl, always the tallest in class, taller than my older siblings, and I love it. Being tall is great, that shouldn't be a "movie screen realisation".
The Kissing Booth (2018)
I screamed at the wall while watching this movie
I am a sucker for romance, especially teenage romance. Usually I like this kind of movies. However, this one doesn't do it for me, the sub-par acting, (in my opinion) not so attractive female lead, the lack of chemistry, the predictable plot line and the cringey as hell dialogue just made this movie a pain to watch.
I wouldn't recommend it no.
