The Walking Dead: The Day Will Come When You Won't Be (2016)
It could've been so much more!
This COULD have been Walking Dead's pivotal moment. This COULD have been the big refresher this show needed. This COULD have been the greatest episode of all time. So what went wrong?
AMC.
Since they decided to leave the last season off on a cliffhanger instead of just giving us the moment we've all been waiting for, they decided to stuff some more cash into their pockets, laughing all the way to the bank.
There were some real bad things that went down this episode, but I felt no emotion while watching any of it. The emotional intensity for the finale was perfect, but instead of giving us that punch, they said, "LOL see you in 7 months!" Now I feel no emotions for this show anymore.
There were also some very action-esque moments that are impossible to do in this reality or our own, which also drew me out of the episode.
HOWEVER, the redeeming factors of this episode are the performances of Jeffery Dean Morgan and Andrew Lincoln. These two actors are, admittedly, phenomenal in this episode.
Otherwise, I just feel... empty. This was the highest point in the comics, but in the show, it just feels like a void. I really don't know how else to describe it.
Maybe if I watch it a second time and like it more I'll change my rating to a 7, but right now, I'm just disappointed. Shame on you, AMC.
Man of Steel (2013)
Expectations lowered
With the first movie to the soon-to-be DC cinematic universe, Man of Steel opens up the new series of movies with a disappointing start. Maybe my expectations were a little high for this movie, but after seeing it, I'm starting to think how they might be able to turn this series around, as it leaves the big question: Is this really a Superman movie? No, it's not. This is Man of Steel
***SPOILERS BELOW***
If you led everything about the Christopher Reeve Superman movies, prepare to be disappointed! Instead of Superman standing for justice and saving the civilian population, he insteads lets countless civilians die, destroys half of Metropolis alongside Zod, and erases everything Superman was supped to stand for. The movie is much more graphic and violent than I expected especially after seeing it a second time. I know you need action, but this was ridiculous. There's an overabundance of CGI with no real substance, and completely drives away from the only good part that keeps you intrigued with the movie.
The story was good, revolving around Clark trying to figure out where he belongs and his struggles in his early life, but once the action starts it all derails.
Also, the acting isn't exactly top-notch either. Even Laurence Fishbourne couldn't save the other actors in this movie. Henry Cavill shouldn't have been Superman- erm- Man of Steel, because he doesn't exactly show the true Superman identity that Chris Reeve was able to do in the previous movies.
Overall, the directing wasn't the good, despite the opportunity for good writing, the acting could've been better, and the orgy of action was way too much even for CGI super fans. I really hope Batman V Superman will be better than this.
Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
The Perfect Balance between action, comedy, story and character development
Guardians of the Galaxy is a perfect movie for anyone of any age to see. Though the movie does begin with a scene not expected to be seen after viewing all the commercials and trailers, it does give you a better understanding toward one of the characters in particular. Then, after that moment, you are brought right into the galaxy, and the plot will immediately being from that moment on.
With this being the first movie to enter Marvel's cosmic universe, I really couldn't have many expectations for this movie. However, the characters are so lovable and interesting that you cannot take your eyes off the screen for even a second. Their humor is also unique to each of their characters, from Peter's references to his past life, or Drax's unintended humor about catching metaphors over his head, that's what makes them all special. They each also have their own contribution to their forming team, and show their unique skills through the film when the action beings rolling.
With the exception for Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper, the rest of the cast is fairly unknown to the average viewer. With the added talent of Chris Pratt, (Peter) Zoe Saldana, (Gamora) Lee Pace, (Ronan) and to me, the most surprisingly, Dave Butista (Drax) all gave a superb performance in this movie, showing true dedication to their characters to make the movie very enjoyable to watch.
This movie gets an easy 10, only because it is an addictive and fun movie throughout, and an overall good time. Watching this movie will make your day better once you get out of the theater, GUARANTEED! With this being the last movie in Marvel's cinematic universe before the next Avengers, I now hope that the next set of movie to be released by Marvel will be able to match to Guardians of the Galaxy.
If you haven't seen it, I don't know what you're waiting for! I highly recommend this movie to anyone!
