If you are one of the viewers who found the stupidity of the characters in Prometheus frustrating, this movie will drive you insane. With Prometheus I could suspend believe in that regard and still enjoy the movie. But beyond the general stupid actions of the characters in this movie, the fact that they all constantly lose their sh**t in every situation was hard for me to look past. You'd assume they were chosen for their expertise, and trained to encounter crazy stuff since they are space travelling to establish a colony. But it's unclear how any of them are suited to the task, and they are just completely irrational. This is harder to get past then just the stupid actions of some characters in Prometheus.

The movie is seems torn between being philosophical, and being a full on gore movie. It doesn't really work well on either level. Character development is really rushed.

A strong point would obviously Michael Fassbender. If you have read any reviews of the movie, that will already be clear. and I really liked the space travel scenes (first 20 minutes was pretty cool). The sets on the planet were also great, along with some other scenes related to the planet. But from the moment they make the decision to go to the planet, the movie just turns into a complete mess. I'd categorize it as worth a look, but not really worth seeing in the theatre.

Very enjoyable

There are some reviews really ripping on the details on the film, and it is definitely a little formulaic. But it's got a very good cast, some good performances, a good soundtrack, and it overall an enjoyable movie. Some of the elements they try to incorporate to make it a little different than other sports films night not all work, but for a small film that I would guess didn't have a huge budget I think they did a very good job.

OK, but a missed opportunity

Warning: Spoilers
I don't generally write reviews on movies on here. I was a big fan of the TV and donated to the kick-starter though so I was anxiously awaiting seeing this movie.

I am definitely torn on it. I don't agree with reviews saying it's completely horrible. It has some very funny parts sprinkled throughout it, and is watchable. But it's just so so so far removed from the spirit of the original show.

I am not even a football fan, but because of the way humour and football were mixed in the show, I loved it. I also feel the football side of things was an important part of the characters in the show, and obviously a reason the Goat House existed in the first place. I marked this as containing 'spoilers' because it's hard to not point out that there is literally about 2 minutes of football content in the movie.

It's basically a party movie. But it doesn't really do an amazing job at that either. Everything feels rushed and again, the humour is just a different type of humour than the show was. Take one of the better party episodes from the show, but stretch it out with quite a bit of filler for an hour and 30 minutes, and you have the movie.

Most of the really funny parts (to me) revolved around Thad and his dialogue. But it would be pretty hard to screw up that character. That's one consistent element from the TV show, and the reason I can still give this a 5 ratings despite my criticisms. He really does carry the movie in my opinion.

I guess it could have been much worse. But it's definitely not anything fantastic. I really think they should have stuck to their original formula more. The one that gained the show a rabid fan base the helped them fund this movie.

Great Fun

I have a really tough time figuring out what people want from the Horror genre nowadays. I am really surprised to see this movie doesn't have a higher rating on here. This is a great Horror/Comedy movie, with an outstanding cast, and very good writing. It's just a really gory, really funny, really run movie. What you see in the trailer is what you get, which is nice for a change with the amount of misleading trailers nowadays. The only reason I don't give it an even higher rating is because I agree with other viewers that it does lag a bit around the middle of the film. It almost seems like they just shoved some filler in to meet a running time. But it manages to get back on track again. I rarely read reviews on here, but I laughed out loud and had a great time watching this movie.

Legion (2010)

Just plain bad
26 January 2010
This movie just fails on every level.

I have seen some reviews/posts that claim people are 'missing the point' and that this is supposed to be a "B" movie in the vein of Evil Dead. Well, I love those type of movies and Legion does not compare to them, or appear that it attempted to be part of that genre in any way.

From an action movie standpoint, it basically lacks action. It has a few scenes I would categorize as 'decent'. The previews completely mislead viewers in this regard.

From a drama standpoint, the script is absolutely horrible. Even with good actors reading it, some of the dramatic parts drag on unbelievably. And there are just way too many of these parts for such a horrible script.

The plot and characters are underdeveloped, the acting is horrible, and the movie just drags on and on. I am hard pressed to find anything good to say about it other than that there are a few decent action scenes.

I know it's not the most 'wordy' review but it's really tough to say much else about this movie. It was the first time I have actually been angry at spending money in a theatre. I have never wrote a review on here, but the reviews for this movie are so completely misleading it motivated me to.

Great Movie....if you've seen the series
22 August 2007
Being a sci-fi fan, I saw this movie when it originally came out and thought it was a decent movie. I had never seen Firefly the series though. I recently bought the complete series because they had it for %40 at the stores here for some reason. I watched the series and loved it. I went back again right after wards, watched the movie again and absolutely loved it this time.

Basically, check out the series. If you like it, you will likely enjoy the movie. If you don't like it, you likely won't. It's a movie that's definitely made for fans, and doesn't spend much time on back story or character development. All that was done in the series. As a new fan, I think this was a fantastic movie.

I'd have to agree with the 'fanatics' of Firefly after all my recent viewing of the film and the show. It's great sci-fi, and it's a shame it was so short lived. What's even more a shame is I don't even recall ever series this series in re-runs here (Canada). If it was shown on the Space channel, I think it would get a whole new fan-base.
