Control (2007)
Devasted
The first time I heard of Control was on a blog about the Cannes Film Festival, so as a Joy division's fan I couldn't wait to see it. When I knew that it was featured in Cannes and somewhere in Milan, my friends and I could not miss it. Well we were all blown away, I think devastated is the right word for how we felt after it. We cried, we did not speak for at least an hour.
Before watching the film I only knew that Corbijn was a photographer and it's quite comprehensible since the photography is perfect, it's a great choice the black and white.
Sam Riley as Ian Curtis is simply great, he's much better as an actor than a musician =P , he catches Curtis' tormented soul brilliantly. Samantha Morton is good as always, even if I must admit that I found Deborah Curtis pretty annoying.
Well, in the end I think it's quite clear that I loved this film, I'm looking forward the official release to see it again and again, but I'm afraid ( for not to say sure) that here in Italy we'll have to wait a long time as always. Damn.
The Breed (2006)
What happened to the dogs?
When I went to the cinema I was supposed to see Almodovar's "Volver" and now I regret not to have done it. "The Breed" begins and ends like the typical horror film that we're used to see: some college friends go to a desert place where strange creatures haunt and kill them one by one. Here there are super-angry dogs but we will never get to know what really happened to them. Poor dogs... Someone imagines to see a psychic doctor or something similar, but there's nothing, probably an experiment gone badly. There is also a little drama but just like the whole film it is something we have already seen. In the end it's not a boring film but it's dejà-vu without any kind of explanation.
L'uomo perfetto (2005)
finally a good Italian romantic comedy
Lucia has always been in love with her best friend's boyfriend, Paolo. When they announce the engagement, she pays a poor and spunky actor and transforms him into the perfect man in order to seduce her friend and break the engagement, but things don't go exactly in the way she wanted... In the latest years a lot of Italian director tried to make decent comedies but no one succeed. It took Marco Ponti's script and Luca Lucini's fresh directing to have finally something good. The story is not that original, but the dialogs are funny and fresh, the acting in very good and finally Milan is not seen as the the big city where everybody always run to arrive in time.
