Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022)
There's a reason that this went from theatres to HBO in 6 weeks...
I gave it 3 stars because of the visuals. Otherwise it would be a solid 1 star epic. I usually would expect to see 'magical creatures' in a magical creature movie. Few and far between. Slow-paced and confusing mess that managed to work in some hollywood-style 'wokeness'. Scenes that should have been 15 seconds stretched out into 3 minutes accompanied by music. Not even Johnny Depp could have saved this - ironically, his contract got him paid anyway since he shot a couple of scenes before 'resigning'. Do not expect the studio to come up with a #4 and #5 after this one. I watched without reading any reviews first, otherwise I'd have saved myself the trouble.
3022 (2019)
How many cartons of smokes do you need for a 10 year space mission?
This movie is laughably stupid. Smoking in space (maybe that's why you have an O2 shortage), parents leaving their child on earth while they head off for the unknown, plenty of improvised weapons handy if you decide to take space law into your own hands.
Another Life (2019)
Simply stupid
The fate of the planet relies on contact with the aliens - these are not the people you want to be sending on this mission.
A good rule of thumb is that if a series spends too much time on ancillary characters (especially a kid) then the writers have run out of ideas - you have that here. As a NFLX shareholder, I hope that there is no 'Season 2' of this mess.
Armageddon (1998)
Possibly the stupidest ending in the history of cinema
Where to begin: The kids playing with shuttle models next to the shack with JFK's picture on it? The kids on the two 'wheeled shuttles' racing (imagine their Dad's saying 'well, we could evacuate the family or spend our time building cars')?
I gotta go with the 'astronauts' hitting the emergency slides and walking the length of the runway while a variety of regular citizens are walking towards them: kids, chick in heels, guys in heat suits. Really, the only thing missing was the Village People walking down the runway to greet the heroes.
Will (2017)
Give this a chance
Binged through the 9 episodes available so far on TNT's app and can't wait for the next (one, two, three...?)
If I were a HS English teacher, having the students watch this would be the best way to get them interested in Shakespeare (probably have to field complaints from uptight parents about language, nudity, etc. etc.).
Just because not everyone is wearing brown or black doesn't mean this isn't historically accurate; maybe London was like a renaissance fair? The backstory on the characters seems to be on target.
