The Stranger (2020)
Riddled with plot holes
I gave this four stars for entertainment value and acting, but as far as plot goes, it gets maybe 1 star. So much thrown at us in 8 episodes which starts off great and exciting and leads the viewer to great anticipation on how it will all tie together in the end...and then the end comes and it doesn't tie together at all.
Where to start...so many things just had nothing to do with the main plot at all. So- main plot is Adam finds out that his wife and mother of his two sons faked her pregnancy a few years back as well as a miscarriage. He finds out via a Stranger who decides to tell him this information. After verifying the truth in it he confronts his wife Corrine who confirms the secret and tells him "there's more to this" and runs away before being able to explain.
But we find out by the end, there wasn't more to it! Yes, she was holding a secret with their neighbor Tripp that he had stolen money from the local football club, but that had nothing to do with the miscarriage and fake pregnancy at all.
Then we get a decaptiated alpaca with human teeth marks on it and led to wonder how this ties into the story. It doesn't! It has nothing to do with it at all. Just some teens that decide that it would be good revenge for posting porn pics online that lacing their drink with PCP would be a great idea.
No explanations given for so many things...such as why.the girl took the clothes from Dante and then spread them through the forest. How exactly did he go into a coma from tripping in the woods at night?
Why was Olivia's mother poisoning her? Never explained. Why was. Kissane's son suddenly his daughter??
Why would the Stranger (Chrissy) run away from Adam in the hospital only to talk to him later on and explain that he's her brother?!
How was Tripp able to murder Corrinne in her own garage and use remove all evidence and her body without being seen?
The ending makes absolutely no sense at all either. There's no way they would be able to blame Katz on the murder of Tripp as he was already arrested. Corrinne's autopsy would show that she was dead long before and an investigation would rule Katz out.
The show was just all over the place and made no sense what so ever.
Air (2023)
If only Nike kept to their guidelines
As a person who will never buy a Nike product again, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It shows how sometimes risk needs to be taken in order to achieve unbelievable success, and how one man's belief in Michael Jordan turned the entire company around. It's a great movie to serve as inspiration to never give up no matter how difficult something may seem. It's just a shame that all of the great notes that the team at Nike followed back then aren't followed anymore today. The company now endorses woke stars who are anti-American and create division instead of unity. Michael Jordan was not one of those, he was an all-time great who refrains from pushing a government fed narrative.
Outlast (2023)
Entertaining but could've been better
This show shares similarities with "Alone" with some of competitiveness of other reality shows like "Survivor". I would like to think that this show isn't scripted and that what we saw unfold is truly what happened there without the guidance of the production crew. Parts of the show I found to have a little trouble believing the reality of it such as when Justin was hiding from Team Delta wearing full camoflauge netting but being filmed by an uncamoflauged and unhidden camera crew.
I'm also pretty shocked with some of the things that were allowed to happen on this show such as contestant Angie being removed after 24 full days without a bowel movement which could have killed her. On Alone they have med checks weekly. How this poor woman went almost a month before it was realized or even mentioned is shocking.
If this wasn't scripted, the two women on this show Amber and Jill were the epitome of evil. How anyone could root for them is beyond me. We seem them crying at the end when they come just short of winning the show complaining that they are "the underdogs" and are supposed to win it...
No, they were dirty cheaters who didn't play fair and deserved to lose. One of them (Amber) even bragged several times on camera that she's a felon, like that's something to be proud of.
I enjoyed the concept of this show but I feel that certain aspects of it, such as stealing other teams vital equipment to survive such as sleeping bags shouldn't be allowed. That was dispicable behavior and I am glad that Justin was kicked off Team Charlie and couldn't share the team win.
Extremely dissapointed in some of the character choices to bail out and go home when the cruel tactics from Team Alpha were played on them. Quitting is never the answer, determination to win is.
All in all I found the show entertaining, and wish they would add a brief background on each contestant and have a follow up after the show such as in Alone.
The Thing (2011)
Just dumb
I really wanted to like this but it was just stupid and full of goofs and plot holes. The first error occurs in the first 5 seconds of the film when there's screen text that reads "Antarctica: Winter 1982"...and you see Antarctica during the day on the screen. If it's Winter, it would be dark as the night lasts about 6 months in the Winter in Antarctica. Then we see the vehicle searching for a signal fall into an extremely deep crevase and suddenly they're out, no harm done...the movie never shows how these men got out of that horrendous situation. Later on the alien breaks out of solid ice which was ridiculous...and we learn that it's immitating cells from hosts and recreating them. But when we see the victims it copies it opens up to reveal the alien inside...this is not cell cloning, this is using the body as a shell for an alien that is clearly much larger than the human shell it is in. Everything about this movie just doesn't make sense.
Beast (2022)
Roaringly bad
Did Mare really give her father a guilt trip about her mother while being attacked repeatedly by a rogue lion?! The diologue in this movie was laughable. At one point Nate is under the car with the lion viciously swiping at him on both sides of the vehicle and his whiny daughter is yelling at him from about to say something to her. Ummm, Dad is a little preoccupied at the moment.
So many stupid decisions I don't know where to begin. I could go on and on, but the biggest one came at the end when rushing to get his daughter to medical care, Nate decides to stop and go into an abandoned church to look for medical supplies and water, killing valuable time. Plus the fight he got into at the end with the lion was absolutely laughable. He would've been dead or down for the count in the first couple of seconds. Three stars for the action and CGI.
Avenue 5 (2020)
Super bad
I really wanted to like this. I know it's trying to be funny but it's just really really really bad. Jokes aren't funny, the ship is employeed by complete morons. It's just unwatchable. Who thought this was a good script?? I'm giving it two stars for set design. The acting is horrible, the humor is horrible, the logic is nonexistent, and reality is nonexistent, and I'm trying to come up with other things to say just to make this review long enough to post because this show isn't with my time. If this is what Hollywood is coming up with now we're totally screwed. This is not entertainment. The is trash.
Moonfall (2022)
Easily one of the dumbest movies I've seen
Wow, entertainment bonanza without a shred of reality. This movie had more plot holes than the moon has craters. 2 stars for entertainment value. Not going to bother explaining all the things that make no sense cause I'll be writing a novel. I didn't watch the trailer going into this one and perhaps I should have to save myself from watching it. I was hoping it would be about the moon naturally being knocked off orbit by some interstellar collision with a comet or something. But the moon being a sentinel being with some alien worm thing living inside it? Hally Berry must be getting really desperate.
Horizon Line (2020)
Enjoyable but unrealistic
The movie itself kept me entertained and the acting was decent, but the story had many plot holes or simply errors. First, you can't use drinking alcohol for jet fuel. The duct tape wouldn't have worked. And opening the fuel tank in flight would've caused the fuel to be sucked out. With all that aside, earlier in the flight the pilot Freddie tells Sara who's sitting just behind him to put the headset on because it's hard to hear in a Cessna. But later on in the film when Jackson and Sara are looking for land this rule is thrown out the window as they talk normally, even quietly in the plane.
It kept me entertained but ridiculous in believability. And I would've loved to have seen the bride at her wedding going "where the F is she?!!" Haha.
Girl in the Picture (2022)
Crazier than Fiction
What's sadder than this story is that there are many others out there today who are living their lives like this poor woman did, and the monsters who control them will get away with it. The best thing that came out of this very sad and disturbing story was some closure, for those investigating the case, her friends and little family that she had. I can't say justice was served because I don't think prison is cruel enough for a person who commits such unspeakable crimes. Death isn't either.
I guess the saddest part of this entire saga is that there were so many instances that would have prevented the horrendous outcome. It all starts with her birth mother who left her birth father when he was in Vietnam. Very cruel and unfair. Then a tornado destroys her trailer and she can't take care of her kids so she gives them up and runs into the psychopath Floyd. Then the police in Michigan refuse to do anything about him kidnapping the kids. Yes, he was legally married to the woman but they weren't his children! Then the birth mother doesn't bother to find her kids. While I have a hard time placing blame on her biological father for not wanting to take on 3 children at 23 years old with no job, I would've fought for my biological daughter.
Then her friends see a pattern of abuse at the strip clubs and nothing is done about it. Just so many ways this tragedy could've been avoided. It's just very sad.
Great documentary with the exception of a follow up of if Floyd has been executed yet. I guess I'll have to look that up.
The Rental (2020)
Very clever
Usually when I watch movies like this I can see the twist (if there even is one) a mile away. But this one was written very well. It throws you in different directions with subtitle clues that lead to nowhere. At first I found it quite irritating that the writer would add parts to the story that don't lead to the real antagonist, but then when I realized who the antagonist was and what the motivation was, I found it pretty fascinating that I didn't expect it. Well done.
Hustle (2022)
Not a basketball fan, and I genuinely enjoyed this
The only reason I watched this movie was because I was sitting on a plane with a dead phone and the guy next to me was watching it on his lap top. It looked interesting, so I decided to give it a try when I got home. I was not disappointed.
The movie was reminiscent of Rocky, it has that same momentum. And unlike many who have seen this movie, I honestly didn't know any of the basketball players in the film. It was a very uplifting movie, with a moral that one should never quit. I'm proof that you don't need to like basketball to enjoy this movie.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Really disappointed
I waned to see Obi Wan Kenobi. Not Third Sister. This series seems to be about this annoying character more so than what it should be about. Really disappointed in this.
Night Sky (2022)
I enjoyed it, but many won't
First of all, I must say that the chemistry between Simmons and Spacek is incredible, as is their acting. I see many people on here complaining of the pace, or the characters, or the plot holes. As for the characters, each one has been given some attention. I care for the Yorks, and I find it compelling trying to decide whether to trust Jude or not, as well as Stella. Sometimes lack of background and a little mystery can be a good thing. So I have no issues with the characters or the acting.
The pace is admittedly slow, but I enjoy slow burns. Many others have no patience and want instant gratification. They're not entirely wrong, it does move a bit slow, but I guess I found the story interesting so unlike others, I stuck with it. I was a bit disappointed however with the season finale that left so many unanswered questions. But does leave a great cliffhanger.
And then there are the plot holes....this is where I will drop some spoilers. I've suffered through depression. It's a horrible thing. But I don't understand why a young man with a beautiful wife and child, as well as wonderful supportive parents would take his own life because he's struggling to land a job. I've been there, it sucks. But you need to look at the big picture. I guess this isn't a plot hole because unfortunately some people have committed suicide over lesser things. I personally just find it hard to believe there are people who aren't stronger willed.
Back to the story, for one, I can't honestly believe that this couple would travel to that planet over 850 times and not once attempt to do more than look out the window. Franklin mentioned mice he left out but it's never explained what happened to them. If the air is breathable, why'd the mice die?
Another hole in the story...Irene feels a deep connection to Jude, and gets him to open up to her. But not once does she ever ask him how he got in that room on the planet. It would've been the first question I asked once he seemed to recall stuff.
Another plot hole...how people can have a massive car accident on the side of the highway and have others putting bags on people's heads next to said accident and nobody seems to notice? We're living in a time where traffic builds up on the other side of a highway just from rubberneckers trying to glance at an accident. This part in the final episode of the season was the most unrealistic part of the show.
I could go on, there's no need. I give it 7 stars for story and acting....plot holes and pace drop it a few. I'll keep watching next season.
Bad Vegan: Fame. Fraud. Fugitives. (2022)
Another decent documentary badly named
I don't understand who decides on naming these docu-series. The Tinder Swindler was a perfect name, but Don't F*ck With Cats and now Bad Vegan are really dumb names for what are pretty decent series'. The former didn't have very much to do with cats at all, which is why I skipped over it many times before watching it until hearing from someone talk about it. Dumb name. And now Bad Vegan...again, because of the title I skipped over this for a while. When I learned it was more about a psychopath manipulator and nothing really to do with being vegan I became more interested.
Ok, enough about the title. While I think this could have been done a little better, with less music and pointless aereal shots of the city, I found it pretty entertaining, so for that I give it 5 stars.
I struggle to understand how someone so intelligent like Sarma can be so stupid to fall for all that BS.
Don't get me wrong, I understand that when you're in love with someone you can easily overlook red flags. I can attest to that from personal experience with an ex. But there's only so much I would fall for. Lies about whereabouts when off cheating may slide by, but asking me for thousands of dollars and claiming to be part of special Ops and mysterious powers to make dogs immortal is on a whole other level. You have to be beyond stupid to fall for that. Sarma claims that you can easily be manipulated when you love someone, but she never appeared to love him. She married him in hopes she would get out of debt. This had nothing to do with love. She was miserable with him most of the time, and all her trusted friends and employees all knew he was shady. Plus the fact that he was friends with Alec Baldwin of all people should tell you everything you need to know. Wasn't surprised be was a con artist. She deserves everything she got and more for making stupid decisions. Yes, she's a victim of manipulation and gaslighting, but she's also a victim of pure stupidity and poor decision making.
Ozark (2017)
Ridiculous, with a horrible ending
This show doesn't deserve a long review....the writers have no idea how evil a real drug cartel is. The fact that they'd let a gringo run their cartel, and send their bosses to the US with only one man protecting them is an absolute joke. On top of that every character is hatable and evil. If you begin to like and feel for a character because they have a sense of good in them, they're killed off. And the most evil selfish woman on a television show gets away with everything. Absolutely ridiculous.
The Dustwalker (2019)
Pointless alien junk
This had the potential to be pretty good. I don't fault a movie for having a small budget and not having the big CGI that major films have, but the script doesn't cost money nor does the writing. The plot of this film was just dumb.
So this alien crashes to Earth, a girl with a telescope notices it and decides not to say anything cause "she wasn't sure". First of all, you can't watch a meteorite enter the atmosphere with a telescope. Telescopes are for stationary objects, it would be impossible to watch something like that through one. Besides that, this thing crashes into Earth and a local geologist sees the crater it left and some metallic ship or something that isn't shown and even after half the town has turned into motionless zombies the local sheriff still has a hard time believing her. Bad writing.
The alien seems to take over people's minds and turns them into mindless killers, but most of the time they're just standing in the street for no reason. Then for whatever reason the alien takes its infected killers off their job and buries them in a hole. It apparently listens to the sheriff when she tells it but to take one of the residents, and finally we see it blowing fire out of its mouth and apparently it's gone?
Oh and somehow it also created a dust storm surrounding the town as well that vanishes when it leaves, though we have no idea if it really left or not. Neither do the surviving residents who joke about life the next morning without even checking.
This movie just really seemed to have no plot at all and the writing was just horrible. 3 stars for entertainment value and the very cute red head who plays Samantha.
Animal (2014)
Predictable nonsense but entertaining
I knew the entire time there was more that one and that the surviving person would be a female, it always is. Just glad it was the girl with the nice rack lol.
Block Island (2018)
Super Bad
Decided to name this review after another party movie that was much better than this one. This film is one of the worst movies I've seen in many years. This may have been inspired by true events, but I'm sure those true events didn't happen like this. First of all, the acting was bad, just horrible. The script was really bad writing. And some things were just ridiculous.
Unlikable characters...I wanted Nicky to die so badly. So it takes about 80 minutes by boat to get from New London, CT to Block Island. The 4 main characters get to New London just in time to miss the last ferry. It appears to be mid afternoon at this point. They go into a bar for what seems to be about 20 minutes tops and Bobby tells them that the fishing boat they're paying for a ride on will leave in 30 minutes.
The bar scene with the so called "hookers" was absolutely ridiculous and pointless. Added nothing to the story at all.
So now it's still mid to late afternoon and they get on the fishing boat. Trouble starts when Ashley asks to go to the bathroom to pee. She literally just used the bathroom 20 minutes ago in the bar. Things go south from there and next thing you know it's night. This is supposed to be an 80 minute boat ride!! In the summer, they would be there before sun down.
Later in the movie Jake is left to drown in the Long Island Sound as the boat leaves him but he miraculously shows up after treading water for HOURS and has the energy to start a fire and stab someone with a harpoon. Cmon already....utter ridiculousness.
And at the end one of the friends goes on a rescue mission wearing a plastic Viking hat and keeps it on through a shoot out! Who wrote this crap?!
Blame (2021)
Insanely stupid
5 close friends caught in an abandoned school during a blizzard. They split up and discover that one of them was killed with a hammer. They immediately start blaming each other...unreal. What kind of friends do that?! Not to mention that the acting was horrendous. Logan didn't even seem upset that Andy was dead. Yes he didn't like her much but I think someone would have a stronger reaction. The script was atrocious. Why was it necessary for them to tell each other what they did that morning in detail?! What the hell does that have to do with anything?!?
Also, if you find your friend dead with a hammer in her head, you DON'T TOUCH THE HAMMER!! Stupid moron Blake goes and throws it. Instead of casting blame on your good friends, wait till the phones come on and the police can check the prints. That simple.
This movie was so stupid. And who goes around the back of a dark school in a blizzard to pee when there's bathrooms in the school!!
Parallel (2018)
Could've been so much greater
Started off really good and just took a nosedive into stupidity. And I should add that the alt universes wouldn't have revolutionary technology if they're all equivalent in time. Characters were all unlikable except Devin. It just got really stupid.
Arctic Void (2022)
Great Sci Fi Low Budget Mystery with a few flaws
So apparently there's lots of people hating on this film. Unlike many, I don't need constant action and jump scares to keep me entertained. I also don't need everything explained to me. While it's nice not to be left guessing, I like a film that makes me think. This movie definitely did that. And while I think the ending could have been better, I don't think it's difficult to figure out and I'll offer my theory.
So three American men go on a Norwegian tourist expedition in the Arctic, leaving port on a boat from Longyearbyen, Svalbard, which is on a large group of Norwegian islands extremely north near the northern tip of Greenland. On this trip, there's a few German tourists, 2 scientists, a few Swedish people, and the 3 Americans who are there to film an episode of a travel show. One of them (the camera man) was hired last minute because the regular camera guy was unable to get a visa.
All is well as they embark, and they have a funny Norwegian host who makes the tour welcoming. Things start to seem a bit odd when Ray notices a seagull that's missing its eyes. Shortly after the tourists witness a walrus kill its child, and they're all in shock. Not long after that the people try to forget the gruesome scene by trying a local delicassy (whale meat). While Ray and Alan are inside, the rest of the tourists are on the front deck. They come out to discover that everyone on the boat has mysteriously vanished. Panic ensues and they eventually take a life raft to a small town they see from the ocean.
The town appears to be a small Russian fishing or oil town still with Soviet signage. But it's abandoned. As the mystery deepens Alan begins to get sick. He has noticeable legions on his skin and coughs up blood at one point.
Now here's the questions...the camera guy was filming when the people vanished. He lies to Ray and Alan about it claiming he was in the bathroom when it happened but Alan eventually discovers the truth when it was caught on the German girls camera.
The big reveal comes and we learn that the camera guy is actually working for a top secret agency to document an experiment. Some sort of sonic weapon is being tested in the Arctic that causes a vibration that cannot be heard. This experiment caused the people to vaporize, except for people who have listened to some weird humming on a tape recording in the camera guy's lunch box. Since Ray listened to it longer than Alan did he doesn't seem to be effected by the experiment like Ray was. We also notice a deer and polar bear suffering from the effects of the experiment. In the end rescue is supposed to be coming when the camera guy is suddenly shot by an apparent sniper. Alan passes away from the illness brought on by the experiment, and Alan is freaking out by the gunshot and a phone ringing.
Here's my theory...the camera guy was never going to be paid for documenting the experiment because of its extreme top secrecy. He was just being used. So when the people behind it found their location they arrived and took him out. Then they called the room Ray was in to tell him he needs to come out and they'll kill him as well or let him die.
I thought it was a great slow burn film on a very low budget. The acting was good and it kept me thinking. There were a few flaws though. I'm not sure why we saw a man's ears bleeding and the walrus and seagull before the experiment started. Unless it was already building. And one major flaw was I don't understand how the clothes vanished on the people who disappeared. It should have been just the people. Even on a small budget they could have had their clothes on the floor. Otherwise the 3 Americans would have lost their clothes as well. Listening to whatever was on those headphones would'nt have protected clothing. So why did theirs stay? That makes no sense.
And one flaw in the story. The camera guy was filming the vanishing. Alan and Ray discover this but never demand to see the video. I assume this was because it was on a low budget but they could have shown the characters watch it without showing it. They never even asked. It would have been the first thing I did if I knew he filmed it.
Anyway, I enjoyed this movie. Not perfect, but very well done for such a small budget. Not deserving of the hate.
Out of Death (2021)
Wow that was bad
I thought this movie couldn't be bad cause it had Bruce Willis in it. Man was I wrong. He must be desperate for a pay check cause this wasn't even a semi decent movie...this was plain old horrendous. Acting was horrible, script was extremely unrealistic. The sherriff was laughably bad. I had to keep watching just to see how it ended but damn was it bad.
I'm still trying to understand why the hiker Shannon would go to a house and use a gun to intimate the resident in the house when she could've simply waited on her friend to pick her up as both cops were dead...and she could've just gotten out of the area. Made no sense.
Encanto (2021)
Wasn't really impressed
I enjoyed the visual effects and the colors but I never really seemed to grow to care for any of the characters other than Mirabel. Plus there once again were no real villians in this movie. It's almost as if Disney in these ridiculously woke times is afraid to make a bad guy. So many of their movies are about a female who is outcast or in the shadows of her peers and finds herself. It's just really overdone.
A few things were predictable...one, the moral. I could tell about 30 minutes in that it was going to come down to the family appreciating what they have in each other without the magical gifts.
Another was how everyone would love Mirabel and think she's the glue that holds the family together.
And lastly I could tell Bruno would be welcomed back from the beginning.
Some complaints I had with the story...the songs, personally to me were not catchy, and were sung waaaay too fast. I was not able to understand the vast majority of the lyrics.
Two, I just felt the story was rushed. One of the daughters was getting married and suddenly Luisa is throwing a church down with her strength...was just like what's going on here...
Three, I found it hard to like much of the family because they all seemed to love their gifts so much, as if they were nothing without them. Only the kid with the animal gift was likable. And they cast out their own brother because his gift revealed the future. Horrible people.
I was disappointed with the ending...Mirabel tells her grandmother the miracle was because of her. No, it was because of her grandfather sacrificing himself actually. And when the magic came back to the house...it just projects that the family will once again take it for granted. I was really hoping it wouldn't return.
Just not the best Disney movie. Wasn't horrible, but could've been much better in my opinion.
Unthinkable (2010)
Not Unthinkable
I'm sorry but this movie was massively disappointing. After learning that Yusuf the terrorist wanted to be captured and tortured, it was easy to tell he would not give up the locations of the bombs by being tortured. This should have been obvious to the FBI and military immediately after seeing the video tape at the mall. How did it take 3 days for them to see the footage of the mall with millions of lives at stake?!?
The first thing that popped in my mind when he expressed his love for his children was to get H in a room with his children. And yes, to torture them if need be to get Yusuf to break. It's not unthinkable. Extremely cruel yes, but millions of innocent people vs two children?!? You do what you have to do. It was easy to know the threat to his children would break him. And there could have easily been a fourth bomb. I was HOPING there was so all those morons would look like fools for rushing to get the children out of the room with H. But the movie ended prematurely and we're left to assume there wasn't. Stupid and horrible ending.
The Mandela Effect (2019)
Absolutely amazing
I was very pleasantly surprised by this one. I see many subpar reviews on here from people who really didn't get it. It takes a certain type of intellect to understand exactly why this was portrayed and delivered perfectly. Acting was great, storyline was great, flew over a lot of heads unfortunately, but not mine.
