History 101 (2020– )

Very US-centric and several other unaddressed biases
30 August 2022
Sure, you can't put all of history's nuances in a short video, but that doesn't mean you can cherry-pick stuff without even hinting at context or framing. How can you talk about credit card debt and pretend it's more like a global thing than something very typically problematic of the US? Or: "Oh no the Russians achieved something, everyone was shocked!" (no, just the US was 'shocked'). Or: "Let's talk about a great implementation of GPS: the US navy who wanted a system to better target 'the enemy' ". Etc etc. It's like one big lesson in bias and self-centeredness. I therefore found it annoying to watch, it would have been better with less biased perspective and a more globally diverse approach.

Classical Hollywood romance but in Italy
7 May 2021
There were some nice characters in this, like Pino. But it had nothing new apart from the setting. Could have done without the treatment of female characters as being cattle to be gawked at too. It's the 21st century, even for male producers.

Biased against Diana and others
29 April 2021
The bias in this thing was painful to endure. It would be a good example of how framing works, how it takes things from the real world and twists them into something else. The first half of the docu was ok, but you have to wonder how accurate it is when the second half all but ignores Charles' cheating!

Hilarious take on the super hero movie
14 April 2021
A lot (not all) of the super hero series and movies can be so utterly bland. Crappy dialogues, boring plots, 2D enemies, the few women are only there as trophies, decorative pieces of meat or weak pseudo heroes, people of color rarely play a big part and the only character development we get is "normal human becomes super human"... This movie takes a stab at all that and it's hilarious. Who doesn't find it hilarious? The people that are used to rooting for those typical white male 'heroes' ;)

It could have been a great docu series
11 October 2020
... but instead it wasn't even clear if it was with actual real people or fake with actors. The way it was set up was weird. And the focus on dating is bizarre, why not focus on the rest of university life? I wasn't able to watch it beyond the two bros in the gym discussing female classmates like they were pieces of meat.

But yay for deaf representation in film? #missedopportunity

A missed opportunity
16 September 2020
With a little bit of imagination (not too much to ask from the creators of an animation film for children?) this could have been so much better. Now it just falls short. The boy character was very pushy, did not accept that no is no and still got his 'prize', the girl. A completely outdated character probably pushed through by someone in the film crew with issues. A terrible message to feed to young girls and boys. Do not recommend.

Very flat in all respects
16 September 2020
The dialogues, seperate scenes, storyline and 'message' are all terribly on the nose. There's very few genuine moments or emotions. There's nothing new or remotely exciting about the whole thing. And the cherry on top for me was the propaganda for keeping big cats in cages in zoos. Joe Exotic, was this you?
