Hostel: Part III (2011 Video)
5/10
So close, yet so far...
27 December 2011
Hostel: Part III could be so named for the three main points that set it apart from its predecessors.

One: the departure from Slovakia to Vegas. Ultimately, this turns out to be a good decision. Bringing the chaos closer to home (for us Americans) adds an effective layer of chill and gives us something fresh and new to work with, as opposed to churning out what could have been basically a remake of the original film. At times the nostalgia of the foreign setting was missed, but ultimately I accept it as a wise choice.

Two: Roth is out, Spiegel is in. The change in direction is noticed heavily, and in the end I was disappointed and left wishing Eli Roth had never given up the reigns.

Three: Straight to DVD. This, also, was a change that was noticed for all the wrong reasons.

The film kicks off with a highly interesting opening scene with a twist in which our expectations are squashed and it is established that we are working with a totally new style of villain. We see that the Elite Hunting Club has progressed into something much more advanced than just a pay-to-kill deal, and while a little over-the-top, I enjoyed the new additions to the game. During the climax we are fed table-turning twist that had my heart pumping with excitement. Sadly, however, here is where my praise ends.

The torture scenes are terrible. They are all bad ideas executed very poorly. Furthermore, they are over within seconds and contain almost no gore compared to the first two (an OBVIOUS reference to the lack of budget). The cinematography is dead on arrival. Don't expect the dark and gritty look that is required for this type of film, but instead look forward to distracting brightness and elegance. And finally, the acting (spare one or two) is the worst of the series.

Overall, I give it a painfully mediocre rating of 5/10. I do, however, definitely recommend you to see it if you liked the first two. Just go into it with low expectations so you will not be let down, and look out for the unique routes the story takes instead of the torture sequences. These fresh twists and turns are bittersweet, though, because it showcases the fact that the film could have been a big success had the necessary efforts been put into it. Hostel: Part III will forever be known to me as the little film that could... but didn't.

Dead Silence (2007)
7/10
Yep. They've Done It Again.
21 March 2007
Not only does Leigh Whannel have "SAW" under his arms, but now "DEAD SILENCE".

I seen this movie today and I must say I couldn't believe what I was seeing, for three reasons.

1.)By visiting these boards before I seen it, I was expecting very little from the movie, but being a fan of the Saw crew I decided to see it, and wow, I have never been so surprised at the difference between the way people talk about this movie and its actual quality. The movie was fresh, creepy, thrilling.

2.)The directing in this movie was A+. For being so young, James is an amazing director.

3.)That twist.Haha...Woah.

The only flaws I seen what that the acting wasn't all that great..But I guess it would be hard to pull off the fact that you actually believe puppets are after you. Also I thought it started off a bit too quickly.

But if I were you, I wouldn't listen to anyone's opinion and just see this for yourself. You will be surprised.

7/10.

Premonition (I) (2007)
8/10
Surprised and Happy.
19 March 2007
Well I walked into "Premonition" today expecting the worst based on the low rating here on IMDb, but throughout the course of the movie I felt my smile growing bigger and bigger.

It started off smoothly and nicely, and had some of the best directing I've seen in a while. The suspense was held together well, and all of the acting was great. There were a few good scares even.

The moment I saw the title on the poster a few months back, I thought to myself, 'How can this do anything different that the Final Destination series hasn't?' Well I was proved wrong. This movie was put together amazingly and seemed very original to me.

The only flaws I see with this movie is that you seen the end coming from 3/4 through the movie, and I sympathized more at the beginning of the film rather then the end. But all in all, PREMONITION is a must see. 8/10.

Saw II (2005)
10/10
Surprised and Impressed
25 November 2005
From the moment I stepped in,to the moment I walked out of the theater,I did not speak. This movie took my breath away and through me for some spins.I am very surprised and impressed that a sequel was as good as the original.

The plot was good. The twist was good. The opening was breathtaking.Even the trailers were great. The most horrifying scene in cinema history is the "Venus Fly Trap".Its one of those things you cannot get out of your mind. The gun trap was creative. The oven trap made ME burn. The needle pit was cringe-worthy.The glass box trap was extremely interesting. The twist was so unexpected.

There are only a few things that disappointed me.The fact that there was not any more traps and the fact that we couldn't have heard all of the tapes.I also didn't like that the trailers for this movie were so revealing. But other than that, this movie was perfect. It for sure broke the curse that sequels are worse than the original.I am definitely rooting for 3.

Amazing
23 May 2005
Warning: Spoilers
This movie opens with one of the most exciting scrolls yet.Followed by that is an even more exciting space battle which puts you into a starship. Its very colorful! The lightsaber battles were rather short but there were about 5 or 6 different battles,Instead of the usual 1 or 2.When the clones turned on the Jedi it was very emotional and you felt their pain! The Most disappointing things were the deaths of the Jedi Masters on the Council. They were WAY to easy deaths for a "jedi master" to even be considered real. Also,General Grievous death by a blaster was awfully disappointing.Anakin's transition into Darth Vader is very terrifying, especially for the younger fans.Definitely the best one yet.If I had to describe this movie in one word,I would say:Spectacular.
