What If...?: What If... Thor Were an Only Child? (2021)
Exactly what I expected
It had to be funny. It's Thor! The Thor movies were always the most humorous, with the exception of Guardians of the Galaxy of course. I enjoyed it for the light hearted entertainment it was. If you want serious and heartbreaking re-watch the Dr. Strange episode. Both worked for me for different reasons.
Endeavour: Rocket (2013)
Dysfunctional Family Indeed
I've seen both Morse and Lewis more than once. I had chosen not to watch Endeavour until now. I have enjoyed it very much so far, particularly the pilot episode.
Early in this episode Nora says "the lights turned green for me when I asked them to." My mind immediately went to The Lion in Winter and Katharine Hepburn's line (as Eleanore) saying that the Channel went flat for her when she asked it to. A quick look at the character names showed Henry, Richard, Johnny and Alice Vexin. It appears Russell Lewis shares my love of the film.
I can say I enjoyed the episode but not as much as I hoped or as much as the episodes preceding it. The acting by the main cast was as usual quite good. I also thought Jenny Seagrove was excellent. The story itself was the problem for me.
Still looking forward to watching the remaining episodes.
The Brokenwood Mysteries: Something Nasty in the Market (2021)
Enjoyable Series
I enjoyed this episode, although I did think it became obvious who the killer was a bit too soon. In contrast with another review here, I like seeing the recurring characters. I believe Brokenwood is a small town and it makes sense you would meet the same people often. Gives a sense of community.
Hawaii Five-0: Kahania (2015)
Lots of action plus emotional ending
I am currently rewatching the entire Hawaii Five-O series. As with any series, some episodes are better than others. I put this one in the good column. Michael Imperioli was back for guest shot. There was a twist that changed perspectives. I don't really get the bad reviews. It's so easy to turn it off or switch channels if it's not to your taste.
Hawaii Five-0: Ki'ilua (Deceiver) (2011)
Fun adventure
I thoroughly enjoyed the episode. I never understand the reviews that talk about how unrealistic the stories are. To me film and TV are escapism, meant to entertain. If I want realism I'll look for documentaries.
The guest cast was a treat for me too. Terry O'Quinn, David Keith and Jimmy Buffett all just added to a much enjoyed show.
Death in Paradise: Now You See Him, Now You Don't (2020)
Actor or the character?
I watched through to the end of the season hoping Neville would get less annoying. I can't even watch reruns of those episodes. I was already struggling with the character Ruby. I will revisit earlier episodes from time to time, but the combination of two such irritating characters means no more Death in Paradise for me.
