Anyone But You (2023)
So Fun!
In a time where the "good" (theatrical) romcoms seem to be dying out, "Anyone But You" restores my hope in the genre. Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney are fantastic in the film. I had so much fun watching this movie! It was hilarious and heartfelt and the characters had great chemistry. This film pays homage to the classic romcom formula but in a fresh and modern way. This film had the movie theater laughing out loud at numerous occasions. "Anyone But You" is also gorgeous to watch because of the setting and the cinematography. There are many scenes that are very pretty to the eye. Overall, I loved "Anyone But You" and can't wait to watch it again!
Luck (2022)
Traditional Animated Storytelling
Before going before watching the film, I wasn't sure what to expect or how high my expectations should be. Upon finishing the movie, I guess I should've know with John Lassiter involved that I'd get brought to tears. I was excited about the premise of this movie when I first heard about it. My only "gripe" about the film is that it feels like there is so much going on that you don't always get a chance to breathe before the next "event" but I would say that mirrors the message of the movie. The animation is beautiful and the voice talents are spectacular. I look forward to seeing more animated projects from Apple TV in the future. "Luck" was a fun refreshing film that I would definitely watch again.
Turning Red (2022)
A metaphorical masterpiece disguised in comedy, heart, and relatability
I'm not gonna lie, I was a little worried about this movie when I saw the first trailer but I was pleasantly surprised. This movie is a metaphorical masterpiece disguised with comedy, heart and relatability. I was laughing out loud within the first five minutes of the movie and heavily invested from the start. I hope everyone sees this movie and enjoys it the way I did! As much as I loved being able to watch this at home right away, I think it would've been a major success to see in theaters! Disney/ Pixar hit it out of the park (again) with Turning Red!
He's All That (2021)
a classic cheesy teen rom-com
I was very excited for this movie when I heard that it was coming out (as I was a huge fan of the original) and then I was bummed about the poor reviews; but I still decided to watch it. This movie has pretty much everything that a stereotypical teen rom-com has. Is it predictable? Yes. Is it unrealistic? Yes-but what teen rom-com isn't? Was there some questionable acting? Yes! But overall I enjoyed the film for what it was: a teen rom-com. It was not nearly as good as the original material that the film is based on, but what reboot is? If you are a fan of cheesy teen rom-coms, I think you would definitely enjoy this!
Like a Boss (2020)
Not the worst but not the best
This movie was ok... I thought it started off strong and laughed several times in the first 30 minutes but then it just wasn't funny anymore. The charm left the movie and it was a little over dramatic.
Soul (2020)
Probably too deep for the kids
I watched this movie with high expectations and I was very excited as not very many new movies have come out recently. I was a little thrown off by this movie and it wasn't quite what I expected- not in a bad way or anything. This movie is very deep and definitely more of an adult movie than for kids. This movie is very heartfelt but a slow burn that is probably not appealing for younger kids. I love the message of this movie and felt that 22 and Moonwind provided much needed comedic relief. I definitely think it is more of an adult movie than a movie for younger children, but I think children will grow to appreciate it as they get older. It's a very moving film and the music is spectacular, but other than the animation it's not much a "kids movie."
Set It Up (2018)
Absolutely Awesome!
I loved this movie! I've been waiting for a charming and witty rom-com like this for so long, and this movie delivered! This movie is classic charm, romance and comedy with a great cast! Highly recommend!
Scoob! (2020)
By no means a bad movie, but a little lackluster...
This movie wasn't awful, but it didn't quite have the same Scooby pizzazz that I remember from being a child. It felt like a "Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase" wannabe. It had so much going on that I wasn't sure what direction it was trying to go. Each arc that the movie started going in would've been great if they would've finished it, but they just kept adding more. I'm sure kids will love it, but it was just mediocre in my opinion. I would love to see more of this franchise, but maybe in a more concise way. While this movie had some rough spots, the overall message was great! The friendship between the gang was just as strong in the original show, I just wish they would not have split the gang up throughout the movie. The voice work was very well done, especially for Scooby! Overall, this movie was fine and I would re-watch it (I'm sure it is will be better the second time now that I don't have any expectations), but I wish they would've just refined it a little more!
UglyDolls (2019)
Not original but not bad
Sure this movie is not super original, and yes we've seen this concept before but it's not a bad movie at all! This movie is not nearly as bad as people and critics are saying it is. This movie has one thing going for it for sure and that is the soundtrack and I think kids will love the music!
Little Italy (2018)
Pure Joy
This movie was fantastic! The Chemistry between Roberts And Christiansen is great! This movie is full of heart and it will make you smile. Highly recommend!
Fifty Shades of Black (2016)
What a guilty pleasure
This movie is not a masterpiece at all... but definitely a funny slap stick raunchy comedy!
Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019)
When did Marvel become a raunchy comedy film franchise?
Spider-Man: Far From Home was outstanding! This film is another hit from Marvel Studios. This film is HILARIOUS, and Tom Holland, Jake Gyllenhaal, Samuel L. Jackson and Zendaya are amazing. I think I liked the first film's villain better, but I think this villain was executed better. The ending of the film where Mysterio reveals Peter Parker's identity is INSANE!!!! And the pist credits scene where Nick Fury is actually Skrull!!! THIS FILM SETS UP THE FUTURE ONES BEAUTIFULLY, AND I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE.
Instant Family (2018)
Mark Whalberg hits it out of the park with another family comedy
Firat Daddy's Home and now Instant Family. Whalberg is excellent in films like this and needs to keep acting in these. This film hits you in all the right places, while it will make you laugh out loud it will also make you shed a tear at the heartfelt moments and really opens your eyes to some of the challenges of foster parenting. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give this film a watch.
Toy Story 4 (2019)
Stays True to the Original Films
This film was a beautiful film! The animation is stunning and the evolution of Pixar's animation is spectacular. This was one of my most anticipated movies of the year and if for sure met my expectations. The begining of the film is filled with nostalgia and you get a glimpse back to when the toys are with Andy and how Bo-Peep exits the toy's lives is heartbreaking. When Woody gives up his voice box to Gabby-Gabby to save Forky and keep Bonnie happy, I cried, and then when Gabby-Gabby finds the little lost girl I cried real hard. BUT, I cried most of all when all the toys are hugging Woody when he decides to join Bo-Peep as a "lost toy", but it really killed me when Buzz and Woody hug for the last time and then the film closes out with Woody and Buzz saying "to infinity and beyond" and the film ends. What a fantastic and emotional ending to a beautiful quartet of movies. The Toy Story franchise is the one franchise that as a trilogy is beautiful but that extra film makes it fantastic!
Big Little Lies (2017)
Not bad, but not as good as everyone says
By no means is this show bad, but I also don't think this show is amazing. Nothing hardly ever happens throughout this show, but on the season finale you finally have something interesting. I have started to watch season 2, but I'm only an episode in. I do have two things to say. One: the soundtrack is amazing. Two: the acting is phenomenal.... the plot though... could use some speeding up.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019)
well...
X-Men: Dark Phoenix wasn't a bad film, it just wasn't "First Class" great. This film could have been better if the writing was better. All the previous actors are great actors, but they didn't have much to work with. There was so much going on; sometimes too much. But there were so many things happening that I just didn't have time to care or be invested in these plotlines. Maybe I would have been more okay with this film if some of the choices they made had gone better, I mean HOW MANY FRICKEN FIRST CLASS X-MEN DO THEY HAVE TO KILL? Once they killed Raven, I was hoping for an emotional 5-10 minutes, but it went straight on to the next plot. And the way the film ended, there wasn't really a bitter sweet ending, it was just an ending. As a finale to a series, it wasn't the greatest, but to be fair the cast and crew did not know this would be the finale. Again, Dark Phoenix is not an awful films, it just lacks a little and felt like a Captain America Civil War wannabe.
Riverdale (2017)
Season 1 was great, after that???
Ok, so season one was great, the first half of season two was great and same with season three, but after about the 12th episode the season needs to end and begin filming for the next. Part of the reason why season one was so great was because it was short and left you wanting more, but now they are dragging out each season for 22 episodes and it needs to be cut back BIG TIME! There are too many storylines and plot holes going on.
Angel (1999)
Nearly as good as Buffy
Angel is by far one of the best spin off's ever! This show is more adult than Buffy, but still perfect for fans of the original. If binge watching : I recommend once Angel leaves (Season 3 finale) start switching off every other episode between Buffy and Angel. This show is not as good as Buffy, but only by a little. For sure give it a watch!!!
Legacies (2018)
WAY different that TVD and TO
While this show is not awful, it does take some getting used to. The formula does not follow The Vampire Diaries or The Originals, but it is not bad. Instead of a spin off it is more of it's own show that doesn't relate much. By no means is this as good as the shows predecessors, but if you look at it as it's own show with cameos from the original shows, then it is just fine. Once the villian is revealed it is gives you a Vampire Diaries feel. All in all this show is fine and a good watch, atleast watch the first season.
Dynasty (2017)
not the same as season 1
The first season was beautiful and phenominal, don't get me wrong but season 2 is just not the same with out the original Cristal from season 1. The way that they switched actors has really irritated me.
True Blood (2008)
I wanted to, but I couldn't
I wanted to like the show so much, especially after a Vampire Diaries detox, but I couldn't. The main character, Suki, is one of the worst/most annoying actors to date. Also, I got very sick of the constant sex and stuff in it, they could've dialed it back.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997)
90's nastalgia meets vampires
Let me start with this: I loved this show from the start, and even watched the first season in 1 day. the 90's nastalgia is exactly what I wanted.
A Series of Unfortunate Events (2017)
on the edge of my seat
This show from start to finish is consistantly great! season one was fantastic and near perfect. while season two is good, it is somewhat a filler season, but very much needed; season three is amazing and jam packed with secrets and answers. The show was ended beautifully, and I never would have expected the ending. please give this show more credit than it is receiving.
Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 (2012)
Season 1 was great, season 2....
Season 1 was fantastic, and laugh out loud worthy, but season 2 was just a little disappointing. but maybe it would have been like Fraiser where season 2 was bad but season 3 picked up and held strong
Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life (2016)
what else do you expect from a reboot.
Sure, its not as good as the original, but what reboot is? honestly people calm down. it was perfect to be reunited with the characters you fell in love with in the original.
