Dark Encounter (2019)
INSANE!
This is the most ridiculous film I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot of films in 72 years. I won't draw it out. Others have done that: explained the plot (?), the acting, the special effects, the lighting and so on.
I will just say that the writer of this fiasco seemingly couldn't decide if it was to be a murder mystery or a sci-fi thriller, so hey, why not make it both? The resulting film is far too long, too confusing, and simply disappointing. It wasn't until the end that I could figure out who the characters were in their relationships with each other. And by the way, who leaves an eight-year-old child at home alone?
The bottom line is that the movie could have been either one genre or the other, but both simply did not work for me. I felt let down and cheated, and SO glad I didn't pay for this nonsense.
Last Seen in Idaho (2018)
Wasted Time
First of all, the title misled me. I expected this film to be about a missing person. Having seen it I now suspect the story was more about a missing movie-goer in Boise. A young woman with a shady past who is trying to get her life together inadvertently witnesses a murder and the murderers are aware that she saw it. They spend the rest of the movie trying to kill her.
I usually realize I'm in trouble when a movie has an entire cast I've never seen before, although occasionally I am happily surprised. Not this time. The male stars were not too bad but the two female leads, Hallie Shepherd and Alexis Monnie, were simply terrible. I've seen better acting in a middle school drama club.
Aside from the bad acting, "Last Seen in Idaho" contained far too much violence for me. A little smidgen of violence with a strong plot and lots of suspense goes a lot further than overkill. Non-stop shoot-em-up and blow-it-up scenes leave me cold and extremely depressed. This was certainly not my kind of film. Next time I'll watch Miss Marple.
