A must see, I hope there will be justice for the Kowalski Family
22 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
What a heartwrenching documentary, as a European I am again and again stunned and disgusted by the legal-/medical system in the US, it seems like profit is the only motivator, families are being destroyed, innocent people go to jail because they are wrongly accused of a crime, just because an "expert" writes a horrendously wrong report. The motive is clearly to keep a child as long as possible in expensive hospital care and CPS care and to make as much profit as possible, without consideration for the parents who are suffering immensely. I feel so bad for Maya, she has suffered more than enough for a lifetime, I hope this movie ignites a re-investigation and that the hospital and so called experts are being held accountable.

Swarm (2023)

Amazing show, great script/cast/direction/visual and emotional experience
19 March 2023
I was sceptical at first, as it's always interesting to see a show having either the best or the worst star-ratings. After watching the trailer, it was obvious it is topically connecte to a certain celebrity. But you don't have to be a supporter of said celebrity (at all) to appreciate this movie..the rant in one specific scene is epic, Swarm deserves all the awards, just for that, I truly enjoyed it. It is a surprising series, leaving me wanting more (seasons). What the writers/producers/directors/actors did here is simply fantastic. It wil take you on a beautiful strange emotionally charged visual roller coaster ride you will surely enjoy. After a certain episode (not mentioning which, as not to spoil it for anyone) it simply blew my mind. I binged it, might watch it again, and hope there will be more like this!

Great documentary, Spaz is an amazing artist
1 January 2023
This documentary is amazing. For everyone, but especially for people born in the 70ies or early 80ies, who saw movies like Jurassic Park at the theatre as a teenager or young adult. I remember being amazed by the dinosaur scenes and CGI of Jurassic Park, I went to see it twice at the local theatre. It is mind-blowing to see the back story to the events around the creation of the movie in this very personal and intimate documentary.

What an amazing artist he is and was. What he went through would break the spirit of most, I am glad he is where he is at today, it takes a lot of strength and courage! I am thankful to the filmmakers for taking the time to tell his story, it touched me deeply. As it is said in the film "That's the gift of getting older. You allow yourself to make big mistakes, like really big mistakes, and going through the wrong door and finding your way out - that's where the gold is."

This film helps the world to see who the real artists were creating those amazing movies and insane special effects, and how they were being used and mistreated by their "superiors".

A must watch.

Tyler is a treasure
12 March 2022
I've already watched (and loved) hollywood medium and I am so happy to see Tyler in action on screen again, he is amazing and a true treasure. It is great to see him help so many people find some answers and peace throgh his readings. I could watch him every day and the "side story" of Life after Death, his own family history and findings regarding unknown parts of his (and his mom's) family history is unexpected and very interesting. I binged it and can't wait to see more of Tyler and his amazing gift he shares with the world. He is one of the rare ones who is legit and his positive energy is so beautiful to watch.

It's a shame how those innocent men are being treated
26 November 2021
After watching this documentary, I feel so sad for the 5 men who are being held in prison for years, even though they are obviously innocent. It is a scandal and I hope this documentary will have some effect and helpt all those innocent people to come free.

I wonder if an international human rights organization could help and why they haven't helped already.

The story is well told, and you learn a lot about the political and governmental system in Mexico, which is destroying lives of innocent and good people every day. It is scary, that you can be taken by mexican police at any time and put in jail without having commited a crime. Even if there is evidence and witnesses, you will be treated/prosecuted like there weren't any. This system is horrible and very scary.

It's OK, but Kung Fu Hustle was better
13 October 2021
It's OK, there are some story-holes, which are probably in place because they want to make a second season. All in all it has an appealing (sometimes comic) korean movie aesthetic, but I liked Kung Fu Hustle (2004) much better.

Entertaining movie with a great cast
1 May 2021
I really enjoyed this movie! Although the story is not too surprising, the movie has a rather fast pace (a lot of things happen in a very short time), therefore it doesn't get boring and the characters are well portrayed by a really great cast! I loved the characters, the movie portrays a range of people you wouldn't want to be friends with in real life, but they are shown through such a loving and uplifting lense, you can't help but like their quirky and sometimes questionable characters.

Beautiful and important message behind it..
29 April 2021
I thought I would see a horror movie, but it turned out to be so much more. I really liked the message behind it, very important, beautiful and also very sad. The cinematic combination of art/symbols/signs is well executed, I especially loved the performances of Rhea Seehorn and Amanda Seyfried. The story is being laid out slowly and takes you on a journey through time, spiritual connections and art. The twists are surprising, but very subtle - I know it sounds weird, but this is part of why the movie is so amazing. Even though it is set in the late 70ies/early 80ies, it bears a message so true to many real stories, now and in the past. Because of you, our powers grow, from tiny drops into an endless sea..indeed.

It tries too hard to copy the genius of "Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf"
7 February 2021
The movie tries way too hard to recreate the tension/magic/dialog of the classic masterpiece "who's afraid of Virginia Woolf" and fails massively. We watch a mess of a relationship which should have been ended long ago, they play mindgames with each other where no one is the winner, he is obviously dependent on her, she is too immature to leave him. Throughout the whole movie I screamed "Leave him! Please just go and be on your own!" in my mind constantly. It was painful to watch at some point. Zendaya's performance is stellar, John David Washington and his character Malcolm are hard to endure and his screaming fits are incredibly annoying and unnecessary (and way overacted). All in all it did no leave a lasting impression, it is nowhere near the genius of Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf...unfortunately. I hoped for more.

Black Is King (2020)
1/10
One of the worst "movies" I ever watched
7 August 2020
Black is King is one of the worst "movies" I ever watched, I don't get what the message should be. Cinematography is less than mediocre, the director(s) is clearly lacking professional knowledge and talent, the "acting" is really bad and the claim to be art is just ridiculous. It seems to be a overproduced vanity peace for silly costumes, nonsense quotes and a protagonist who is so out of touch and unable to realize what's really going on in the world right now. Very weird time to release a vanity piece like "Black is King". In my opion, Beyonce is overrated and has been for years.

Messiah (2020)

Not as focused on religion as I feared
4 January 2020
I binged the Messiah as it came out, as I was desperately looking for something to watch, and I wasn't disappointed. First I re-considered it as I feared it would have to much of a religious touch to it, but gave it a shot anyway. It is not at all about one certain religion, the "sermons" or religious speeches are also not too many and what is said is actually interesting and holds true for many people of many different religions. I was asking myself, what would happen if a Messiah would really appear one day, or if Gandhi would be doing his peaceful protest today, would the government attack with all its military power? The series leaves a lot of room for interpretation and it could go on in any direction (the end suggests there might be another season coming). It is well played, but sometimes the backstory scenes/dialogues/backflashes are too long, some of them make it appear a bit slow/boring during the middle episodes, but later takes on speed again. All in all an interesting watch, recommendable for everyone, not just people with philosophical interest in religious theories.

Well done mockumentary
4 January 2020
I enjoyed watching this mockumentary more than I thought, it is well thought-through, characters are interesting and it's funny - not hilarious, but it made me laugh. I didn't know any of the actors before I saw "New Eden", which helped me getting into the illusion of watching a real story/documentary. The scene at the very end could be a little bit more refined, but all in all it is a story you could believe really happened. The cameo-like real-celebrity appearances in the "old footage" are also fun to watch. I can only recommend "New Eden".

What a gem of a movie
21 December 2019
I did not expect much going into watching this movie but I was surprised by the well written storyline and the unexpected turns this movie takes. I loved it - not only because I think Cate Blanchett is one of the best actresses of this century, but the movie touched me deeply. It's not the common hollywood-type-of-predictable-script, I think that might be the reason some people/critics call it boring/slow, it's not. I will definitely watch it again and Cate Blanchett deserves all the awards for her performance of Bernadette. The rest of the cast is stellar too, which makes it a beautiful experience and takes you into Bernadette's world for almost two hours. I didn't want it to end and I hope to see much more like this from Richard Linklater, what a writer/director!

Beautiful and touching tale about desire and love
21 December 2019
What a beautiful movie, with mainly female cast/characters, of which all are stellar in their performance - the movie touched me deeply. Also the costumes were impeccable, I went to 18th Century France for two hours and got to feel the desire and passion that fuel this unique love story. It will stay with me for a long time - thank you

Dead to Me (2019–2022)

Dark story, well played
5 May 2019
The storyline is not too surprising, from the end of episode 1, beginning of episode 2 I already knew what the "main twist" would be, but that doesn't matter, as the story is told in an appealing way and the characters are played well (if not excellent/perfect if looking at Christina Applegate's performance, she's just amazing). It is funny and sad and emotional and twisted, also it appears as it was planned to go on for at least one more seasons, so I am looking forward to seeing season 2 of dead to me soon.

Watch it until the end
14 September 2018
After watching the first half of the first episode, I thought I must stop as it did not really speak to me. But I kept watching and after finishing the third episode I was very intrigued, in a good way, and couldn't stop anymore. Forever is a (beautifully shot) meditation on life and relationships, in a not very conventional way. Especially one certain scene (no spoilers here, but it's in one of the last episodes) is so beautiful, I could watch it on repeat for the rest of my life.
