I love movies. Mostly sci-fi and psychological thrillers.

The Art of the Steal (2013)
Need a good laugh with a mystery and crime flavor?
This was just a shocker and a giant surprise of a movie. I didn't see any advertising for this flick but rented it as it looked good and I liked the cast members. Boy was I in for a treat. Not only is the acting just great but the humor abounds in this film without mindless killing, sex and cussing. It felt good just seeing an authentic, high brow, heist show with a crew of guys who just mesh perfectly.
Things are not as they seem and I indulge you to please not read too much about this movie before seeing as it as too many spoilers will make the movie experience a bit flat. This movie is about surprise and twists all done with class. I paid very close attention to the planning and dialogue which made the entire ending come together in a crescendo of guttural laughter and one the best GOTCHA moments I have seen in a movie in a long time.
If you have kids in the house I can tell you that there is some swearing but nothing they are not already hearing in school. It's great for most ages over 12 and demands a group. This movie will generate discussion after viewing as well as laughter from the start. I had to write this review seeing as the ones already on here are not so well put and who needs to know what the movie is about when what anyone wants to really know is "what can I expect" from this flick.
Just don't let the funny stuff foll you. Pay close attention to the setup, execution and the conversations. Some of the most innocent scenes play right into the master plot!
The English Teacher (2013)
Charm, Humor, Romance and Growing Up
The music, acting and lights are great. This is a family flick with a suggested sex scene so use your judgment. Aside from that it is a tale of growing up in life. Not just as high school children but as adults who have some growing up to do but who are fighting hard to hold that rigid line we often find ourselves inside of adulthood.
The movie paces itself very nice and offers a great deal in the way of humorous scenes that give way to their charming side in the way the actors portray the characters and in the delivery of the lines. I felt a real connection to the cast as they are all examples of myself at some point in life and I think many people can identify with them. I generally am very picky about these types of films as it falls in the category of romantic comedy which often use a tired old formula and offer nothing much int he way of humility and the smart look on real world activities. You will not see any bar scenes, pool halls, dancing and drugs. No hot steamy kissy face or romps around the bedroom.
Best put the romance is subtle but present while always an heir of fun is ongoing making the serious scenes feel lighter with hope for better things to come around the corner!
Holy Ghost People (2013)
Date night movie!
Redemption comes to those who seek and others without them even knowing it.
One review on here says you are best knowing less about the movie but that really is true for any good thriller, drama and suspenseful movie. Within the title you are already wondering just what your in for let alone what the subject matter might encompass.
To tell you why you may want to see this all I want to ask you is:
1. Do you like suspense and surprises? 2. DO you like learning about the characters as the story unfolds? 3. Do you enjoy when the atmosphere is set to the tone of the scene? 4. Do you like southern accents?
If you answered yes this movie will be wonderful. Taking place in the southern US on in a small town you get know some folks who have possibly not had the best in life and need more from it. We were very surprised by the quality of the camera work, the acting is superb and the cast/roles make the atmosphere something you can never really put a finger on and keeps you guessing until the end. This is a gem of movie for for fans of cop dramas, who done it's, southern style scares and country folk.
Haunter (2013)
A masterpirece of a psychological thriller / ghost story!
10 Stars, A+, Superbly crafted! I am sure the dolts making these mid range reviews were looking for more of the typical gore and torture fest that has blighted the big screen for so long now.
From the word GO you are in for a treat of the who, what, why and how from start to finish. At no time could I look away as I was trying to see why the story was unfolding as it did and trying to figure out the timeline of events. This is not a Jacob's Ladder type of dilemma but a well done "Sixth Sense" styling.
You may or may not know what's coming at the end. I for one had to bide my time from jumping to conclusions and the team who put this together did an excellent job in unfolding the story in such a way as to keep you guessing, keep you cheering for the hero, keep you in suspense at what spooky surprise is coming next.
From chills and thrills to heart touching and family oriented scenes I found myself in moments of glee and suddenly utter fright and panic but not due to some gory, bloody has-been horror crap but for the heroine and the dilemma she faces throughout the this cinema piece! This is best enjoyed when your in the mood for a shocker, a who done it or a good old fashioned Poltergeist kind of flick. The acting is spot on, the lighting was outstanding and the actors themselves were either chosen and loved their roles or the director was driving them hard as you cannot find fault in any sequence. The general pace of the movie is much like a walk through a dark forest at night and alone with each sound causing your pulse to race and your eyes jump around! The movies I reference in this review by the way are also the ones that came to mind for me while I was immersed in this mysterious world.
Bad Country (2014)
Bad Country is Great Movie
A roundhouse kick to the usual cop flick. I was glued to the screen as the story builds from what appears to be a typical police drama to biting, suspenseful and dynamic plotting. You would find this movie as a cross between Serpico, Jack Ryan and Miami Vice. Although I say Miami Vice in the way they present the slick characters but without the ridiculous special effects that don't occur in real life. On top of this the development of the story and the twists from who is feeding information from one agency to another and one gangster to another you have to pay close attention. The pacing is flawless as momentum just keeps building and the story lines fall into place. I have felt let down by so many unrealistic cop flicks that are gun heavy, violence heavy and let's face it, a farce from what is the typical and realistic operations. So if your looking for a show that delivers top down, gritty mafia style take-down movie you just found your answer!
Cold Comes the Night (2013)
My Reaction
I loved it! The reviews on here (many tell you the whole movie). But I loved this flick. You are drawn to the characters and kept wondering what will happen next. If you like a good story based on real life drama mixed with a wild-card such as the Russian showing up in a single mothers life, you will love this movie like I did. This is an adult movie as the youth seem to like the loud, ultra violent stuff that is more unreal and sick but this film provides everything in a pace that feels so right for such wrong events. There is enough suspense and mystery to keep you drawn into the story and asking who will benefit from these events.
