Torchwood (2006–2011)
9/10
a cool sci fi show
12 February 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I have always liked Torchwood and for awhile I wondered why. From reading all the comments posted here, a lot explore Torchwood in a negative light. It is quite understandable given the first couple of episodes ( like any show, it was trying to find it's footing) but the second part of the season comes together nicely as the story lines are tighter and the audience knows the characters much better and they shape into multidimensional characters that you can understand and relate to.

Torchwood is a character driven show, and unlike many shows - these characters aren't just glazed over or simplified to make the audience like them. No, they are real characters who are just as flawed (or even more so) than you average person. They make many mistakes giving the audience an uncensored view into the characters lives much different to glossy American shows.

If you haven't already see season 2 - it will not disappoint. Spoilers are below.

---

With a relationship with Ianto, Jack finds himself still having feelings for Gwen even though she is very unavailable at this moment.

Tosh is dealing with her loneliness (that has put her into many questionable situations before) and she has grown up. She still holds the flame for another member of the team but Tosh is now stronger, less naive - will she do something about it now? Ianto fully develops as a character and the 'filler' character we see season one disappears as he is finally fleshed out.

Give season 2 a chance. It won't disappoint!!

Blind Dating (2006)
2/10
Doesn't know what it wants to be
5 July 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Is it supposed to be a romantic comedy, a drama about interracial dating or perhaps a feel good story about a blind man wanting to see and finding something special instead? This movie is a train wreck and though it initially seems like a good concept, the execution is way off!! After watching this movie, I am still confused about what the viewer is supposed to see? It doesn't entertain (there are a lot of movies out there that do the same thing less painfully), it doesn't provide a message and it doesn't even excel at being a good romantic comedy. It seems that through using an old clichéd storyline (blind guy falls in love), a twist is put upon this but whether that pays off, really is a different story.

'Blind Dating' chronicles the life of a blind man, Johnny who at 22 realizes that he has yet to fall in love. After a string of horrible blind dates, he falls in love with a receptionist at the clinic which he is going to, she happens to be Indian, and therefore drama ensues.

I would recommend seeing this movie only if you are extremely bored or there is nothing else to watch. After watching this movie, I have wasted an hour or so of my time which I won't get back. The writer should have really done many more rewrites in this script, and although the execution of this movie begs you to like it - at the end you are left with nothing but an big empty hole.

Poster Boy (2004)
10/10
A really interesting movie!
31 March 2007
Most reviews for this movie are quite negative, and I guess I am in the minority when I say this - but this movie was fantastic!!! It is not your traditional gay movie, actually it doesn't really have much of a gay focus which might annoy some people. It's more a coming of age story and is relate-able to everyone, no matter what your sexual orientation is. At first the plot of this movie might seem to move along too slowly, but that is simply to establish the characters and setting of the movie which is something that has to be done to fully appreciate this movie. When you look back on the movie, you do realize how everything fits in together perfectly, now that you know everything, although it might seem a little bit muddled halfway through the movie.

Some other users have commented on the movie not being multi dimensional, but I think that the way that the characters reacted are pretty realistic, and most people (generally) are multi dimensional but may only show one side of their selves for one reason or another, and don't forget that this movie is focused from the point of view of Henry Kray. It also has many plot twists, and though it has be commented upon that it is too predictable, I thought nothing of the sort. The characters are oddly unpredictable, and are like multi layered onions, many people might just look it and observe that is it just another gay movie, but it is not, it is so much more than that.

Very enjoyable
11 February 2006
This is one of the funniest movies around, the dialogue is so funny and it doesn't make them sound like they are child geniuses ( think Dawson's Creek), or have no personality like most teen flicks around. In this movie the characters actually have depth and they are not just your average cookie cutter characters.

Chase is a funny, sarcastic outcast who is asked to go to the prom with Miss Teen Spirit, Nicole - a perky blonde (who is actually quite smart), as her date for the prom has backfired and now she has resorted to go with him rather than to go alone. Chase is stuck going with her in attempt to make his ex girlfriend jealous enough so that she will want him back. They both get to know each other again and realize so much that they never knew before.

Sure this film might be considered a little dated in some of the scenes but the appeal of Adrian Grenier and the underlying messages in the film are more than enough to make you like it. Melissa Joan Hart looks too old to be playing a teenager but Adrian Grenier is very good as Chase Hammond, he brings character and depth into his character and is very convincing.

No other teen movies are very much like this anymore, Cinderella Story, How to Deal, Raise your voice don't even compare to this movie. It has a lot of heart, and the characters are very likable and believable. Don't let the age of the movie fool you, it is really one of the better teen flicks around.

Unrequited love at it's best
3 January 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Set in a courtroom style drama about the death of a local fisherman, Carl Steine. There is flashback techniques used to covey the subplot and to link it back to the present day drama.

The local newspaper editor, Ishamel Chambers is covering the story not only with professional interest but with personal interest as well. Years ago when he was a child, Ishamel was in love with his neighbor, a Japanese American girl named Hatsue. The historical context of this time is during the Pearl Harbour attack where there is great hostility towards the Japanese in America. The sub story of the innocent childhood romance between Hatsue and Ishamel is explored in it's entirely throughout the film. Ishamel loves Hatsue but due to the circumstances surrounding them, she is sent off to a holding facility in California. There, she writes a letter calling off her engagement with him, her reasons cited as she is not sure whether she truly loves him or not.Whilst there she meets a Japanese man, Kazou and falls in love with him. Meanwhile Ishamel is over fighting in the war.

While he is fighting underwater, his arm is injured and has to be amputated. Ishamel blames Kastue for his amputated arm as he was thinking of her tragic letter as the fighting had occurred. When he comes back to his hometown ( now in the 1950's) he hopes to rekindle their relationship but in a tragic twist she is married to that Japanese man, Kazou. Ishamel is devastated with the loss of losing his arm and now with losing his only love. In attempt of closure, he asks her to hold him one last time, which she rejects as she is now married and has a husband. Another reason why she rejects this is that it was asked as a favor from him which leads the audience to question whether or not she really loved him, as proved by the letter which renounced their relationship and spoke of truths which indicates that Katsue had never loved him.

Ishamel has now discovered evidence which can free her husband from Jail and he now has a morals dilemma of whether to submit this piece of evidence or not. He is conflicted, as he wants to not submit the evidence so that he may be with Katsue again or submit the evidence and go with his moral judgment and not be with Katsue but stay true to his principals installed within him by his once alive father.

Ishamel must decide on what to do and whether to do the right thing, or to do the wrong thing and revive the possibility of getting the only thing that he has ever wanted.

Constantine (2005)
10/10
See it for yourself
28 December 2005
Warning: Spoilers
On this site, everyone is bashing Constantine but I can't honestly understand why. This is a wonderful movie, which I have seen twice. It relys mainly on fantasy which leads the movie to have the tag line, hell wants him, heaven can can't take him, earth needs him. This is entirely true in this movie, John Constantine has been dead for minutes and had experienced the displeasure of hell. Now Constantine is trying to buy his way into heaven, by doing acts such as exorcisms and battling the half bred demons which walk the earth.

This is actually a very interesting movie, which will keep you guessing. Keanu Reeves does a good job acting as John Constantine. It may be Constantines character which lets him down as he is the untypical anti-hero. Yet Keamu delivers his lines convincingly and his performance is stellar throughout the film.

This movie is very good and I would recommend seeing it.

Coach Carter (2005)
10/10
One of the best movies around
24 October 2005
This movie isn't just about sport but has an underlying moral message which is been shown throughout the film. Sport won't get you far unless your a great but study and hard work in school will get you everywhere. Enter, a town that is quite poor and a basketball team who just want to win. Once Ken Carter accepts the job, the whole team changes and it is for the better. Another message this film teaches is respect, at the beginning just after meeting the boys, Ken expresses a need for the boys to show respect not only for themselves but for their friends and elders. He does this by explaining how the word 'nigger' can be used as a degrading term and how by dressing themselves with respect, behaving respectfully isn't bad at all.

As soon as I saw this film, I knew that I wanted to see it. It has everything that makes a great movie, action, great dialog and most importantly, a good moral message and in a time where morally corrupt movies are on the rise, a great movie like this is a rare find.

Intiallly, my friends didn't want to see this movie with me as they thought it was boring, and too intense but after months and months of waiting, I finally hired it out on DVD and watched it.

You can actually take things away from this movie and it has a very good morals which can be applicable to everyone.
