Rec 3 - A triple wreck
23 July 2012
First two movies were serious, found footage shot, and scary. This movie is a campy and gory silly bit of fluff, that I ended up skipping ahead to see if it got better. It didn't. Nice zombie effects, but the silliness of some scenes just ruins what I look for in a movie, immersion.

The first part of the movie starts out well, with "found footage" coverage of a wedding. But when the camera suddenly becomes "movie", that is when things begin to go downhill. I skipped thru the second half of the movie, as I had lost interest, but there are a few good scenes, and out of nowhere, some intense gore.

The movie should have been called Zombie Wedding, as it really has nothing to do with Rec 1 and 2 (despite some lame attempts to link them).

Another failed Sci-Fi movie, should have been on SyFy
20 May 2012
..Hopefully Prometheus will rescue us from the lame Sci-Fi = SyFy we have been dealt over the last few years. For Luc Besson to claim "an original idea" is an offense to any fan, this movie STEALS from other movies, and does a poor imitation. If it had at least been more bad a$$, instead of lamely joke cracking every 5 seconds, it could have redeemed itself. But instead, this "movie" comes off like a very long video game cut scene, and not a good one. This movie makes me want to watch some good movies that this movie rips off: Fortress, The Fifth Element, Die Hard, and many others. ..This movie goes into the forgettable bin, watch it once, then forget it. ..I enjoy Guy Pearce in most roles, but he was a bad Bruce Willis imitation in this one, I kept waiting for him to walk on glass barefoot... ..This "movie" makes me want to rewatch the following: --Alien, Aliens --Impostor (great Gary Sinise Sci-Fi movie) --Cargo (German Sci-Fi, give it a try!) --just about any movie!

Everythign that is wrong with America, some truly sick stuff.

For a detailed review that spells out the horrors of this poop and vomit filled "movie", go here: http://tiny.cc/m73b1 -- Read that review and hopefully save yourself the psychological damage of watching this garbage. Even in my hardest partying college days, I cannot imagine that I would enjoy this level of toilet humor. If you think you are going to see some idiots in shopping carts crashing into each other, think again. Instead you will find a movie that involves feces over and over again, as these morons try and gross each other (and you) out so bad that everyone throws up. I just read this movie made $20 million in one day, I am once again embarrassed to be an American.

What the ? First half of movie starts well, second half is lame.
4 October 2010
Warning: Spoilers
* May contain some generic spoilers * As a huge fan of sci-fi and horror, this movie should have been right up my alley, however, this movie is, like the genetics involved, a failed splice of sci-fi and horror. I began watching the movie completely in the dark, so the first sci-fi hour was quite enjoyable (with some flaws), but once the "specimen" grew up into a mostly human and attractive female, the movie made an attempt to shift from sci-fi to creepy horror movie, and I was kicked out of the movie harshly in disbelief (the barn dance scene) and I gave up on the movie at this point and hit the eject button. I have better things to do with my time, like watch better movies.

I am not sure which of the two scientists I lost credibility with first, but Elsa's death wish behavior throughout the first half of the movie annoyed me the most, and then the barn dance lost it for me for Clive.

I may watch the second half of the movie some day, but probably not.

Whiny, Boring, Whiny, Boring (repeat)...
8 August 2010
A serious warning, if you are on anti-depressants, do not watch this movie.

Gave up after 1 hour into this "movie", ejected the DVD and snapped it in half, and then into fourths, just to make sure I never accidentally start to watch this awful waste of life movie again. Roger (Ben Stiller) and Florence (Greta Gerwig) are two annoying whiny wishy-washy people that alternate between intercourse and arguing without rhyme or reason, and I simply could not bear another scene of these two whiners that began around the 60 minute mark.

Reminds me of a SNL skit "The Whiners", which was kinda funny for the first minute of the sketch, but then got old real quick. This movie seems to last 4 hours but has a runtime of 107 minutes, and I only watched the first 60...

I am now officially adding Ben Stiller to my list of never watch a movie with them starring again, which includes Adam Sandler, Will Ferrel, Eddie Murphy, John Travolta, Nicolas Cage, Jessica Alba, and Jim Carrey. Eight of the least interesting, least funny, and least watchable actors on the planet.

Graphic designer Milton Glaser has a great quote about healthy vs toxic friendships:

"There is a test to determine whether someone is toxic or nourishing in your relationship with them. Here is the test: You have spent some time with this person, either you have a drink or go for dinner or you go to a ball game. It doesn't matter very much but at the end of that time you observe whether you are more energized or less energized. Whether you are tired or whether you are exhilarated. If you are more tired then you have been poisoned. If you have more energy you have been nourished."

With this in mind, Roger Greenberg (aka Ben Stiller), take a hike, you are poison, and I never want to see you again.

A nice "hero" movie, I had a good time.
29 July 2010
After the huge disappointment of Kick-Ass, I was pleasantly surprised by this little film from Russia. Don't want to give anything away, as I watched it knowing nothing about the movie and that was the best way to watch it. Sure, it borrows heavily from other hero movies, but the acting and the old fashioned heroics were enjoyable.

Special effects I found to be excellent, especially some of the smoke trails. The bad guy in this movie is the same bad guy from the Nightwatch/Daywatch movies, also highly recommended.

If you want to chuckle a bit, and have a few moments where you smile and murmur "Cool!", and want to root for the good guy to win the girl in the end, then I can recommend this movie.

Very overrated, left me feeling "meh".
25 July 2010
Was looking forward to this movie even though Nicolas Cage is in it (wow, he really can stink up a movie), and unfortunately, it was a case of seen that done better in almost every scene.

There were about 20 times in this movie where it just did something stupid, or without proper character motivation, or just plain lame dialog. I lost interest towards the end, and was glad when it was over, as the finale was silly and violent, a bad combination.

That this movie is in the top 250 is an insult to intelligence, it really is becoming the world of Idiocracy (look up that movie).

I wouldn't recommend the movie, simply because the movie does not work as a feature film. Some short bits with Hit-Girl would be alright, or a short YouTube video would be acceptable, but as an almost two hour film, it simply does not hold together. And thank you once again Nicolas Cage, for totally stinking up the scenes you were in. How can this guy get several movies a year? Idiocracy indeed.

To the writers of this "movie" - Shame on you, find another occupation.

The Good: Action scenes were fast and furious.

The Bad : Everything else, the script, the dialog, the story, the acting.

Watch one random episode of the TV show Supernatural, and you would have a better show about Angels and Demons. In between the action scenes, this movie was plain boring, with stereotypes and false emotions. The tiny bit of story they told was generic and the nonsensical ending was pulled out of someone's rear (Deus Ex Machina).

Dennis Quaid must have needed a new swimming pool to do this turkey of a movie...bah! Think of all the people in Haiti that could have been helped instead of wasting money on this dud.

Warning: Spoilers
I hated "The Road" (rated it 1/10), but I didn't hate "The Book of Eli", primarily because I am a Denzel fan.

However, the first five minutes of this movie almost made me give up, such a slow pointless intro...

Then an amazing fight scene, then slow again...very uneven pacing to the point I was aware over and over again I was watching a movie, not a good thing.

There were some truly AWFUL scenes, the old couple living in the middle of nowhere were just ridiculous camp that was completely out of place in the movie.

Gary Oldman was over the top with his evil western town Boss Man role, was hard to watch him covet "The Book".

Denzel was very good, but the supporting cast just didn't work for me, I kept expecting Tina Turner to warble out and where was the Thunderdome?

And then, the ending scene...poor helpless Mila is suddenly Mad Maxine, The Road Warrior...TRULY AWFUL DRECK and should have been cut from the movie...

For a great lesser known Denzel movie, watch "Fallen", one of my favorite movies, seen it many times...in fact, think I will watch it now to get "The Book of Eli" out of my brain.

Pointless, bleak, boring, waste of time, you get the idea...
22 January 2010
If I had seen this in the theater instead of on my laptop, I would have walked out after 45 minutes. Instead, I skipped ahead for the last 45 minutes hoping something interesting or understandable would happen...

Sadly, nothing happened.

The previews for this movie sum up all the action in the entire movie in 60 seconds. That's about it, 60 seconds of action and another 89 minutes of slow, dreary, boring and pointless walking, whining and more whining.

Highly NOT recommended, not even worth saving for a future watch, and I save almost everything. This has been deleted and forgotten, as it should have been when the screenplay was first submitted.

I will not tolerate COWARDICE, and this movie reeks of COWARDICE.
23 December 2008
The movie has a good premise, and the first half of the movie makes sense and is awful but good. Then it completely jumps the shark with the second half (where the women concede to demands) and I simply cannot believe that a large group of people would rather be COWARDS than overwhelm the other side with numbers, especially when they have the "sight" advantage.

I personally would have pounded anyone that went along with the second half of the movie, just not believable or tolerable in the slightest, COWARDICE cannot, and will not be tolerated in real life or in a movie.

I stopped watching after the concession, and destroyed my copy of the movie. I recommend that no one waste their time with this failure of the human spirit, and failure of a movie. I certainly cannot believe under any circumstances the second half of the movie, it is pure COWARDICE and only damages anyone that watches it, AWFUL! They would have had to beaten me to death before the concession could occur, and I do not believe that such a large group of people would allow such COWARDICE to happen.

FAIL! 1/10 - you will be damaged if you watch this movie, I wish I had never watched it.

Boring, unbelievable characters, walked out at 45 minutes...
2 November 2008
Worse than TV.

This stinker of a movie joins in less than 10 movies that I have walked out on. Alien 3, Die Hard 3, Fresh Horses, etc.

Loved earlier Coen work, Fargo, Raising Arizona, etc. Did not see what the fuss was about No Country for Old Men, it was kinda boring in between the over the top violence.

At the 45 minute mark I realized I was thinking about what I have to do at work on Monday (a very bad sign), looked over at my wife and she made it clear she was ready to go.

Why are the characters in so many movies such caricatures and totally unbelievable? TV has become way better, for example, I dare anyone to watch the first 15 minutes of Showtime's Dexter and not be instantly hooked. I watched the entire first season in one week.

I have to disagree with many here, Clooney was not funny, Pitt was not funny, and Police Chief Fargo was out of place.

My score 2/10 for Malkovich, he opened the movie pretty well but it just was just so boring after that...

This movie is rated WAAAY too high, it's a stinker. Walked out of theater.
4 September 2008
My wife and I about 45 minutes in looked at each other with glazed over eyes and both realized we had lost any interest in wasting any more time watching this movie, got up and walked out.

Tired, stale and 10 year old humor just didn't work. The cinematography and costumes and sets were amazing, but then they had this lame dialog, lame jokes, and gross-out violence. (C'mon, a guy holding up his blown off arms is never going to be funny, especially when we have a crappy president sending young men to their deaths or injury for real).

Robert Downey Jr. at first was going to be awesome I thought, but then he never said a funny line. Never thought Jack Black should be in a movie, and nothing he does hear changes my mind.

And then we have Ben Stiller, who since he had children has turned into one himself. Perhaps talking to 3 years olds has damaged his brain, and so he can only write humor that 3-10 year olds would find funny.

Movies I have liked recently include Iron Man, The Dark Knight, Juno, Hellboy 2, and even Jumper and Wanted were at least entertaining.

I put this movie at the bottom of the barrel, as I have only walked out on a few movies in my life...it's a stinker. I simply cannot understand the rave reviews or the ratings on IMDb or RottenTomatoes.

Gave up after 45 minutes...what was he thinking?
18 June 2008
I love fantasy, sci-fi, action, horror etc.

Waited quite a while to get around to watching this film as I had heard such bad reviews.

I paused the movie over 5 times in the first 45 minutes as I could not keep watching due to how awful it was, then would return hoping it would get better.

Why the stutter??? It is so annoying.

Why the mom who knows this silly bedtime story but can't speak English so we have to endure the daughter translating it??? So annoying.

The movie jumps into the main character (Paul G.) believing this silly fable WAY too quickly, and then wastes A lot of time on trying to convince the audience we should also believe it...

Total crap, and I have given up at 45 minutes because a movie is not supposed to keep kicking you out of the movie back to reality as you say to yourself "What??? That is stupid!".

I am so annoyed am going to watch Equilibrium again, Christian Bale rocks in a movie that is cross between 1984 and The Matrix.

Sadly, M. Night's latest movie ain't nothing "The Happening" is also a dud...sounds like he needs some honest friends that can tell him when he is cooking up crap.

Overrated - Way too many characters, little depth, no flashbacks!
5 November 2007
As my wife and I tried to stay awake towards the end of the movie, I just kept seeing more characters brought on screen and then never utilized. While the movie is slick and professional, it is only watchable in 20 minute segments. As a whole, it is a fractured mess of bits and pieces that never gel together.

What the movie really needed was flashbacks. Perhaps if the movie was told on the last day of his getting out of jail, with flashbacks of his youth, his early days with Bumpy where he learned his craft, then we could appreciate it later. But, the movie missed the mark for me, with no explanation of motivation for any characters except greed. Hard to believe there were so many nice people that were willing to deal death on the streets...

I just did not see this as a great movie and would never watch it a second time. 7/10.

Superbad (2007)

Did I see the same movie as all you fan boys???
21 September 2007
I only give Superbad a 2 because I do like the young actors, but the material and script they were given was just too unbelievable, unfunny, and unnecessarily gross to be entertaining. I very rarely give up on a movie, and almost always watch until the end, no matter how bitter, but I gave up on this one due to sheer boredom. During the cop/mclovin/cocaine party, my wife and I looked at each other and it was obvious we both had lost interest in what had started as a coming of age teen movie but had become a how gross and stupid can we be movie.

Show more of the cute girls, and awkward boy girl moments, not the hard to believe and out of character middle of the movie, which just did not ring true and was not entertaining. I highly DO NOT recommend this movie. Knocked Up was a mixed bag, with the boy girl interaction decent, but the porn site nerd friends unnecessary and unfunny. Superbad was all porn site nerd friends, and super unfunny.

First 110 minutes below-average, then 30 minutes of sheer magic!
30 May 2005
Even though I am a huge Star Wars and Sci-Fi fan, I cannot ignore the first 110 minutes of the movie. Almost the exact feel of Attack of the Clones, with wooden acting, horrible laughable dialog, and twice the CGI needed to tell the story (how I longed for the dogfights of the original movies). All the heart, bravery, and emotion of the first movies is still missing, instead while watching I am constantly aware that actors are standing in front of blue screens, and cannot see what the final product will look like. Again, I yearn for real sets and locations, and I would rather see an elephant in a costume (Banthas) than a CGI lizard any day.

Then like a different movie, the last 30 minutes becomes Star Wars magic, George Lucas does deserve credit for wrapping up the loose ends and pointing us all back to the first movie, now called A New Hope. So it is still a must watch for Star Wars fans, but sadly, is just not that good a movie.
