Better Call Saul: Saul Gone (2022)
Season 6, Episode 13
I have somehow been identifying with Jimmy and Kim when I was their age...
17 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
And this recognition resulted in a few tears when J. Lured K. To the ABQ courtroom (under typ. "Jimmy" false pretenses) so that she would know how much he loved her.

Beautiful ending to the whole, prolonged, tortuous "Breaking Bad" story. Thanks so much!!

Very Good Episode Of 'Last O.G.'
25 November 2021
Very diverse scenarios of an "upper class white" family's hypothetical trepidation vs. An "under-class black family's" everyday concerns for their very safety & survival....

I enjoy every moment of Tracy M on screen, even though this series is ordinarily pretty boring stuff. This S4 E6 has, on the other hand, proved itself to be pretty "perspicacious". Good work, everybody!!

Jack Dee is brilliant....

....but his character, Spleen, is so vile - along with 9/10ths of the rest of the cast - that this multi- multi-episode series is quickly become painful to watch!

Shakespeare Vis a Vis "I Spit On Your Grave 2"
22 June 2021
I SINCERELY think Wm Shakespeare, IF he were alive today, would NOT deny this plodding, well-timed story as being one of his first-ever sophomoric attempts to break into the movie biz by exploiting some tawdry Elizabethan era sexual stereotypes, all or most of which unfortunately persevere to this day!

A Latecomer To US 'Shameless' Says....
29 March 2021
Started by binge-watching it on netflix (whenever it first appeared there) and have NOT missed an episode since then

It will obviously be HARD for even the most skillful writers to bring an end to such a popular and lengthy series, but S11. E10 started the process pretty well. It VIVIDLY rekindles many memories: moving away from home; graduating; BAD mistakes; GOOD mistakes; moving on; family deaths; FRIEND deaths, etc etc, all such changes being NOTHING more or less than just....inevitable.

Painful, Pointless Conflicts

The "failed father" figure, for unknown reasons (with possible dementia issues put aside) must, delusionally, be imagining that someone - anyone - ever actually gave a f--k what he thinks!! Open your eyes, Pop, and deal with it all!!

B+ Drama witha an A+ Denouement
7 February 2021
I read many reviews here before actually watching the movie, and do not understand what all the fuss is about. I wish I could have read "deb"s review but it must have been deleted long ago.

If I had a teenage daughter or son I would not hesitate to somehow aquaint them with this subject matter, and this film seems like it would be a good start

Grand Gui·gnol In Extremis
30 November 2020
Was anticipating much better non-gore-fest drama from this period "family drama", but it turned out to be extremely low-rent "worst case scenario you-could-possibly imagine in your worst-ever dreams" crapola. Boo Kostner, as usual, with Diane Lane's forceful character being the only bright spot

....But have zero recollection of these season 5 & 6 events. So am glad to find another year or two of formerly favorite & possibly now binge-worthy vintage TV episodes available from out of nowhere!! Woohoo!!!

Accurate Or Not, A True Depiction Of Human Society Everywhere
19 June 2020
When I saw this years ago on DVD, followed by Gibson's glib, blithely racist commentary, I was duly impressed by the lack of any subtitles, let alone any grunted english (or french, spanish or whatever)

Bottom line, this is a pretty effective "silent film" depiction of how everyday societies and everyday people have been handling themselves ever since our earliest adam/eve/cain experiences, right up until the present day. Including us here in the USA

Workman-Like Writing And Acting, Based On A Plot Seemingly Combining Three- Or Four- Of Shakespeare's Best Efforts
19 April 2020
Simply repeating the above headline (mainly in case lengthy headlines somehow do not appear there in full) "Workman-Like Writing And Acting, Based On A Plot Seemingly Combining Three- Or Four- Of Shakespeare's Best Efforts".

In essence, this "nine-out-of-10-star" movie depicts a wide range of human weaknesses and strengths, softened and made most enjoyable (plus more easily digestible) by some really broad, Shakespearean-like bawdy humor. And the results prove to be, altogether, relatively great!!

Literally "Flawless" 30 Min Love Story
19 October 2019
A simple and flawless "love" story delivered in the customary three part formula at an unhurried pace and featuring a pretty accurately depicted cast of "upscale New Yorkers", all of whom - immigrants, natives & transplants - are wonderfully human and judgment-free in all their actions, just as we would like it to be if this were our story, right?

Almost equally as perverse as "Rosemary's Baby" in many respects, including unsettling "set up", slow, creepy "discovery" & eventual, shocking "denouement"!! Bravo, film makers (whoever you are)!!

Clearing The Fog Of Time, At Last, about a potentially 'State-Sponsored UK Murder'
11 August 2018
'Jeremy Thorpe' is a familiar name, from the 70s I guess, but I had no idea why ________________ this casually planned 'murder plot in the name of...I'm not sure what", obediently followed by a ring of compliant dupes makes me ever more scared of the current US-WH situation, say no more!!

The Ole' "Switcheroo"
2 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
While pretty Christian and comforting at the beginning, the story soon starts to go haywire and eventually devolves into a pretty stark denunciation/condemnation of ALL religions as they function in modern day life, particularly in the last few minutes

A Whitewash - critics are exactly right!!
1 July 2018
I stuck with this until the husband-wife deathbed scene, very near the end, which clearly promised to 'take the rag off the bush' in terms of this laughably softball reinterpretation of a major, murderous psychopath's life story!!! _____________ Eerily reminiscent of present day, equally puzzling Trump-hype, in fact

To the daughter, and their night out at Red Lobster or wherever was a relaxed and abnormally comforting sight, vis-a-vis the usual hyperbolic crap typical of today's TV sitcoms....

Braven (2018)
far-above-average revenge/retribution thriller
11 February 2018
This finely crafted drama puts many 21st c. big budget thrillers to shame, including all the over-the-top Mission Impossible, etc etc ad nauseam (can't immediately recall any others by name)

The family-driven story was particularly compelling & well acted by all parties

Bravo to all writers, director & actors....and financiers!

American version of 50s-60s UK "Kitchen Sink" drama, only much more meaningful
23 July 2017
can only add my support to one previous reviewer's succinct, very favorable comments, dated about 7/20/2017

would only add that, despite this small family's current late 20th c, early 21st c abominable economic situation (mostly the result of forces well beyond their control, needless to say), their personal relationships are identical to families up and down the economic scale, ergo a very universal, appealing story, well-acted, paced, filmed, etc etc

Doc About Extra-loud Scots Elevator Music
30 May 2017
for starters, could not really understand much of the hip, invariably wry insider banter of the featured "used-to-be" players & others. Ultimately, though, could NOT help thinking how truly lame this mostly instrumental-cum light show music is when compared to Who-Cream-Dead- Doors--you name it--in the 60s, or even Nirvana-STP-Pearljam-etc etc in the 90s!!!

ergo much ado about the nothing, pretty much shite locals

perhaps the best movie ever made! Like a wonderful dream just before you wake up, when you feel in total control but start to question "why is this obnoxious turd, Gene wilder", in my dream??

have never seen or even heard of this movie before and am only now about 40 min into it, but this is far superior to any other Pryor/Wilder films I've ever seen. I now get these guys chemistry''''''''''

Four- or Five-hundred Lines of Really Good Free Verse Poetry
3 May 2017
The same author's Winter's Bone had a big impact. I saw it on DVD or Netflix and was duly impressed, but not nearly so much as with this lackadaisically paced, (beautifully filmed, I guess), truly poetic telling of some not-improbable (in fact, very lifelike-seeming) marginal SW US characters doing what they have to in the face of a sociopolitical environment that is obviously, to an almost comical extent, thoroughly stacked against them!

Bravo, everyone - actors, writer/director, casting, DP, editor(s) - and keep up the good work!

Improving every week, it seems
12 April 2017
while many TV shows- dramas, comedies, whatever - seem to start strong then peter out, content-wise, this one, week by week, gets ever-better!

for that reason alone this show is remarkable but the cast, also, could not be any better, proving that a Mundane Premise combined w/ superlative Casting + brilliant Writing works just fine!

Dan Cruickshank = idiotic TV presenter
30 August 2016
this subject, the history of bridges in the river city of London, obviously merits attention, but only by scholars interested in properly interpreting the historical record, not by this talking head/Drama Queen Cruickshank whose usually contorted & wildly gesticulating delivery, plus his always hyperbolic, theatrical & CERTAINLY inaccurate script amounts to a thoroughly IRRITATING waste of time to anyone wishing to actually learn something _______________ this Cruickshank character is a TV presenter with ["an interest in architectural history]" but with zero bonafides that I can find

he may look the part, by BBC standards, but that's all that's on offer here
