Chef (2014)
Terrible movie - don't trust the high rating
This has got to be one of the worst movies I've seen in a long time. Luckily for me I streamed it so could quickly skip large sections of the latter parts. It starts off ok but just goes rapidly downhill from there. The acting is pretty poor, the characters are shallow and seem to have little regard for each other in any meaningful way. Probably the worst thing about it is that it's just totally uninteresting.
Anna (2019)
Great action flick
Thoroughly enjoyed it. Great action and brilliant acting. Plus it also got a bit of a caning by the critics, which is always a good sign in my experience
Mountain Fever (2017)
Slow and dull
I've had more suspense opening a can of beans to reveal the contents.... and more fun too.
It was a 5* rating on Sky, that somehow made it worse. I guess I watched the whole thing to try and find out how it had that rating.
What I discovered was that Sky seem to have given this the wrong title and confused it and it's rating with the 2018 movie by the name of "Fever" and not its actual title that is "Fever Mountain".
Definitely one to miss
Starship: Rising (2014)
Worst porno ever
It was a porno right? I mean it must have been... what with the obvious innuendo twist on Jupiter Ascending (not heard it referred to as a "starship" before but whatever), much like the Flesh gordon take on Flash Gordon, the crappy acting, non existent plot. meaningless dialogue and the dodgy looking women displaying more make up than a Debenhams cosmetic counter and obvious low budget.
The narration started off quite well; thought it was going to have a Red Dwarf theme initially. Then it went a bit Doctor Whoish, which didn't bode well and by the time the introductory narration finished I had not only lost the plot but also the will to live.
Anyway, things perked up a bit when this fairly fit looking blonde rucked up. Here we go, I thought; crappy intro- check, crappy acting - check. About time for the blond to turn around to one of the guys and come up with some cheesy line like "Is that a "starship" in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me" before getting her kit off and some raunchy action. Boy was I disappointed. Where were all the sex scenes for fecks sake? Did they just forget to put them in or what? Veerrry disappointing.
Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014)
Pretentious load of rubbish
I have long since abandoned any hope that reviews from professional critics will have any relevance to my enjoyment of a film and this is a case in point.
Forget all the pretentious positive comments, this film is just dull.
OK, so maybe it was technically clever (I don't know, much less care) and maybe the acting was good; but did it accomplish it's whole raison d'être, that is: was it entertaining? Certainly not for me It has very little plot, no humor that I could discern and really very little in the way of entertainment value.
Pass it by, nothing of interest lies within
Extant (2014)
Terrible
Started off well but unfortunately like other U.S. TV shows (Flash Forward and Under the Dome spring to mind) all too soon goes completely off the rails in terms of believability.
OK it's a Sci-Fi themed show but the actions of the characters within it and their motives have to be believable. By around episode 7 this went out of the window, alongside any interest I held in the show. Don't know if it's an American thing as they seem to want new TV shows to run for something like 7 or 8 Seasons; in my opinion that's too long for a show with a defined story line like this one and the aforementioned shows. Shows such as House/ The Sopranos work well as they are based mainly around the actions of the characters. Maybe Extant would have worked better as a short series, hence not requiring any padding/storyline hoey.
