At Your Own Risk (2018)
Meh
They tried to do something different but ended up doing something so different I got lost. The beginning got me hooked, the middle act got me really into it and then it dropped off. Would have been interesting to see what would have happened if they kept going and that would have made the real difference. Would not recommend or watch again.
Star Wars: Squadrons (2020)
Rogue Squadron reborn?
Picked this game up cause it reminded me of the ever popular game series rogue squadron and so far it's been a good intriguing game. Too bad EA decided to make it more about the online experience, outside of that, customizing your pilot is fun and along with that it almost just feels like an expansion pack for battlefront 2 (2015). Not bad at all for 39.99! Would recommend the game to anyone who enjoyed rogue squadron and Star Wars in general!
Vindication (2019)
Great start
Kept seeing this show and passing it by for something else. The show is a little on the short end but somehow they developed all the characters over the course of the first season even for a show that tops out at around 30 min an episode. Very detailed, not a CSI, classic crime drama type show but goes into its own category telling a crime from start to finish where you as the viewer get details to solve the case. I'd recommend for somebody looking for something a little different in terms of a story being told of how a mystery gets solved.
Thomas and the Magic Railroad (2000)
For the kids!
One of the movies I remember going to as a kid with my parents and now here I am watching it with my 2 kids. It's not perfect but as a kid... you don't care and as an adult I'm just happy to share a great classic show with my kids! Better then most content you find these days... dated yes but it's classic!
The Chosen (2017)
Gods' hand at work!
Came across this show because of a family member and I can say God used Dallas Jenkins to share a completely different take on the gospels that is just amazing! The person who plays Jesus is moving and very different from predecessors who played our Lord and savior in a movie. They were good but they were too serious, this Jesus that is presented is a happy, sometimes funny and at times serious Jesus that I believe to be what he was actually like! One day we will all know! For now... I would encourage more people to see this and watch something very special! I intend to share it and continue to watch the next installments! God Bless this project!
I'm Not Ashamed (2016)
The other side of the story.
We all know how it ends sadly, I never knew about who Racheal was and her effect on her classmates. All I remember is the tv coverage of the shooters, yes they have a story but the other side of the story brings beauty to it all. The movie moved me and reminded me that I'm thus crazy world... all the values God gave us which she exhibited throughout this movie are need more then ever! Forgiveness, compassion and Love! Loving your neighbors and maybe loving people because you really don't know their lives! As a person who almost committed suicide, this reminds me of some classmates who this day I remember being kind to me! We could all strive to be a "Racheal" type person in the lives all around us! This movie shows that! God uses her still to this day! Learn from the past to help the future! I highly recommend this movie... but know that you might cry!
The Way Back (2020)
Life and choices of an alcoholic
The movie was very real feeling and emotional throughout. Too bad it struggled to figure out if it was a sports movie or a movie about a guy angry at the world/God for taking away his son. Could have been 10x better if you took out almost all the swearing, it was unnecessary and inconsistent considering they were at a catholic school. Well I guess who was going to swear anyway. The movie did a good job showing how far he fell and could have done a better job to show more of the sports side of things. Outside of all that... Gavin O' Connor has a great product except for the swearing, change a few things and this is a good movie. Kinda like warrior with too much swearing. Change the content and you have a great base for a Christian movie! Highly recommend if you can get past his excessive drinking, understand he's trying really hard and failing miserably! Also the swearing is a bit much and almost doesn't fit but it is what it is! Recommend to anybody looking for a good movie!
Sonic the Hedgehog (2020)
SEGA did good!
So wasn't sure what to expect but the movie stayed true to sonic while doing some new twists in the story! Family friendly and has enough laughs to keep it entertaining! Jim Carrey... enough said, the man is crazy and it worked perfectly for this role! Kind of like the mask 2.0 but hey he was a good fit for the role! Can't wait to see where they take this next! I recommend to anybody looking for a decent clean and funny movie mixed with some action!
Jumanji: The Next Level (2019)
unneeded but a fun ride
Watched it, enjoyed it and thought it was good but not needed. The new additions to the cast made sense for the end of the movie but were useless for 90% of the movie. Welcome to the jungle was better then this one, Jake kasdan did good and this like welcome to the jungle performed well! I would recommend it to anyone looking for a decent adventure movie with good humor.
Ford v Ferrari (2019)
Great watch!
I watched the documentary and read up about the Le Mans race in 65-66 that happened when Ford beat Enzo and Ferrari in the 24 hour race. So with that in mind I knew the story well enough to notice they left some things out and added some drama to move the story along. I enjoyed seeing Christian bale and Matt Damon on the screen together. Wasn't sure it was going to work but hey they got it too. Overall I'd recommend reading and watching some more stuff on the actual event. This movie doesn't do the story justice... but definitely a fun movie, slow at parts but amazing to see the story of how Ford rose to greatness (well kinda) in a time when cars needed to change. Worth a watch for car finatics or history buffs!
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (2003)
Star Wars at its best!
This is an original approach to a franchise with so a lot of material... which now Disney has thrown out sadly...played this video games multiple times and can say a movie adaption would be amazing! But probably won't happen so the books and this game will suffice! I highly recommend to any Star Wars fan looking for something original and fun! Great heroes and a great villain worth fighting!
The Lion King (2019)
Makes me want to watch the original
Good movie, captures the story with "real lions" but at every turn I think back to the original... which maybe that was the idea... but over all good but missing the emotions of the original. Didn't see it in theaters (didn't want to waste money). The voice actors are good but still the original cast set the bar. That and scars new voice is not nearly as intimidating as Jeremy irons voice of scar. My advice, watch both and figure out which one you like better. Still giving it a 7 due to visuals and keeping it almost true to the original story!
Christmas in the Wild (2019)
Hallmark quality!
I'm a sucker for hallmark movies and this one did everything right while not doing anything to ruin itself! Creative, smart, funny and a good watch! Good job Netflix!
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Good but could be better
Well... enjoyed the final hour of the movie more then the rest of it. Iron man dying sad yes, captain America deciding to stay in the past was probably an ending that was needed for him! There were plenty of plot holes... I mean just out of the blue iron man figures out time travel... ok that was too easy! At least make it a little more challenging! Leave that aside there was also how thanos all of a sudden doesn't need the stones to defeat the avengers... yeah should have made that a thing the first time he appears but oh well... just a money grab. Didn't need to be 3 hours maybe 2 and halfish hours. Either was enjoyable but too long and dragged out story. I do however see how it got to 2 billion though. Loyal fans!
Aladdin (2019)
Original still better
Watched both with in a few days of each other. I can safely say the original still will always be what people think of first EVER before Disney's attempts at reinventing the wheel and with that said good attempt. Kids of today might find the original a little creepier compared to the new one but hey... enjoyed them for what they are. Singing was ok, acting was great, villian was flat compared to the original and the social justice add in was not needed; jasmin is already a great strong women character and was good as is before they added what they did. Overall... recommend... after I recommend the original Aladdin!
Psycho (1960)
Classic horror movie
I feel as though horror movies today are more slasher films then actual horror movies like the works of Alfred Hitchcock's psycho. Watched it, enjoyed it and I feel spoiled by today's horror genre... this feels kinda flat. But looking at it for what it is... suspenseful and creepy! It's a masterpiece of that era, not in the modern era sadly! Alfred Hitchcock in my opinion, is like Steven Spielberg of horror films because he started a trend and change in the genre! I would recommend it as a neat looking back at how movies use to be done!
Pokémon: Detective Pikachu (2019)
Good could be better!
Visually stunning for sure, good story to get away from copying the original idea of ash Ketchum (which would've been a mess to say the least) and fun moments throughout. The down side... Ryan Reynolds is fun but can get annoying for long periods of time in my personal preference but overall decent adaptation! Not going to blow you away with everything but the story was decent enough. Cast was great, good twists for the plot but villain was kind of foreseeable and easy taken down but hey it was decent all around!
PAW Patrol (2013)
The kids love it!
Yeah watching this with your kid makes 'em happy for sure, not my thing but hey... keeps her entertained for the duration of the show.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
2000s Spider-Man continued...
Better then the Disney created homecoming, more original, more fun and less political crap (none actually). I see this as a continuation of the Toby Maguire Spider-Man movies, which were amazing, had there mistakes of course... but enjoyable nonetheless! So bigger fan of the old Spider-Man so this was fun to watch especially with the whole family! Recommended!:)
Worth Fighting For (2017)
If only another studio picked this one up!
Acting was decent, camera, lighting and the extras were alright... low budget was written all over it! Good story ideas, uplifting and had a few twists towards the end that was unforeseen but liked it better then the predictable ending per the norm. Good chemistry between the love interests and not too preachy on the God message but enough so you know God is present in this movie! Then the elephant in the room... the extras at the fights... oh dear... then grandma was there too... in the front row no less... yeah could have had better extras but loved the story and ideas all the same! Recommend if you can get past that it is pretty low budget!
Shazam! (2019)
Zachary Levi made the movie!
Watched chuck when it was on tv (recommended) and always has a way to bring a good personality to a character in any situation! This movie was no different, he was meant to do the role and all the cast did just as awesome! Believable characters, good development and all around good cgi! Hopefully will see again! Highly Recommend!!!
Aquaman (2018)
Overhyped but delivered
Always been more of a DC fan then marvel but have to say this movie delivered a Marvel like feel to it! Cheesey superhero lines like always... lots of explosions... Good villian... check and check! Overhyped a bit, but delivered an awesome movie! A little long... but hey... another side effect of superhero movies!
Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018)
Emoji movie done right... and a Disney infomercial
7 because it was a decent follow up to an original idea... too bad it stole some ideas from another movie... and too bad Disney has to constantly remind us we are watching a Disney movie... just let your name speak for itself. Decent but not amazing and another reason Disney should leave some movies as one movie!
God Friended Me (2018)
New age and new God?
Well loved the first episodes, but probably won't watch again due to the addition of things God isn't! But what do you do, gave it 4 stars because the chemistry between Miles and Cara was fun to watch. God doesn't change, I love the social media idea, like the early edition tv show of the 90s with a twist of touched by an angel! Good ideas just done by people who don't have the same values as God has in his word! Love the idea just not for me! Hope the show can spark other clean and fun entertaining shows for the times to come!
