Indoo Ki Jawani (2020)
This Movie enters my "must-not see" list
The movie stands to be an irritating journey of 2 hours where the movie is baselessly portraying Kiara Advani as an Indian not-too-forward girl which gets drooled on by the neighbours ranging from 18 to 50. But Kiara's character who is named... "Indoo" has a support given by better acted Mallika Dua who encourages her to have sex. Well, she isn't the best convincing people but Indoo is definitely one of the stupid ones, who believe everything their friends know. Logic started to fade when the make shift names, famous Hindi movie villains and torturing plot came up.
The movie also has Aditya Seal, the villain cast in Student of the Year 2. And as rightly guessed, he was another pretty face, portraying a Pakistani musician. Unlike his previous performance, he ended up becoming a chocolate boy who has better action skills than so portrayed Terrorists.
New faces like Shivam Kakkar offers another role on a Delhiite boy, this time not a loving boyfriend but a bee around the flower. The portrayal seems same on some grounds but had different touch on another.
The best song from this movie isn't the original one. Also tinder managed to get itself a song. Not a good playlist to have I suggest.
The movie without a single learning gave audience a better learning - "Best actress critic might just be a pretty face."
The Angry Birds Movie 2 (2019)
HINDI DUB - Fantabulous
A family drama and kids entertainer. Without the prior knowledge of its predecessor, the story holds strong as well as aligned.
Background music/score is EPIC. It's like watching a sitcom with some of the best SONGS in the history being played.
Screenplay was applaudable with tons of improvisation and Bollywood references by the Dub Artist KAPIL SHARMA, KIKU SHARDA and ARCHANA PURAN SINGH.
Animation by DreamWorks has always been classic but always faced compition from Pixar, Disney (Animation), Universal (Animation) etc.
DreamWorks was repeatitive with its concept from the Ice-Age and Despecible Me which was the only let down. Also the story was predictable yet stayed funny throughout.
Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019)
Spidey de-tours from his famous "Great Responsibility" is what Far from Home all about.
Spider-man is the largest superhero around the globe. With the series booting thrice in 15 years, and latest affiliation between Sony and Disney over Spider-man has shown the story from a different angle never experienced before.
Marvel's Spider-man theme music sounds very much derived from Avengers Theme, does not have the impact like that of Avengers. "I Will Always Love You" plays during the MARVEL titular opening gains the attention. Rest of the soundtrack seemed quite the Average.
The movie covers majority of Europe like Prague, London, Berlin, Venice which is well covered by DoP. Marvel pulls best CGI throughout its 23 Movies run after Doctor Strange.
Screenplay was okay.. No Hidden Meaning and simply written in plain text.
Zendaya as MJ drifted from conventional love interest roles. Portrayed as Smart, Strong and Non-vulnerable.
Tom Holland as Friendly Neighborhood Spider-man seemed a little too buffed up for a 16 yr old kid, portrays the role aptly but no exception.
Jake Gyllenhaal as supporting role/main antagonist was very poorly portrayed. MCU should stop starring such great superstars as Spider-man's villain.
Story as a continuation to Endgame rushes the introduction and leaves with so many open questions. Character's Development from "Spider-man Homecoming" is very baseless. Ir-relative. Besides the predictability in the story, it seemed fresh and well crafted.
Direction was a let down as well. Wall Crawling and Swinging Spider-man was not to be seen until the very end. Disappointed. So many characters were compromised - Flash, Maria Hill, Ned, May etc. which could've made the strong impact throughout the story - Failed.
The story re-characterizes the Billion Dollar Superhero Franchise deviating the only moral he ever stood up.
"With Great Powers, comes Great Responsibility"
Good News for FANS : J. K. Simmons could again be seen in MCU version of Spiderman after Raimi Trilogy.
The Tashkent Files (2019)
India deserves more Political Thrillers
American political mysteries like - Was the moon mission actually conducted ? Or Was the 911 attacks a plot by the government itself ? Or Is American Government secretly studying something in Area 51 ? are always debatable but this movie was a wake-up call for Indians who thought India always had a cleaner slate.
This movie did have some intensifying background score but songs/album was not required, which dragged down the pace of the movie.
Considering a low budget movie, it spread its scenes to most and best of Delhi which was on pars. At some parts, the movie didn't seem to be well shot/edited.
The movie has some amazing dialogues. Perfect on par pitches and delivery by such amazing veterans. Again the budget/censorship plays the anchor as a lot of dialogues were faded and unclear.
Actors Mithun, Naseeruddin, Sweta as lead carried the movie beautifully. Pankaj, Vinay and Rajesh in their characters kept the sane and real. Splendid Mandira Bedi on her performance where she was most complex and motive-oriented character.
Direction and Story by Vivek Agnihotri was the only reason this movie is recommended. The movie may seem to be biased due to elections and propoganda, but hope that everyone sees it with open mind.
Kesari (2019)
Kesari was just Border REMAKE ?
Filmed in JP Dutta style of action-war-drama, Kesari does not seem to impress post the benchmark set by URI.
Songs was a let down. 'Teri Maati' is the best track in the Kesari Playlist.
VFX, Stunts and CGI scenes are very revealing.
Costumes are good which gained some attention.
Screenplay and Dialogues are average as well. Some of the scenes are applaudable but not all.
Script is the worst part as it has some unnecessary plots making just to prolong the movie.
Acting by majority of the cast keeps the movie a choice in the first place, but not the best performance of any on-screen. Parineeti presence as an unnecessary resource pulling down the actual plot throughout the movie.
Direction is the best part as some scenes are so well made that cheers throughout the auditorium echoed.
Badla (2019)
Badla brought a Badlav
If you are a avid fan of close room murders, you probably will predict the story by the intermission (like I did) but if not, you have to pay a keen notice in the storyline.
The story was well shot, with perfect location stills and scenary. It looked authentically London and objectically the beautiful one.
The movie did not loose its pace even though there were no songs to calm the audience adrenaline. The best part was crafting the dialogues and its timings. Sometimes the a lot of heavy dialogues lost the intention, forgivable for using a double edged sword.
Taapsee Pannu, Amrita Rao gave an awe performance. The director wanted them to mix a lot of emotions, to stick to their climax. Senior Bachchan, lost his temperament, in a scene or two but was stellar as always. I blame the director to throw him under the bus. But the Director, Sujoy Ghosh, brought M.N.Shyamalan's touch by the end of the movie. He captured the celluloid with massive dialogues and new plotline (though adoptive) in Bollywood.
Gully Boy (2019)
Film toh bahot HARD hai
The film which revolves around story of a GULLY BOY who aspires to become a RAP STAR, which was quite an entry for the BOLLYWOOD into the newest genre of hip-hop hitting the Background Score and the Album Hits. Music has undergone changes from Party Songs, EDM, Remixes and Remakes uptil 2019, but Gully Boy has set up the stage for Music Industry in Bollywood.
Director of Photography creates magic with precise arial shots over the Mumbai Slums. A lot of stunts in "Meri Gully Mein", designed by Bosco-Ceaser were marvelous and jaw dropping. Some of them were so fluent didnt seem real, if it wasent then commends the handling by VFX Team.
The movie mostly stands out in its dialogues with all the Tapori Dialogues failing to catch sometimes but keeps you entertained throughout.
But with dialogues limited, the film was most about expressions by Ranveer and Alia. The stellar performance by award winners of 2018, winning hearts again this year. The support cast by Kalki, Siddhant, Vijay Raaz, Vijay Verma on pars with the lead of the film.
The story seems a lot more predictable, plots unneeded, actions unjustified, and 150 mins long movie.
The direction of the movie was great as the movie justified Murad's story with other characters in his circle. The story showed the true feminism with Alia Bhatt's continuation of her studies. The story sewed to show how relationship of Murad stands out with all the people in his cirle of friends, mentor, affair, girlfriend, family with abusive father, etc. The cliffhanger by Zoya Akhtar was the best part in the film yet she discloses the suspense very next second.
Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi (2019)
Only if the money spent was well used : Manikarnika
The CGI/VFX detoriates as the movie moves forward and final battle scene was totally on Green Background.
The movie carries the story in most of the accuracy what we have so far learned. Some might not be convinced by the ending shown by the crew. Acting skills by Kangna and Jishan Aayub were amazing. They showed potential by taking up challenging roles opposite/different than what they were potraying in the past. But not too much input provided by other actors. Songs were totally unneeded. Actions, Dialogues, Screenplay and Narration saved the sinking ship.
Bird Box (2018)
Bird Box, A Post Apocalyptic Tragedy
The movie is of a lonely woman who grows into a loving mother. The adventurous, dangerous and petrifying journey of Sandra Bullock who potrays the lead character was unparalleled.
Background Score for creatures in the movie were terrifying. The river scenes were indifferent and great. Some drowning scenes were not up to the mark. Even the blindfold scenes were not that good. Some dialogues between John Malkovich and Sandra Bullock were funny and amazing as well. Rest were average. Acting, Direction and Story takes a lot of applauds.
Thackeray (2019)
Not up to the MARK
Most of the movie stays in BW format before the interval. The movie fails to create any justification with the titular character. The storyline deviates from the actual plot without a moral. Lack of songs and single Background Score also brings down an entire movie. Although the dialogues and screenplay was commendable. Actor Nawazuddin gives one of the career best performace on the celluloid. Amrita Rao fails to make her cameback. Direction was also above average and some parts were applaudable.
Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019)
Bollywood's 2019 first biggest hit : URI
Starting with the Background scores and songs were good. An electronic music that bursts your adrenaline during the action scenes. No unnecessary songs were used in the movie and the album is over-average.
The VFX used were amazing. I believed each and every chopper used in the movie was real. The CGI of drone looked so real too. As the movie was of war-drama genre, I didnt expect a lot of good movie shots of Kashmir but that wasn't the case here. Drone shots did capture some good areas. This movie didnt go for impossible stunts that is highly make-believe. Stunts on pars, with a lot of Army Level skills by performing artists.
The movie has some great dialogues. Vicky Kaushal probably had 20-30 dialogues throughout the movie but all of them just hits with a Bang. Aditya Dhar did an amazing job with the Storyline and Dialogue Delivery of each and every character - Vicky Kaushal, Yami Gautam, Paresh Rawal, Mohit Raina, Rajit Kapur, Kirti Kulhari etc was well timed and used only when necessary.
The delivery of the movie was in Novel format. Stories were short as well as long when neccessary. The movie did not have unnecesaary links just to crisp up the movie. Some sections of the movie did give goosebumps. Hence the ratings given.
K.G.F: Chapter 1 (2018)
Revolution in Bollywood - KGF
Background Score of KGF is commendable. But songs did lack the essence of liking. DoP should be applauded and praised after the recreational hit. The VFX was limited but not at all bad. The movie remained dark in the second part but carried tone of the movie. The delivery of dialogues and screenplay were well punched. The writers efforts could easily be seen over the screen. The best art were analogies and poems used within. Archana Jois gave a splendid performance playing Rocky's mother, a strong feminist performace and very strong character as well as supporting role. Rocky played by Yash is potrayal of Sorrow, Anger, Heroism and Peace artform. Character is well written bit superbly potrayed. Srinidhi Shetty plays love interest of Rocky but fails to make an impactful performance. Mouni Roy in cameo appearence, adds glamour in her short screen time. Direction came as an icing to the cake where the storyline played at various timelines was so intense, that it developed a sense of enjoyment for 200 minutes of plessure.
Aquaman (2018)
Best DC Movie so Far
Amber Heard turns out to be hottest girl in DCEU with charismatic performance. Jason Momoa in Aquaman did not do justice to the character in JL. A light hearted character was destroyed. Visuals were amazing. 3D element was on pars. Dialogues did miss the element of surprise and turned out to be too predictable. William Dafoe's return to superhero genre was well potrayed. James Wan made this the best DC movie with fun and excitement on the heap throughout the movie. Although, some parts of the movie did seperate the entire movie out of the DCEU.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
Sony is back in the League with MCU and DCEU
Spiderman is the perfect mixture of drama, action, thriller and comedy.
Movie Direction as well as the Animation was up to the mark. The dub as well as the artists were super cool. The movie is so far the best animation movie ever made.
And the 3D element was icing to the cake.
I loved the comic-book strip element.
