Great series for the family
21 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Although it started tragically, the series is an inspirational one with plenty of excitement, beauty and life lessons. Just so people know it is now available on DVD. I bought it and I'm happy to say it's still fun to watch even as an adult. They take in an Indian friend whom helps save their daughter from an illness and earns their trust after first seeming like a threat. I was sad when it went off the air because it was one of the few shows that I would NEVER miss. The network should have stuck with it because many series don't get traction until the second year (Seinfeld, Family Guy, Simpsons). It's a shame that there just aren't any good family programs on now that kids can watch without getting brainwashed by Hollywood's political correctness. This series teaches family, standing up for yourself, treat others fairly, and fight for what is yours.

Old Yeller (1957)
10/10
One of the all time greats
26 May 2016
Amazing movie on every level. It's fun, adventurous, awful sad, and the dog is incredible. If you buy the latest version you get some great extras. Everybody who was in this movie said it affected them on a very personal level. How could it not? It's Old Yeller and it contains some of the best dog scenes ever. He's a big, amazing and lovable dog. His real name is Spike, and he was rescued from a dog shelter. He was chosen because of the way he responded to humans talking to him. He turned his head sideways like he was trying to understand, which charmed the movie makers. He also was a big strong mastiff/lab mix, so he was powerful yet very smart and train-able. I honestly don't understand how anybody can rate this as mediocre or poor, but there are those who lack heart and base their reviews on all sorts of technical nonsense. I feel sorry for them. This movie has tons of heart, so much that many people simple can't watch it again or they break down sobbing.

Ottoman Turks
18 November 2014
Can't believe I'm reading reviews from people who are upset about the anti-Ottoman sentiment in this movie. ISIS is the current version of the Turks and their goals (Caliphate) and ruthlessness are the same. Vlad used VERY harsh methods himself to deter much larger Ottoman forces, and to this day, he is recognized by much of Europe for deterring the Ottoman slaughter of "infidels". Watch the movie for what it is, don't watch it for a historical documentary. Go to your library for that stuff, as I have. This is a good movie but not perfect. There's SO MUCH potentially, especially when combining the real Vlad with Stoker's myth, that you need an 8 hour mini-series to do it justice. Still, good movie.
