Baby Reindeer (2024)
Amazing...deep...authentic
Richard Gadd is astoundingly talented! This movie was dark, disturbing and poetic! It's so much more than just a story about a stalker...
Be prepared for a roller coaster ride! This series explores issues associated with sexual abuse, finding one's identity, drug abuse...and the heart of a deeply empathetic man!
Thank you Richard Gadd for your bravery! Thank you for your story and thank you for you your raw and real emotions! You had me laughing and you had me crying! You took me on your rollercoaster with me...you sir are both a talented comedian and storyteller! I look forward to seeing more from you!!!!'
Loudermilk (2017)
SO underrated
First off - I don't understand why more people aren't talking about this show...it's totally flying under the radar! I absolutely loved it and am so disappointed there aren't more seasons! It holds its own as a comedy with some really funny parts, while at the same time going deep enough into the subject of addiction to really strike a cord and get some important messages out there without being overbearing about it! The characters and character development is great and overall really top notch acting all round! I loved the ending but we need more Loudermilk - 3 seasons is not enough for such a refreshing show!
Breaking Bad (2008)
Best show of all time
I've just rewatched Breakinf Bad for the second time and I still come to the same conclusion that this is in my top 5 shows of all time! The storyline, the characters, the acting...everything is cinematic perfection! The most fascinating of which of course is Walt's slow demise and how it begs the question...what are we capable of? As nice, middle-class 'normal' people - what is our threshold? Throughout the show you will relate in some way to the character whilst at the same time being completely mortified by some of his actions - brilliant! If you haven't watched Breaking Bad...firstly - where have you been? And secondly - do it...watch it now!
Wonka (2023)
Brilliant
I went in with no expectations and absolutely loved every minute of this film! From the acting, the sets, the songs and story line - it was all brilliant! I found myself smiling so many times and I think that's what the world needs - a feel good movie that makes people smile! The energy between Noodle and Wonka was amazing - perfect casting! And Hugh Grant as an Oomp loompa was genius! I loved how it has the Charlie and the Chocolate factory 'feel' to it but it was very much its own movie! Do yourself a favor and watch it and enjoy being swept away into Wonka's chocolatey fantasy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fire of Love (2022)
The narration ruined it
Great story! Beautiful imagery! Artistic use of reels and old film, interviews etc. But what is with the narration? I can't understand what mood they're trying to create with it but it's awful and doesn't fit with the story at all! Her voice is monotone, bored and emotionless! So odd and not fitting for a documentary about literal fire, fiery personalities and a fiery love...a passionate account of the story would have been more apt! Interesting story but I actually couldn't even finish watching it - that's how much the narration grated on my nerves! I googled them instead and read about their story online!
A Christmas Miracle for Daisy (2021)
Christmas cheese at its best (or worst)
It's always the acting in these Christmas movies that gets me - it's so cringe! They find the worst talent out there, throw in constant snow and Christmas decor and there you have it - a Christmas movie! In spite of this though I'm a sucker for holiday movies - one expects them to be totally cheesy and pretty rubbish -but they're Christmas and feel good! Some are better than others though - this one is on the lower end of the spectrum! Acting is sooo bad, story line 100% predictable and no chemistry between Characters at all! I watched it through to the end though so I guess it wasn't the worst!!!
The Witches (2020)
Great movie - can't understand the negativity
I loved this - such a fun and easy watch! Acting was great, CG excellent...and of course a dash of Roald Dahl craziness!
The negative reviews don't make sense...I think it's people who don't appreciate that Roald Dahl's stories are quirky...as well as the fact that this is a 'kids' (albeit older kid coz of the scare factor) movie! Adults are reviewing it from an adult perspective!
Great fun family film! Watch it!
The Good Doctor (2017)
Pretty solid but some really annoying characters
I love medical dramas so have pretty much watched them all! I enjoyed this one for the medical side of things as well as the storyline! However this series does have some of the most annoying characters of any medical drama I've seen! Dr Glassman constantly seems to be annoyed/flabbergasted/ irritated by Shaun which is just weird and doesn't fit given he's supposed to be his mentor and advocate! Dr Melendez is annoyingly arrogant and Dr Morgan just tries too hard - the character is not believable or natural! Overall many of the characters just seem to be trying too hard and are over the top! Even Shaun himself - I get that he's autistic but I find the character to be too exaggerated! Not everyone would agree with me I'm sure...so definitely worth a try and if you're ok with the characters it's a great watch!
The Adam Project (2022)
Wholesome family entertainment
Easy watching wholesome family entertainment with a couple of great actors thrown into the mix! Not something I would say to family and friends 'you have to watch this.' But if you're flicking through movies unsure what to watch on Saturday afternoon...this isn't a bad option! Pretty enjoyable!
Euphoria (2019)
Acting at its finest
Those complaining about the glorification of drugs etc. Simply do not get it!!! This show was raw and real and was the most perfect depiction of addiction I've ever seen! Also an incredible depiction of teenage angst and emotion! I literally cannot fault a single actor - they were absolutely outstanding! As for the cinematography, the music, the story line...this series is the real deal...what a phenomenal Director! If you're looking for an unfiltered, raw and real series - this is for you! You will relate, cry, feel.....all I can say is that those that don't see the artistry in Euphoria must be really boring people!
The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (2022)
Mildly entertaining
This mini-series was mildly entertaining! Although if it weren't for Kristen Bell I may have rated lower as she carried the show for sure! The last episode/plot twist however was utterly ridiculous...the ending ruined what was a mediocre show to start with!
Safe (2018)
Great all the way through but very poor ending
This would have got a much higher rating if it wasn't for the really anti-climatic and somewhat ridiculous ending! I binge watched this in 2 sittings and loved the suspense - thought it was gripping and fantastic! But the end...
DON'T read further if you haven't watched it...
What kid hides out in their neighbors house knowing their dad is going crazy looking for her? And all for a crime that she didn't even commit - makes zero sense! And all of this drama for a crime that was committed decades ago?!? So unrealistic! This had so much potential but the writer fell so badly short on the backstory - it was weak to say the least! Not to
mention the random side-story of the daughter finding her gay father - what was the purpose of that even? (just felt like that had been thrown in there to try and be inclusive)
Nine Perfect Strangers (2021)
Surprisingly entertaining
I actually found this mini series to be surprisingly entertaining and a good rainy Saturday binge! It's fairly predictable and doesn't have a mind-blowing plot but I loved the characters, the character development was great and it had a fantastic cast. Overall not the series of the year but if you're looking for easy, slightly 'trippy' entertainment then this ones for you :-)
Ojing-eo geim (2021)
Entertaining but don't understand the hype
So there's no denying that this is an entertaining show but come on people - what's all this hype about?!? The storyline itself is fairly unoriginal - although different...there are other movies based on a similar story (people playing a game against each other, resulting in death, secret societies, delving into humanities primal response to self-preservation etc.) and for the most part I found it totally predictable! Again - don't get me wrong...I enjoyed it - it was easy watching and a pleasant enough weekend binge but I genuinely do not understand the hype...there are far greater shows that deserve more credit than this. So in conclusion - watch it for yourself...but don't expect it to be mind-blowing.
P.s. The dubbing is awful - please watch it in Korean with subtitles...much, much better!
