Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor (2023)
Creepy AF
This movie is worth a watch (as long as you can handle clown ghosts). Found footage format is always interesting to me and I turned this on to have playing while doing some other tasks and I got sucked in to its suspense thru the whole thing. It seemed a lot more modern than I anticipated from just seeing it as a streaming option on AMC and reading the small description. I have no idea if this is based on a true location? But I'm curious enough after watching I'm sure I'll be searching that soon. Certainly not my favorite horror film, but not deserving of the many low reviews I saw on here IMO.
Clarice (2021)
Really Enjoyed. Ignore the ratings unless you're a a conservative snowflake
This was excellent and I would say really got better as it went on. Very exciting and well paced in my opinion. Picks up 1 year after the end of Silence if the Lambs. It's not about Hannibal, that's why it's called Clarice. And much like our heroine the show is focused on Psychology AND ... on being woke ... which is unfortunately why I suspect to see so many low ratings. From those who don't enjoy seeing strong powerful female heroes, who will scoff at the representation of racial inequality (in the FBI ... in the 90s ... but unfortunately still so relevant today). Who won't like positive representation of the trans community, which I feel this show did an excellent job with. Calling out how silence about any of these injustices or inequities can be just as damaging as the acts themselves, or sometimes worse.
The representation of PTSD and unprocessed traumas are so well done on this show. Something we need represented, that so many need help with and think it may never be possible. Another great show that lints out mental health (issues) need to be talked about and not swept under the rug.
Beyond all this the story line is full of conspiracies, mystery and suspense. Definitely worth a try if your considering. Like most ... don't start late at night like I did as I ended up watching 5 episodes the first night and the other 8 the next day.
Straw Dogs (2011)
Very much enjoyed, write your own review.
Was surprised to see the low score here as a really enjoyed this movie. Did not know it was a remake or any background so I went in with no expectations. Now I'll admit I've crushed on the two main actors for some time so that was enough for me to give it a watch. Glad I did.
Mute (2018)
A Weird and Crazy Ride
This was one of the weirdest movies I've ever seen, it's an exciting mysterious story and the main character being mute I think added a lot of suspense to this movie for me in a way. The performances are A+ and the 3 main actors really have committed to their characters and really brought them to life. I think I'm to the point I will watch just about anything the Alexander Skarsgard is in just to watch him and I'm glad I gave this one a shot. He is a wonderful to look and watch anyway, but amazing to see what he was able to get across to the audience without any words.
Bird Box (2018)
Amazing - reviews from haters kept me from watching for too long
I thought this film was amazing-all around. Acting, story, cinematography and pace were all on point. Even though this story is unfolded out of chronological order, I still found it to be quite gripping. It. May not be super original but the way of telling the story was. It builds to a proper climax and I feel it did have some resolution. Those saying it left too many things unknown were distracted or not fully tuned in. This film also takes a unique way to bring attention to mental health and suicide, not in a profound but more of an artistic representation of what could happen the longer these topics are hushed or swept under the rug. These things surface no matter how quiet they are kept and the longer these issues are ignored the worse our problems become. I would not call this a horror film, but I won't hate on anyone who does. Thriller/Suspense are definitely more accurate as my heart was racing several times. Beyond that I had sad tears and happy tears. Not many films can bring you all of those things in one. Definitely worth watching. If you are into putting yourself into the plight of the characters and experiencing it with them, this is a wild journey.
Now Apocalypse (2019)
Wonderful, entertaining, unique
Everything made by Gregg Araki is worth watching, at least once. Always great and likely something you have never seen before.
