The DCEU has had its ups and downs since its conception and a lot have lost faith in the direction of its universe. Blue Beetle is a breath of fresh air and could be a promising beginning for its new path. The story is simple but it is enhanced greatly by the performances of the cast. I never doubted the love this family has for one another. The action is fun and the humor feel less formulaic than others of the genre that I feel is both an effort of the writers and the cast themselves. Blue Beetle is one of the best superhero movies this year. If you've grown weary of the universe, this might reinvigorate your interest.

I don't think the pilot for the show was good. The only reason I watched past the first episode was because I was bored and didn't have anything else to watch, but I'm glad I did. Not only was the second episode stronger but I found myself laughing as each episode went on. It took a minute to find it's groove, but I find it enjoyable. While very different from the original, this show still manages to show it's heart as time goes on. I think if this show was made earlier it would've fit well on alongside shows like Awkward and Faking It. It's not without it's flaws but I wouldn't mind seeing more of it.
