The Orville: Deflectors (2019)
The "real" space shows....
....are starting to get angry. And, as my dear sainted mother used to say, "Eff you, you're not my kid."
This one didn't knock it out of the park, but it was still quite good. And I am, against my will, starting to like the new sec chief.
Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
I'll keep this short and sweet.
Cheesy as hell? Yes.
Watchable as hell? YES.
Gonna see if I can find it at an IMAX.
Travelers: Protocol Omega (2018)
Well.....
.....played. Well played indeed.
Can't remember the last series I enjoyed this much. I'll definitely be watching it again one day. Although I freely admit Mackenzie Porter brought a performance that couldn't have been matched by another, and I felt her to be the glue for the show. Just my two coppers.
The Orville: A Happy Refrain (2019)
Not a great episode
But after reading other reviews, maybe I'm just a little too jaded as an old man to have gotten everything I could have out of this episode.
I will say the ending was worth the wait.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Four Movements (2019)
SPOILERS
This review has SPOILERS
Gina leaves...and thank god. Her character, quirky and adorbs at some points, had LONG worn out her welcome. I've been cringing for the last year every time she opened her mouth.
Each character is a little over the top, as one would expect in a comedic cop show, but hers went WAAAAY over the top EVERY TIME. Her character ran out of things to do/be a long freakin' time ago...good riddance.
The Orville: All the World Is Birthday Cake (2019)
Unfortunately...
...the subtext was the star of this episode...and the exact people who need it either won't watch or it'll go warp speed over their heads.
SAD.
The Orville: Nothing Left on Earth Excepting Fishes (2019)
All right, I'm done
The Orville is NOT a comedy series...it's a legit spacefaring adventure series with comedic elements. The last song of this show? Are you kidding me?
No. Seth MacFarlane is a genius..."Hey, guys, I got this great idea for a comedy series, c'mon, it'll be fun"
Corporate: "Ok, sure...you're good at comedy."
Corporate: "HEY, what is this?? This seems more like an actual spaceship adventure action thingy series!"
Seth: "Gotcha"
Instant Family (2018)
Laughed, cried
You know the deal...the entire gamut of emotions. FAR better than I was expecting. If you can look at the pics during the end credits and not cry, please walk into a bank with a fake gun and rob it...you won't hurt anybody but you'll go to prison for at least 15 years (this country cares far more about money than it does kids), which is a good thing because you're obviously a sociopath.
The Orville: Home (2019)
ARGGHH
Why? Why why why why why why why why? Tiny female launching opponents through the air is FUN to watch. Was she not hot enough? MAN, I hope she comes back later in the season.
A Star Is Born (2018)
I'm late to the game here
No one will read my review...and I'm okay with that. As much as the focus has been on Gaga being able to not only sing but act, and act well (which she definitely does), I have to throw credit to a few others. Bradley Cooper--I knew he was gonna be good, I just didn't know how good. Sam Elliot had easily two of the most moving scenes in the movie. Whoever that blonde was in the drag bar...vivacious and the best looking guy I've ever seen in my life. Last but not least...Andrew Dice Clay can act? Am I in a parallel universe?
The Orville: Primal Urges (2019)
better and better
After season one, I had hopeful expectations for season two...they've been easily surpassed. I know Seth may have started off with a fun homage to spacebound shows of the past, but he is really hitting it out of the park.
Kudos, my friend, kudos...may this series last 20 years.
Peppermint (2018)
Not bad at all
Don't know why people hated on this movie so hard. It was exactly what it portrayed itself out to be. Straight up revenge.
I honestly don't know why this country doesn't have vigilantes on a massive scale as we slowly slide into authoritarianism.
A Discovery of Witches (2018)
Holy crap
Four episodes in and I have NO IDEA how I'm gonna wait for the fifth.
It Had to Be You (2015)
Short...but lovable
...kinda like Cristin Milioti herself.
I swear, this girl can do anything...this is probably the least I've liked her in a movie, and it was still pretty good. I gave the 8 to offset the haters.
She's the lead and fairly unlikeable...plays a weak and weak willed person. After a while, you want to tell her what to do with her life because it doesn't seem like she'll ever get there.
I paid 4 bucks to rent it, and I consider it money well spent.
Enough said?
